Far as I can tell they make exceptions for sets of predominantly one color. The Horizon Express was very orange, and had a green separator.

The 2019 police air sets are mostly planes and the planes/jets are based on military ones but more police colored and well childish. We get a F22 police plane. A lot of sets look likethey are took out of TopGun. Trump's Space Force sets when? Lego?

Get a mechanical pencil that you can change the eraser on and use that as the gripping tool. I recommend these for the erasers themselves. This pack can be purchased at any Office Depot-type stationary/office store. You want the type of eraser that crumbles, not the vinyl erasers that have concentric rings visible on the tops.

Get some scotch tape and touch the sticky part with your hands to get rid of most of the adhesive. A lot of times the printing on a head is so weak that putting a piece of tape over it and pulling it off takes some of the printing with it, so you want the tape to be just sticky enough to hold still if you accidentally bump it with the eraser.

Before you start putting down tape, plan out the sequence that you're going to apply it. If you're just removing one small detail you probably only need to put down one piece of tape and remove it immediately after taking care of that detail. In another situation, you might have to apply, remove, and re-apply tape all around an area (like I had to do removing the mask without touching the eyes or mouth). By planning out exactly how you're going to remove it step by step, you can avoid pulling the tape off of the printing more than you absolutely need to.

Then you basically just rub the eraser against the exposed printing to erase it. Sometimes it comes off right away, sometimes it takes a few minutes. If it's really tough you might have to use Brasso (metal polish) and a cotton swab, but for most jobs an eraser works just fine.

you don't necessarily 'need' one, but it's oh so convenient for very plate-on-plate heavy builds. Or getting that one kinda flush, stuck part out without risking collapsing your moc because you squeeze it too hard.
But most of all it'll save your nails and fingers a lot of suffering. It also prevents damage from trying to peel off parts with a thin hard object denting the edge of pieces that might make give it a little burr that sticks outside of system you have to file off.

I concur, also because the criminal element is getting a little out of hand. Jewels, gold bars, priceless art from museums, high end sports cars, all the money trucks, ATMs, the list goes on and on. I mean the crooks can afford bulldozers, hot air balloons, several hideouts, cars and bikes, seem to be able to spring their cronies at will. Yeah the scum are well financed. In my canon the separate police forces are just different precincts of the same crime overrun city. But I have pimps and prostitutes and drug dealers and thugs and motorcycle gangs running around. Jets might be handy.

I question the point of using ball joints for the legs given that using two of them means they only get one axis of movement. There was probably some way to do it that actually matched the color scheme.

Would've also been an opportunity to finally recolor those parts, but I guess Lego is clutching to their gray parts forever.

To be honest, I really haven't been into Lego for years. The most I did was buy a few Star Wars sets here and there, mostly from the clone war era. I suddenly decided I wanted a Lego steam locomotive, and upon seeing the new Hogwarts Express I purchased 2 and decided to make one.

Building this train has reminded me just how fun Lego is. While I enjoyed building official sets, simply playing with all the different possibilities these past few weeks was the most fun I have had in a long time. I tried 6 stud wide boilers, 8 stud wide trains, all different configurations of wheels. I know it is a cliched saying, but I felt like a kid again.

Now I'm waiting for my first bricklink order to arrive to finish it up.

I'm not a trainfag but you did a nice job imo. There's some electric train piece that comes in a current Harry Potter set that trainfags are buying direct from Lego at the moment because until now it was super rare and super expensive (and still is everywhere outside of ordering direct). Maybe someone else can tell you what it is.

The Reinhardt figure is only a "bonus" in the set since it "pilots" the oversized Reinhardt armor build. It's a lot more of an afterthought than D'Va, since D'va actually runs around outside of her MEKA.

Yeah the biggest issue you have is putting yellow over black. Yellow is a very "translucent" color when put over a dark background, so in general it requires you to first put another layer of brighter color between it and the black. Which is obviously not feasible.

Flesh tone is a lot easier to paint over black since it's a lot more opaque.

