You know how when a movie, TV show or video game shows a kid playing with action figures and the kid has them fighting, he just kind of slams one action figure into the other? Clip related. Did you play with your toys like that? I know I didn't. I actually tried to make it look like they were punching each other, fist on face.

sort of knew which toys were slammable and which ones weren't. like if i got a tonka truck or those old WWF figures there was no issue slamming thr shit outta those things or causing damage because they were so durable. didn't even think about doing it with normal action figures.

I don't remember slamming them into each other and I'd be very surprised if I did. I didn't have too many action figures anyway, 90% of the stuff I had was lego and I used to build my own vehicles and bases and station them around my room. I even had little deco crystals I used to indicate rivers. Then I mostly played out long storylines with exploration and betrayal, rarely actual fighting.
And even as a kid I was really concerned with keeping my stuff sorted and undamaged. I had all my sets and minifigs sorted by theme and I don't think I ever lost a toy in my life. Also I specifically remember being really upset when a friend of mine popped out Mace Windu's hand to simulate it being cut off. So just slamming toys into each other and potentially damaging them was a no-go for me

I did not. I had an on going story with my toys that would progress with each play session. Kind of like a drama with my own canon.

IF they fought it was more done in my imagination. I'd move them around and whatnot, but under no circumstances would I slam them together.

I remember one time when I was a kid a friend came over and he saw all the toys I had and I invited him to play and without warning or hesitation, he picked one up and started slamming him into the one I had in my hand and went "PSSH! POOSH! KSH!" and I just looked on in terror and nervous laughed.

I thought something was wrong with him. It wasn't until much later in life did I notice media like movies and shows depicting kids playing with toys like that and I had this startling realization, that kids played like that and it was a normal thing. The idea still disgusts me.

I would always try to act act the fight or drama scenes I would imagine, articulating the figures to match what I was thinking. Some more intricate actions were separated by character as I needed both hands to make the figure pose and flip etc. The whole of the scene played out in my head though and contact of the figures together was never necessary.

Only when one had to punch or lunge towards another in a fight.
Though, thinking of it most of my playing was adventuring and talking, and only a select few needed to lunge so not much slamming.

God no! At most I'd pose one in an attacking pose and the hits would always be done in slow motion both for cool effect in my head movies and to keep my toys safe. Also used the pro wrestling/stunt style of fighting where strikes would glance past the recipient and they'd react as though hit.

This is interesting; I think these are the sorts of stories you're expected to play out with your toys, but I wasn't into dramatic TV or action cartoons or comics or anything like that as a kid, I mostly watched sitcoms. And in my play sessions the characters were always roommates sharing apartments and having The Real World style conflicts, whether they were dinosaurs or superheroes or whatever. Lots of sex too. This was all early 90s, though, reality tv wasn't any sort of influence on us yet.

Never ever ever, in fact those scenes always made me cringe. From my first toy on anything that raises the thought of damaging them breaks my heart.

My go-to playstyle was to make a structure of wooden building blocks with spaces that my transformers could just fit through in their vehicle modes and make a little story to go off it.

I don't actually remember how I played with my toys though. Is that weird? I remember loving toys, and owning a lot of them, but I don't remember what I did with them at all. Only that I never bashed them together. Did I have them fight? Did I create storylines? Or did I just sit there marveling at the object itself for what it was?

I’m actually 27 good looking own a car and have a girlfriend and still have figures I play out scenarios and fight with. It is my go to stress reliever. I never fuckin bashed my shit together. Mostly cause I was Intelligent to buy toys with enough articulation that I could manipulate them to fight how I wanted.only thing that sucks though now is is hard for me to buy toys that I can tell have good durability and articulation cause I’m an adult now and order my shit off the internet.
