He was on Earth before the '80s. The movie just takes place in the '80s. Bumblebee is purposefully not specifically stated to be a direct prequel because they want to draw in the angry geewunners that hate the bayverse, and it's not stated to explicitly be a reboot because they don't want to piss off the pre-installed Bayfag fanbase. They're trying to get both audiences in the seats.

The side holes aren't a big deal, especially if you flip those back guns down to cover it up a bit. He's a good toy, and easy to mess around with. Blackout has good aesthetic and presence, but he's not very poseable. Even though he's a leader class, he ends up about the same height as Megatron, with only the helicopter parts giving him extra height.

Wow that's a pretty cool looking KO what mold is it based off of?

I'm debating if I want to fix up the paint on the one I'm getting. I'm super stoked I finally got one at a more reasonable price. I'll definitely take pics when he arrives.

If you want to remove the pin in the chest I suggest heating it up with a soldering iron. Use a nail or something between the pin and the soldering iron as a conductor. That way you dont melt the plastic. The heated pin will slide in and out easy peasy.

Finally got my hands on some POTP Rodimus weapons, gave them to a second LG Hot Rod I got for cheap, so now I have:

-2 Firebolts
-1 Haywire
-All the main Autobot Targetmasters
-1 Recoil

That I'll be passing around to other figures. Guess if they don't give anything to Stepper, I can give him Haywire or Firebolt.

Depends. If you just want a reasonably big gun, look up the one you like and get it. If you have some passing love for Masterforce, you could get the 6 that show up in that show for nostalgia's sake.

Objectively, they're awful. Their only aritculation is on the shoulders and extremely limited at that.

The tiny block figures on the inside would only interest you if you care about the Prime armor thing, or want some Titans Return figures to have symbol heads.

The Titan Master packs were much better.

Bludgeon I think is the most worthwhile one, but with Skullgrin and whats-his-face-the-bat-one in second place because they turn into matching claws. I don't know, I'm a sucker for tiny dumb robots and them turning into weapons is a fun plus, no matter how silly they are. I bought all of them and don't regret it, but like I said I'm biased and recognize that they're not great.

At least those are his main team. We might have gotten Stranglehold at some other point, but with having all new pretenders look like animals or robots, he was fucked since he looks like a regular man with He-Man clothing.

I still unironically like this figure. But maybe I'm just blinded by all that sweet silver paint.

Since Siege Megatron really doesn't thrill me, maybe this weekend I'll finally get around to his planned surgery to give his legs more articulation, which is my only real problem with him. Odd shoulders be damned.

I'm not even sure how I would want Stranglehold to be. Probably robo-rhino into a robot, but that has his bandolier and shoulder armor, with a kind of robotic mustachioed face, like Wreckgar. So basically the same treatment as RotF Bludgeon like that one anon said.

I liked the idea of somehow using the Silas Breakdown mold for it. No idea what to do about Octopunch, though.
The hovercraft was kind of amphibious so it might work as a substitute of the crab altmode but there are no pincers.

Semi-related, I found this while looking for that zoids crab and now it's my favorite thing. This is 100% what I would pilot in the zoids world and now I must create a custom transformer that turns into a hermit crab. It's just too silly; it's perfect.

Just googling around, a surprisingly decent idea if you're a dab hand at paint would be starting with Rhinox. He's got the robot rhino alt mode and muscley bot mode to go with it. That's a cheap figure to pick up, so maybe i'll give it a shot.

Pick warlords and those loyal to them. I have a small collection of potential usurpers including Ratbat (universe) Straxus, Bludgeon, Shockwave,Overlord, Thundertron, etc. In the absence of Megatron the con factions would shake out to who's strongest and has the most cannon-fodder to throw at one another.

I've thought before that it would be fun to have Soundwave take over by leading an army of every Decepticon minicon. Just swarming over the battle field with his horde of tiny soldiers. Climbing in and out of the big guys, tearing them apart from the inside or just toppling them with sheer numbers.

Thunderclash is even more unlikely imo. TPTB at Hasbro including Warden are at least cognizant of the Japanese exclusive characters like Metalhawk, Ginrai, Star Saber, Liokaiser and Deathsaurus (given the boxsets and POTP poll). But they don't seem to be aware at all of the Euro late G1 guys.

Huge deal when Furman was using him, but after he left, his last appearance was in Spotlight Metroplex, essentially given a role that he liked more than being a walking atom bomb... despite still doing that since he worked alone. Anyway, during Megatron's all out attack on all Autobot outposts his assignemnt had him destroying one on his own, and fighting off the suriviors, the Throttleboths. They do well, but a few get taken out. Before he kills them all, Metroplex stomps him with his fist, then leaves them all there. Sixshot is implied to still be alive.

