>>7228897Not anyone in the thread so far, but let me just say that Claremont was when XMen was most popular. That was 70s and 80s, and 90s. There were over a dozen artists through this time. Jim Lee didn't even do the open hair Cyclop, btw. He was following the style by Whilce Portcio.
You know why the skullcap Cyclops design has been used for so long and imitated? it's because that's what the writers, artists, sculptors, etc etc etc are used to. Jim Lee's XMen (singular title) Cyclops is blip on the radar, but it was at the highest point with OUTSIDE comic media portraying him that way.
But a high point isn't what the majority of fans saw, because millions of fans existed, before, after, and during that high point. You get more total numbers from just that high point, and even within that high point, you will have an overlap of older fans.
Jim Lee's 90s XMen design is basically just for a very specific group of nostalgiafags, who didn't even read teh comics.