Gee, I don't know. How did they expect anyone play with sets like pic related, or most early Lego themes in general? Not everything needs to be a war, dude - even the old Castle and Pirate themes had plenty of sets with characters just doing their own thing, no conflict required.

Regardless, here's another set. No conflict here whatsoever - the dragon is the Bat Lord's mount (as seen in a polybag released around the same time) and the skeleton is a minion, as are the witch and all of the included knights. Still a fun set, especially when used in conjunction with other sets - which is more or less the point; you're supposed to be creative enough to create your own adventures, not rely on the set to spoonfeed one to you.

That's what you get when you try to adapt overly intricate designs onto a rather simple template.
It might work for all those spandex-wearing superheroes or bathrobe wearing space knights but once you go into crazy, exaggerated and/or overly cartoony territory you pretty much set yourself up for trouble.

The modern set is a massive boat with what seems like a single angled 6x6 plate with a treasure chest and one seaweed on it.
The old set was a small boat and a vast seabed scenery with a whale skeleton and caves you could explore.

I understand i'm beating a dead horse but old sets were just nicer, they actually gave you a world to explore rather than just another generic boat.

I get that the new set costs less, but they could have halved the size of the boat and thrown in a 16x16 tan plate with a couple of BURPs and seaweed pieces.
This market research focus group vehicleshit is just cynical and makes me lose respect for TLG.

I hated small scenery bits desu. The vehicle or building can act as an easily storable container for all the minifigs and equipment. An additional piece of scenery which often comes with stuff that easily breaks off (plants, flower) or is just not fixed to it (loose coins, crystals, objects) is a hassle to store. It always flies around. If it's on a large baseplate it's sometimes worse since it's flinsy as fuck as there's no huge building on it that stabilises everything.

Looking through Brickset, this is actually the first fire plane we've gotten from City. There's been helicopters before, but no planes.
As for civilian cars, garages, taxis and towtrucks, they all seem to be put into bigger sets like train stations and entire city dioramas.
I'd also love to see a construction wave based around road works and maintenance, it's been a while.

Yeah, what i mentioned was sold in late 90's, but that was with the worst car design, the one with elevated vehicle base that had wheel holders. It could have a reboot. Mainly the roadcars.

But with all the fire and police and transport sets, there's very few civilian and other service vehicles, bar the big ones like city center or the creator houses. I wish they'd go that direction.

My amazing girlfriend gifted me with a Lego Ghostbusters set.
Assembling the Eco-1 was a blast, but the set is missing something.
A ghost!

I have a lot of old Lego in my house, from the 80-90s, but no ghost or skeleton minifigures.
So I checked the cartoon (one of my favorite shows) and I built the only creature I had enough pieces to do, the Boogeyman.

The hair is different, I know, but I have not enough blue pieces. if you have any suggestions, please post them.

It's just photoshop.
I put a top-to-bottom black-to-white gradient ramp in the background, then added a bit of fractal noise on top of it to make it less regular.
Last step, add a gradient map on top with (top to bottom) red, yellow, white, orange, green. adjust how wide each color band is to make the fine white horizon line and smoother top and bottom.
The model is rendered in Stud.io with a transparent background.

If you look closely, you can see the torso curve printing follows the standard curve pattern. It's just that the dark blue and black look similar so it makes it look like the torso curve is the pink part.

Thanks, here's a better picture. If you place the car doors like I do, it makes the figs sit higher than some people like, but it works well for me. Also these are just bench seats but you can see that where it places the minifig butt gives enough arm clearance for both driver and passenger. The reason I make the figs sit so high is a compromise between keeping the vehicle six-wide and letting the minifig sit with arms resting at a low angle.

I was comparing the new bricks with the older ones, and it seems that they're pretty much the same as of the 95 ones.

It's good to know that LEGO didn't really change the molds.

But there were people complaining about the new colors not matching... is that still a thing?

Apparently LEGO started to buy uncolored pellets and were coloring them at their factory... the slightly mismatched colors were going to the smaller sets...

I think it was around 97-98 that they started with the different faces... I remember that Paradisa and Ice Planet had some faces with mustaches, hair... and stuff like this.

But the main features were always the same, they were always smiling. The girls face from paradisa had eyelids though.