Now get ready for the infuriating part. Despite the spotlight ending hinting they all survived, Freeway and Wideload eventually died due to injuries, then the remainig four somehow got into ANOTHER confrontation with Sixshot during their escape from the planet and killed him. This all happened off panel.

Then the same issue kills Chase.

As you can imagine, everyone was pissed.

Now Siege has improved the plastics but still many hollow bits but have dropped the ball joints which efficiently improved articulation for the Combiner Wars era.

Well, yes and no. Classics had equally or cheaper labor, but the TF brand was riding Baywagon at the time. So those two things together resulted in more budget.

Unicron trilogy probably had the best plastic.

G1 had plastic and could afford diecast. G2/Late-Euro probably had the best plastics. Beast Wars would be okay except that plastic technology still had some flaws. Such as GPS.

By the time we reach Unicron Trilogy and up to early RotF, GPS had been solved and oil prices were low enough that skimping wasn't quite as necessary. But the oil crisis hit around the time of RotF so those that came about a year after that, had to start cost saving measures.

-that latch thing for his head that has no fix, if it's loose on my copy or becomes so, I'll scream
-what if the battle-damage paint is on the actual detail paint, or any painted pieces otherwise - the battle damage supposedly varies per figure
-no wrist swivel, but has a waist swivel

What are your thoughts, /toy/? Cautious to blindly trust advice from one side or another - TR Hot Rod, Kup, and PotP Grimlock which are among my favorutes were heavily condemned by a large number of people here when the photos were released. But I also got neat figures like Gnaw and a bunch of titan masters.

Anyone actually have him on hand yet?

Blackout looks great in both modes and doesn't have any real hollowness. Not super poseable like the other anon said but you can do alright with him. Moreover, I think the idea of appreciating different approaches to characters in design and aesthetic is the healthier approach. You don't HAVE to own every single Prime, but having, say, POTP leader, classics, and Siege doesn't seem odd to me as they all do different things with the design space and have differences in both robot and alt mode.

There are also the guys who armybuild, buying a bunch of cheap generic figures to serve as disposable grunts. I did this with all of the Legends insecticons, buying at least 3 copies of each because I wanted a robot bug army.

Frankly the idea that you can have one and ONLY ONE toy of a given character seems really limiting and overly restrictive.

Looking at pics, the chest in some pictures have black knicks, the legs have black bleeding through the red paint, the entire sides of the car and roof seem to be very dark clear plastic.

The only red bit I can't be too sure off is the shoulders.

-Sixgun: MetroShot

It apparently had a handles issue corrected with Junkheap and every version after but the mold seems to suffer other problems that were never corrected, among them:

-Helmet horns on Wreck-Gar are very prone to breaking
-Hands are very delicate and can break easily, just having it hold the weapon is enough to break it.

A shame since I kinda wanted it as well, and that all sounds terrifying.

While I'm not totally convinced about the red painted bits being black plastic, a few areas have scratches that have black bits showing, and the pins all have black circle surrounding the holes (not always a perfect indicator, but it's normally a good way to know the actual color without chipping the paint).

But yes, I was hoping they would create actual, real Pretenders for PotP. Mega Pretenders, where the shell also transforms and maybe combines with the inner robot.

Or make it a tier thing - heck, you could even do "Inspired by the decoy suits of the Prime Masters, the Autobots and Decepticons create advanced exo-skeletons designed to enhance and optimize their innate abilities".

(Am I the only one who headcanons that while the Titan Masters and Prime Masters can't use their abilities themselves, but only bestow them on a partner, they do get access to them through those little vehicles and decoy suits? And the weapons modes are weaponized versions of the individuals' power... Vector Prime's cannon mode ages an opponent, Prima's hypothetical gun mode would cause a villain to see the error of his ways, that sort of thing?)

Deluxes with non-transforming but articulated Voyager-sized shells; compact vehicle modes that fit snugly inside the torso, so the limbs and head are free. And the Leader class with aformentioned articulated shell, to elevate a humble Voyager to an oversized Leader class. Great Christmas toys.

Fuuuuck. They could even have done the 'Orion Pax becomes Optimus Prime' thing by fitting one inside the other, which shouldn't be a problem if we're talking about a truck and a trailer + truck. And his counterpart is Thunderwing.
