Does anyone have the latest Y-Wing (75172) next to the latest X-Wing (75218)? I've recently bought the former and have been thinking about getting the latter next month but it might hurt my Star Wars boner if they X-Wing is as big as the Y-Wing, which is something the box size and pricing seems to imply.

I highly recommend the X-Wing. The only feature I didn't like was the peg on the bottom intended to auto-collapse the wings if you land the X-Wing, but thankfully you can just leave that part of the build out and everything still works perfectly.

I love it so much that I'm definitely going to buy a second so I can display both Luke & Biggs at the same time! Just waiting to see if there's any extra sweet deals this holiday season, hehe.

I've lost all the interest I had in Lego Star Wars (and other SW products) after TLJ.

I used to spend a lot of money in the theme, but this year the money went to Ninjago, Speed Champions, Creator, etc... The worst part is that this isn't a boicot or anything like that, it's just that I don't like SW anymore (I haven't even seen the original trilogy since TLJ).

I'm not interested in Cloud City, or the new X-Wing, the Hoth Medical Chamber or any other set that I know I would have bought, even without discounts.

This feeling sucks, I loved Star Wars. I want to take pictures of my Star Wars minifigs again. But in the other hand, I don't care about Star Wars anymore so I feel nothing.

I can understand that, I don't buy sequel trilogy sets myself. That's mostly in the interest of saving space/keeping the collection under control, but it's also because I just don't find the designs particularly compelling (admittedly I did buy the Resistance Transport, but come on, troop transports are always irresistibly awesome!).

For me, no matter what happens with the Star Wars universe overall, I'm always gonna love the Original Trilogy era. I just don't get tired of rebels v. Imperials and the universe around that conflict.

Also, I've been wanting to get an A-Wing but sort of prefer the cockpit and front shaping of the 2013 one (pic related), I presume it is on the same size of that Rogue One version?

I don't have the 2013 A-Wing, but just eye-balling the stud width/length compared to the Rogue One version, they do seem very similar in size. I think the Rogue One version is just a couple studs wider, and a little longer due to the extended engines.

I dig the shaping on the front of the 2013 too, but the overall shaping of the Rogue One still wins out for me, particularly the engines & tail fins!

There are some 'city square' sets that consist of a bunch of different builds. LIke a small structure lik a kiosk, a store, but also a bus or and a fountain and tram etc. Might give you a fun mix of things.
More the throw shit at the wall and see what sticks route.
Oh and the new fairytale book is hella neat. Fits the Disney fairytale bill, has the construction/engineering angle and also characterdriven/cute.

LEGO designer here. I work on both CITY and DUPLO train lines.

I recently designed this set. The plan was to make a raised train track for our CITY lines but after extensive market research we determined that there was no market for any raised track. At least not for CITY. So we just repackaged our existing track and released it again.

Is this the same market research that tells you not to release individual railcars or locomotives so people could compile their own trains like in normal model trains? Those do look good, you've definitely improved your build game. I liked the meme Nissan you made in ldd (I think that was you) but it's better seeing actual builds.

Obviously you have to build what you love, so if that's lmp, stick with it. I've fallen into the trap of building what others might like, that kills creativity.

Try striping as much as possible from underneath, you'll find more room than you thought. For me that's the most fun, seeing how much you can greeble into a x by x stud space.

Why have we never gotten an antiquital or classical Mediterranean themed Lego line?

It would be similar to the knight/castle themes of the past however Nordic fairytale creatures would be replaced by Greco-Roman mythological beasts.

Regarding the factions, Lego could very easily have them consist of Mediterranids (Greeks, Romans, Carthaginians) vs. monsters vs. Northern Barbarians (Gauls, Germanics, Britons, etc.) They wouldn't have to specifically be Greek or Germanic but you could have general designs inspired by the technology and clothing of the areas historically.

It would also give Lego an excuse to make sets of the Parthenon, Coliseum, or other Classical buildings which they have hitherto shied away from creating. I do know that it is possible to create these sets using minifigures from the Lego Minifigure series, but this is awfully expensive to do.

That's a shame. If by historical themes you are referring to mythology then I am surprised that Greco-Roman monsters such as centaurs, Ceberus, Medusa, or the (Nordic) Kraken weren't popular with children.

