Lego space theme future

We have not had a lego space theme since 2013 galaxy squad, when is it coming back
I assume the five year gap(since last space theme) and counting since 2013 is so they can sell the star wars stuff from the new movies , I note there is another big gap around 2000-2005 when star wars stuff prequel and org was big. Not enough room in market for lego space and lego star wars someone was made a call ( i assume)

And you won't be getting one any time soon. You'll have to live with Star Wars and maybe another astronaut wave of City. If you haven't figured it out yet, Lego isn't doing original themes that aren't 'big bangs' anymore.

Big bang is Lego's own internal name for properties like Bionicle, Ninjago, Nexo Knights, etc that have big marketing pushes and tie in media.

Well, given the harsh reaction to Star Wars 8, if we are willing to make brash assumptions and presume that Star Wars 9 will be the least well received of the Star Wars sequels, Lego may similarly anticipate or react to such harm to the Star Wars brand by releasing a concurrent sci-fi themed series. Lego may not have the foresight to lower their expectations for market demand for a Star Wars 9 lineup at the release of Star Wars 9, but I imagine if it is unsuccessful that they will be quick to set up and release a new original sci-fi theme.

We can only hope, I suppose. I would love a sci-fi theme with an old-school mid-twentieth centuries aesthetic. Creative alien designs, old helmets, archaic rockets, etc. Something like pic related but with less sexual undertones obviously. Alternatively, a near-future sci-fi theme focusing on Moon or Mars colonies would be appreciated, but I don't think that it would appeal to younger audiences.

Well, from what I can tell the public generally disliked it, and in conversations with my father, who is my only relative or friend who is similarly interested in the series, he disliked it as well.

My comment was more focused on speculating the effect of the decline of the value of the Star Wars brand on the market, not the inherent value of the Star Wars brand per se.

There've really been only four, maybe five if you include 7's tepid reception, star wars movies that were well received. Star Wars survived the holiday special, droids, ewoks; it survived "JAR JAR BINKS" being last decade's orange man; it even manged to survive despite the fact that its first new marketing push had so much bombing in its product overreach that it managed to kill certain segments of the market (namely toy accessory packs) stone fucking dead. It's declined to the #3 cinematic merchandising brand, but that's #3 behind Marvel, owned by the same company. Their merchandising arm is worrying more about Fortnite and Minecraft than their own underperformance.

I didn't say that I believed that the Star Wars brand would die, just that the current over-saturation of the market with the Star Wars brand has prevented Lego from releasing a concurrent sci-fi theme.

Even if the decline I am speculating only results in a 10-20% decline in the profits in Lego's Star Wars line, that might be enough to justify making a new sci-fi theme given the market's signalling for a new theme.
