WFC Optimus is a pretty fun toy, and he's one of those figures that have certain steps that MUST be done at a certain point before finishing the transformation, or you'll have to go back and do it right.

Orion's pretty cool, but you'll know about it if you have TR Kup mold.

Well, Kup has a pretty cool transformation. Basically, the legs unravel below the knees, and wrap around the vehicle. The old Orion mold did that too, but that one was cheap since it didn't form anything for the robot mode, it went around the legs that were already there.

The only downside to the new version is that it doesn't have hand swivels, and ankle articulation, but makes up for it by having an ab crunch as a side effect of the transformation.

If you don't own either, and can get them for about 30 or below, I'd say go for it.

I really wish 3A did 10-12'' stuff and not 18'' figures. Their releases are beautiful, but too fucking big to collect. Plus witht he size comes the pricetag. I bought TLK evasion Optimus because of my rustbucket fetish, and its amazing, but I don't care enough about movie stuff to devote the time and space.

Will be really tempted if Blitzscream gets a 3A, though.

Yep, I can even transform him back and forth with no issues. GPS is still a factor since he's got a hairline fracture on the left hand, but overall he'll last a few more years if I ain't hamhanded.

That ain't gonna go it. GPS isn't just surface-level, it's every bit of the gold plastic, even on the inside. You've stiffened the outside -- now it's just going to crumble away internally until the support of it buckles in and takes the outer layers with it.

The smart thing for Hasbro to do would be reissues of every major toy with GPS. Scorpinok, Randy, Electro, Protoform Starscream, etc.

So I just took a look at my MP Soundwave and noticed that one of the leg panels has a crack in it.

Could I put a bit of epoxy in the crack to sort of "bridge" the two sides and keep it together? Plastic cement won't work since there's a bit of a gap and the joint is so tight that it pulls the plastic apart.

I would say pull the cracked bit apart ever-so-slightly and apply plastic-weld before pushing it back together and holding it for a few minutes. Hopefully the cracked section won't pull apart anymore.

Doesn't work. The pressure the joint already has on it is already creating a gap, and as soon as I release any pressure I put on it to hold the gap closed it just opens again.

The only other thing I could possibly do is try to knock out the pins, plastic weld it, then repin it, but in my experience removing pins is a crapshoot likely to cause just as much damage as what you're trying to fix.

Hm, I see now, and yeah that seems to be the best solution. I also have no experience knocking out pins though so I'm as wary as you here.

He fell off my top shelf onto my desk, I have no idea where the foot flew off to I looked. Pretty sure he's reparable though, the break is on the white post supporting the foot itself, a clean break down the middle so it shouldn't be a problem once I track down the piece.

Hasbro basically wanted nostalgia bucks with Starscream but couldn't have Starscream on Earth just yet nor did they want to spend alot of money, so they just made Blitzwing Starscream's bother or something.

I think we'll see this Optimus before the BB movie is released to help goose last minute ticket sales. It's tracking for 3rd it's opening weekend against Mary Poppins and Aquaman, so every little bit helps.

It'll make its $70 million budget back easily enough to justify a seventh movie, but we might get another smaller budget movie if it doesn't open at least in 2nd. Travis has a story in mind that could go lower budget like BB. I sense that he'd prefer a smaller second movie and then build to a slam bang finale, where we see BB, OP and a third movie as a thematic trilogy, a three act story almost, fully establishing the reboot and righting the movie ship.

You all remember this hyper detailed G1 Optimus statue that came out awhile back? The one that looked like it would be perfect for the big screen? I hope you all remember that this statue is an officially licensed Hasbro product. John and the design team has clearly seen that statue. Travis has seen that statue. Some people have this statue in their office. The new movie Optimus is most definitely inspired by that statue. It's a design that everyone had in mind for this movie from the start. It was even used at the pitch meeting for investors to assure them that this was going to be a very different experience than the Bay movies.

I have owned the WFC Prime in the past and it's one of the best more complex dx primes you can get. He has ports everywhere and can possibly take advantage of the Siege Weapons/add-ons.

2007 Optimus and Bone crusher, Jetfire and hobo Megatron has taken 4 spots.

That leaves 4 voyagers and 1 leader. We could presume that they are taken up by the constructicons but we also know that a chinese source said their release will continue into 2020, so maybe one or two 2019 voyager slots for BB Optimus and BB Blitzwing?

I don't buy things with no ankle tilts, but I will see if Dropkick and Shatter are part of the BB Cybertronian G1 continuity since they seem to have appeared next to Shockwave.

They still have plenty of movieverse stuff to go through for years. DOTM, AOE and TLK. BB will still have the Cybertronian characters to go through.

DOTM has Shockwave and Sentinel, AOE has Galvatron, and then revised main casts for TLK.

All the while, they could do repaints like Grindor or random KSI clones.