You can still technically build a lot of Classical sets through Harry Potter, the Lego Minifigure line, or rare lines like Lego Atlantis, but this is a more costly approach.

Does the "Woah" you've included imply sarcasm? It may not be clear but in the filename I added "(Not Poster's Creation).

The model is just a tortoise shield formation with the Lego Minifigure line Roman legionnaire. Roman soldiers in the front line hold their shields with RH forward, soldiers on flanks hold shield to the side with arm on the same side as their flank, and soldiers before front row all hold a shield up with spare hands.

In the real historical account the soldiers didn't have spare shields, so only the front row would hold their shields in front of them and all rows behind the front would hold their shields above their own heads and above the heads of the rank in front of them.

Are the older motors slower than the newer ones? I've recently purchased the newer motors for a christmas train moc for this upcoming holiday but they go too damn fast. Even when using the remote-control settings that allow for gradients of current to be released the lowest settings are too quick for a comfy old steam locomotive.

I'm also thinking of ways to create a pump operating in vertical motion which will be made to look like steam coming out of the train's exhaust.

for like commissions or something? the thing with Lego especially for me is that by default absolutely nobody really gives a fuck or takes in seriously anyway. No, minifig scale. There was a point when I took on the challenge to build a car that could fit 2 minifigs side by side. It was choice I made, but not something I cared about. It took awhile to accept failure. when I did, I realized minifigs, to me, are just a result of lego. I don't particularly like them, I like bricks, in the shape of cars, with stickers.

Depends on how you define "minifig scale". Some would argue to death that 4-wide vehicles are the true minifig scale, others prefer 6 studs or even wider.
For 6-wide cars there are a few techniques that I and at least one other poster here like to use often.

Granted I'm no master builder anyway but with minifigs involved I'm of the opinion that there's no point getting too hung up over realism/scale (non-minifig/"replica" models are a different matter of course). I'd probably say 6 studs is fine, more than that is perhaps a little excessive.

Parting it out seems cheaper, but usually ends up being just as expensive as buying the set complete and used on bricklink, because by the time you pay for all the separate shipping costs, plus all the other parts you buy "just because" either to fill the minimum purchase requirement or because of impulse, and the extra time spent shopping... if you're sweating over a matter of $5-10, you probably shouldn't be purchasing the sets in the first place.

Also when you buy it used and complete you get it right away.

Cool! Minifig-scale minecraft isn't dead. Only 2 sets, but both look interesting.

The ship wreck requires some imagination but at least it isn't another cave. I love the animals, and "on fire" piece for zombie, but hate how much that set will cost due to full brick pirate sails. I wonder if there will be an alternate build that is an actual boat.

The nether dragon build looks kinda meh, but the set looks small enough to justify buying for it.

I know the feeling anon. I was out of interest with LEGO for a long time but when my brother announced he was going to have a kid he took up LEGO again in a big way and I caught it from him. In my mind the minifig is king and is the base scale I think of when building. Funny thing is I have gotten into a hobby of trying to make minifigs like people I know. I have made them my brother, his wife, and his son. Then I also made one for my best friend as well, always trying to capture their character with everything from the hair, faces, and even their outfits. When I presented my brother and his wife with their minifigs they loved them, partly because they didn't know just how much minifig printing had evolved since they were mainly just klocki Star Wars fans. But then later with my friend I not only made him a minifig but threw in a bunch of other stuff too. A chima sword because I remembered he liked the look of it and as a joke even found a "Coping With a High IQ" book because he is very proud of his IQ. Then for his birthday I got him that Creator 3-in-1 car that is also a semi and a boat. That one is actually a two seater.

Now that I watch this again it seems incomplete. Didn't we have a whole long set list of ninjago "remake" sets? There seems to be like 2-3 waves of friends/starwars and ninjago just has spinners and what looks like one "collect all weapons" wave to go along with it.

Maybe some of the blank box stuff are sets we already know of, but I would have expected more for 2019. I hope they release some of the 'winter' 2019 stuff for black friday like how TRU leaked the last nexo knights and some batman sets last year.