After the licensed stuff they went crazy with the faces.

In fact, there's a certain (in)famous German Lego-Youtuber who recently built the 350€ Bespin set (and tore that piece of shit a new one) and noticed that the tan plates and wedges were completely different hues.

While sets back then had their fair share of stickers, too, it was mostly for parts that haven't been printed before or where the sticker also added some special effect like the hologram monitor in Exploriens sets, the temperature sensitive one from UFO or the magnetic one from Insectoids.
Ever since Exo Force came around, though, the sets get absolutely plastered with stickers.

unfortunately as you can see there's a bit of a normal map error on the black 1x2 angled macaroni bricks (87620) which makes them look smooth.
I begrudgingly decided to move from LDD to Stud.io because stud.io has all the new parts and the integrated render engine. Still, sometimes it's really frustrating when it refuses to connect pieces, and the group functionality is not nearly as good as LDD's.

The problem is that their focus shifted too much away from small 3-5$ sets to medium sized 20-50$ ones and large premium sets with piece and price numbers that were unheard of before.
This was the largest set in 1994 with over 1300 pieces and a price of 130$ which isn't even the upper class these days.

yeah you might be right about that actually, there's very little 'impulse' buy sets or small sets left
lego also seems to be churning out loads of modular size sets (and bigger in some cases), it's hard to keep up

Only thing I came up with is moving the inverted slopes one line forward and putting 3676 or picrelated 41764 to finish it, but then I'd have an extra line unable to fill. Autismo is suffering.

A sailing ship's hull, i have the basic 16 wide boat base but need to extend it by one or two studs, that's why I want to add the inverted slopes.
Pic related has it, two by two inverted slopes white, but ends it with that inverted wedge, but I have a ship's stern assembly 2559 so I can't end it like that.

That one's neat and when you reversesearch it, you'll get a moc video. That guy makes it like a real lego set, all neat and tidy, even too many bricks. I estimate at around 350€.

I'm so far around 100€ in and I got most if not all necessities, hull, masts and cannons and figs included, but am missing the slope design, cue my questions above. I'm not probably gonna make it tip top like his, but I'll save at least half of his budget.
My philosophy is to make a decent medium sized ship comparable to the new imperial flagship, but with half the cost.

I think I've read that Lego does consider original space stuff to compete with their Star Wars and Lego probably treats Ninjago like that their original sci-fi theme
I'm just saying that it is definitely possible for Space sets to exist with Star Wars sets

Building ships is not as expensinve as it looks, if you're not going for a 64-gun ship of the line. You just need a good design and an idea. I got the idea, working on the design now.

I'm using the old ones instead of new ones too, unfortunately I got the red colored ones from Red Beard Runner ship. BL shop near me had them so I figured why not. They are almost the same, old ones have brick slots to connect them, new ones have technic pin holes. So it depends on availability, most are rare/expensive.
But considering that the average price for the hull pieces is around 2 to 5 euros means that you could get a lot standard or sloped bricks for that price and build your own hulls. I figured that late. But at least the hulls provide great stability for the whole build and technic holes for stable masts.

If you're a misb collector i agree the old sets were more appealing because of their stellar boxart. They lost that charm those had.
Conflict wise there are still a whole bunch. But I agree the overall happyfaces (despite there being heavily 'implied' conflict in the 90's too) design throughout all products had a chill vibe.

But still, lego is all about modularity and using the parts to do your own thing. But now with the choice to use a much larger roster of parts to do whatever you please and the freedom to not use whatever parts you don't care for just as much as back in the day. (I always left out the exploriens logo in builds as I wanted my own more original more generic space faction)

Your second sentence is borderline retarded. Only you project your pololitics into these pieces on themselves and are actively undermining the breadth of creative posibilities if you want to go back to regular normal hairstyles and colours (of which there are now dozens more styles and colours compared to back in the day)

Nah, She's about the same size as Soldier. If anything, Reinhardt should have a different torso, similar to what Lego used for that Nexo Knights figure.
The big build is nice for display but badly scaled to the rest of the minifigs.