At the same time, Toyworld is doing the World War II era stuff from TLK.

It was good that Bayverse experimented with the live action compatible alien look and that took in a new fanbase. But now since some innovations have exhausted, it is back to G1 traditionalism + some new elements.

It is still easy to create and accept innovation 20 years in, but at the 30-35 year mark, it is time to go back because all the middle works have lost significance and people realise that the franchise will always be defined by its initial image.

So this is why we have WFC: Siege and BB Cybertronians and VW Bee.

Studio Series is not ending anytime soon. This is Black Series for Transformers movies. They will eventually get to everyone in the Bayverse, but they're still making movies so there's always going to be someone new to release.

Sizes are due to expensive. More plastic parts are needed for more complex transformations. Need to keep prices in line with SW Black Series and Marvel Legends. These are meant for adults.

The market has changed. Little boys don't want action figures right now. That's who BotBots are for. Tested thru the roof. If BotBots Series 1 does well, expect it to eventually replace the kid's mainline. No one will miss Cyberverse toys. Entry level toys from entry level designers. Inside joke. The Cyberverse show is solid, but the same people will make BotBots show. They made Gumball too, so it's in good hands.

Clusterf*s like SS01 Bumblebee are unacceptable. Factory shit the bed. Hasbro is ultimately responsible and the mold is fixed for Clunker.

Overall the Bay movies gave us some of the best Decepticons. The G1 Decepticon line up was pretty lame. I’d rather have Barricade, Bonecrusher, blackout, Rampage, The dreads, and so cute n than most of the boring G1 cons.

Favorite G1 characters: Optimus Prime, Shockwave, Soundwave, Bumblebee.
Went for the G1 aesthetics – metallic giants with real personalities. “There’s something so magical about the simplicity of those designs.”
Though Dropkick and Shatter are new characters, they are “woven from the same fabric” as G1.
Shatter’s look is inspired by G1 Nightbird (minus the nunchucks).
Dropkick’s look is inspired by G1 Megatron.
The director considers G1 Megatron’s design as one of the greatest designs of Transformers history.

#2. Assembling The Cast

Bumblebee tries to figure out the world by copying Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld). Sometimes it doesn’t go too well.
Hailee was so expressive, that some dialog were omitted from the script due to the fact that her facial expressions were more than enough.
Charlie Watson introduces Bumblebee to the music by The Smiths, but he doesn’t like the band or Morrissey.
Dropkick is unusual with a quirky sense of humor.
#3. Choosing The Setting

No globe-trotting. The story happens in the confines of the beautiful Northern California.
Scenes set in Redwood Forest near Santa Cruz evokes intimacy and connection.
Look out for a homage to ‘Big Trouble In Little China’ movie.
#4 Shooting The Action

Director always wanted to do explosions, but he wanted it to be in moderation. He’s not a ‘firebug’. Don’t expect Bayhem from this movie.
Bumblebee [movie] is a gentle affair with lots of car-based carnage.
Robots will carry spaceage weaponry while the humans will carry regular weapons.

Approached the robot sequences as if they are animated scenes.
Completely storyboarded all robot scenes. Used animatics whenever a robot scene is involved.
There are many more robots which the audience didn’t see [from the trailers].
Full-on battle sequence set in Cybertron is included in the movie.
Wanted to make all robots look and feel real. Travis directly involved with the process.
#6 Remodeling Bumblebee

The Volkswagen Beetle has round shapes. It’s approachable and non-threatening.
In this movie, Bumblebee [the character] is a mech-out-of-water. He’s trying to figure out the ins and outs of the human life.
Bumblebee gets on well with Charlie’s dog Conan. He’s trying to figure out how to communicate with him.

Visuals go a long way. I’d rather have toys of any of those guys than boring G1 cons. Hell I’d rather have a Xenomorph, too. G1 blitzwing, motormaster, apeface, etc, all have dull, blocky robot modes that don’t look distinct at all. They’re boring designs.

I disagree, sure xenomorph are good, but bayformers has so much design overkill that pretty much everything is a xenomorph.
The example you gave however, let's take motormaster, his look is distinct because you can tell where all is bits go when he is a vehicle, and his trademark head in a box.
If he were a bayformers character, the only visual cue that you would get that his feet become the cab of the truck, would be maybe a pair of windshields.

My only issue witg the G1 designs is that it doesn't feel feasible that they can move like an action series requires them to, hence why they were made of putty in the G1 cartoon.
As blocky and clumsy as they are, though, the G1 designs have more personality and are much more recognizable than anything from the movies and that is what you need to keep a brand alive.
Bayformers might have been profitable but a bunch of bad movies put that into question; G1 was bad from beginning to end and it has remained a staple of popular culture for more than 30 years.