The viper is out of production so a Challenger is my guess. A charger would be cool too, I doubt they'll do a 4door.

Chevy, I'd bet it's a bumble bee yellow Camaro.

Or any throw back. A K5 Blazer would be awesome, the ferris bueller 250 Ferrari, equally so. A charger Daytona better than both.

No McLaren or mini I can think of sounds interesting. Senna's mp4 would be super legit, but that brings Honda and Marlboro licenses.

Very cute and wholesome story anon. Glad you guys can enjoy Lego together.
I also think out backstory for my figs big time, but don't self-insert for some reason. (I do do this in other media like drawing and stuff with fictional world that blends into autobiographical stuff)
The thing about minifigs, a consistent scale and attention to detail/story is that it takes construction/modelkit making into making a world that 'feels alive'. I'd rather have more playable, stable and interactive builds the more intricate yet fragile builds made to impress at conventions or more room decoration oriented models like the Architecture sets or Nasa rocket and stuff.

To each their own though, i once flipped to this gallery of a guy that solely made this fuckhueg photo-realistic replica's of small everyday objects like paperclips, burnt up matches and what have you. Or that guy that makes these kinetic powerfunction automata builds with swimming fish and running people and stuff. Or lingonkart and hugebricks that make the large hyper-posable humanoid actionfigures. Always fun to see different stuff.

That's cool. Everyone likes klocki for their own reasons and I always think we would embrace those reasons. I actually really love the Architecture stuff too. The way they manage to scale down those buildings and make them so recongnizable with existing parts is really impressive.
Yeah My bro and his family are the best. A few years ago I started a tradition with them. I surprised them with the 2016 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar at Thanksgiving and simply asked that he text me a pic of whatever gift they get out of each day. Instead he sent me videoes of him and his wife and son opening each window and putting together what was inside. Given my nephew is still a bit too young to appreciate it fully but it was something great to look forward to every day. We always have fun trying to figure out some of the less familiar SW stuff. Like that guy in the gray hood with the gold crowbar. My brother decided he was Gandalf. So I texted him just said, "He's actually Space Gandalf 2020."

I like the brick build mini dewback better than the huge figure from previous sets with no articulation. I always end up thinking that complete single molds for large animals don't quite have the charm of something built out of bricks. Might as well buy action figures if you don't brick build it. Kinda think the same about the jurassic world dinos. Wish there were more parts to them. Small animals are a different matter but for the huge stuff, I wish more of an effort were made.

So i bought the lego batman police pack or whatever because of chief o'hara minifig and i literally can't even right now.
Those damn Danish bastards only gave her one face where she looks like a braindead zombie and the happy one from the movie.
I can easily replace it with a random female fleshy face but she wont have her grey eyebags so i was thinking of erasing her default mouth with a hail remover and then carefully drawing a smile on her.
What do you guys think?

I ended up liking Krennic's chad shuttle a lot more than I thought I would. I love how neatly all the different oddly angled hull pieces fit together perfectly. I let out an inner sigh of satisfaction when I open it up and fold all plates back together. And it had neat minifigs too. Only thing I think they should have included with the build is a stand to prop up the model with wings down.

I (no pun intended) drive myself crazy sometimes when it comes to fitting minifigures in vehicles. Pic related I built like 7 years ago, I managed to fit 5 figures in it on top of a steering/suspension setup.

For me 7 wides are the best scale when it comes to balancing fig fitting, vehicle size, and features. Sure it's possible to dip below that scale to a point, but one thing or another usually has to give.

My local one has it, too, but I haven't been to the walmart in awhile to see if they have them. They actually got in a bunch of polybags. The christmas train, Harry Potter packed to go to Hellwarts, even the "you'll put your eye out" unikitty disc shooter. And the usually why fucking bother unless it has cool parts Star Wars shitshow. Man they rarely ever do figures in those damn things. Every holiday it's just some shitty ass vehicle build that's too dinky to do fuck all with. The Lego arctic isn't too bad either. They had some friends stuff, too, but I didn't check those out. Pretty good for parts, usually.

Reminder that FedEx and DHL were responsible for this law because they aim to drive the post office out of business so they can take over and charge higher prices for worse service.
