>>7253002I think most people can name Pokemon, but it's the card game that seems niche.
I routinely go to conventions, so i get to see its still popular among nerds, but outside? Far fewer people seem to know about it when it comes to the general public.
Older people like myself still seem to play video games, know about anime, but the card games rarely ever get brought up.
Even within this thread, you can see how it's not even popular with all nerds. Whereas I'm sure most of here play VGs and have watched anime.
In terms of board games, I'm sure most of here have played checks, chess, go, and/or other board games like that. Same with card games like poker.
I don't think magic and the like can ever become mainstream, especially not kiddy shit like Pokemon, because of the way the game needs to be bought and collected. The entry point keeps a lot of people out, despite companies like Hasbro giving out Magic starter decks for free.
As for the game itself, i say it's fun, but you need to keep up with that shit or you're left out because of the constantly changing rules and cards. It's dumb that one way of playing can be valid one month and in the next, it's not. In HS, i hated the people who played Magic, except my friends, who gave up after the first revision.