Meanwhile, G1 sells toys and every licensed merchandise possible (except for comics, but they just don't sell at all now) like it was still 1984. Classic and comfortable is what's popular now. That sense of the familiar, when times were simpler. It's the same thing that happened in popular culture in the mid to late 1970s. A decade of turmoil made people look back to the relatively simple days of the 1940s and 1950s with a wistful longing for that. Happy Days was a huge show on TV. Star Wars (back when it was just Star Wars, not Episode 4) was a love letter to the escapism of the 1940s serials and comic strips. Doesn't matter if it holds up to heavy thinking. It made people happy again. That's all people want now. So... G1 is back. Hasbro's not turning down money after losing their pants to Star Wars last year.

It'll pass and we'll get another darker style cycle in the brand when people want something new. Then today's kids will be begging for Rescue Bots and BotBots Generations toys. LOL

Bay has a producer credit in his contract for several movies that he's not actually involved with. They don't have to pay as much at the start, which keeps the budget lower, but the producer credit gives them a % of the back end profits. This contract last thru several movies, even if he never has anything to do with them, or even watches them. It's a common thing in Hollywood.

Jack Nicholson had a merchandise clause in his Batman 1989 contract. He got paid for the sequels as well as the first one. It wasn't a huge %, but even 0.5% is still a sizable check by normal people standards.

Sometimes it bites people in the ass. Stan Lee was owed a huge producer check from the early Marvel movies, but they just doctored the books to show that they hadn't made any profits, so they didn't owe him a dime. He had to sue Marvel to get paid.

Brass doesn't care if some info gets leaked. Even story details are usually overlooked. Few believe leaks. If anything it gauges interest. That's been going down since DiTillio and Forward were regulars on the old AOL message boards. We dodged Rodimus Primal on the BW show that way.

Seibertron posted one of both Prime and Megatron. Then shot most of the transformation just off camera because he was on such a hurry for a scoop that he couldn't be bothered with keeping the toys in view. Turned it off halfway thru Megatron and watched Baltmatrix. It was that bad.

Well when you fucking require 20 different pieces to complete their grand combination, a lot of people would just say fuck to collecting all of them and some of their gimmicks are very lame. The past few series have also been very boring. It kinda started since Toqger. Kyoryuger was one of their biggest thing because it was both good and the toys even if you had to collect like 15 of them were actually enjoyable to collect. Even if the problem with the whole set of toys is that all of them are on a clip system that tend to break due to how heavy the pieces were and the plastic that were used for them were made of this brittle plastic. My Gabutera has only 1 clip remaining that isn't broken, they all broke from normal transformation. My Bragigas has 1 broken clip and it broken when I was taking him apart so I could box him for storage so that also kinda sucked.

Painting the hands black makes such a big difference with this guy. It's like they designed something decent and then shit all over it. Like those wrist swivels are meant to be functional and they just decided to not have that flap flip around like it clearly should. I still like him especially with the G2 reprolabels but I'm glad I didn't pay full price for either.

I got him yesterday.
I have always been a wreckgar fanboy, and i find this one to be quite nice.
I have the RTS one, which is superior in every way, but this guy is nice. I like how retro robot he looks. Not just G1 robot, but straight up old school generic sci-fi robot. i dont know if its the face or the blocky body but he looks like he leapt right off of the retro G1 box art.
He is also a lot more playable than RTS Wreckgar. Easier to transform, and i dont have to worry about breaking him.

Thankfully Junkions are a race, so i can display them and justify it as army building.

Once searched my local stores for Novastar, didn't get any hits on Brickseek, went there for groceries anyway and found two of them.

The military scenes were so he can use the military vehicles; the US Military will work with filmmakers and cut them deals on using their vehicles in exchange for showing the armed forces in a positive light. I love the little things. It's the most truly creative thing to come from this brand since Kenner was given control over Boy's Toys in 1995 and came up with Beast Wars. They might have shit the bed with GI Joe Extreme and Vor-Tech, but damn they knocked Transformers outta the park.

Then Hasbro closed that office in 1997 and almost all of their design staff were let go. The Pawtucket office (the same lot that mishandled G2) took over the last year of the line and turned it into Beast Machines the next year. Yeah.

(For you history buffs, Archer was the guy that took over after that line collapsed. RID2K1 and Armada was his.)

Brawn mold is simple and transforms easy and the simplicity lends itself well to some decent posing. Really, most of the little sized dudes like him are good. Bumblebee's the only one who's really disappointed me so far because getting him into car mode can be a chore.

Siege is a cleaner-transforming mold with better articulation but it loses a lot of points for just being the G1 design and not an actual update like Classics was. The trash-tier weathering takes off some points too.

So yeah, Classics is still the best. If they ever get someone who can actually design a new robot mode around a modern truck and not just trace the Sunbow art then maybe it'll be surpassed one day. That may not happen while Warden's in charge, though.
