Thanks Japan. Is there even any reason to pay the premium for this option anymore? EMS used to take 2-3 days. With them extending the fuck-around they're going to do in Japan now, its probably going to be closer to 10-14 days before it arrives now.

Its not. Thats why I just use SAL. I used to do ems more though and if it was a normal part of the service to take 10+ days I wouldnt have used it ever.

EMS used to be the option to pick if you wanted something there in 2-3 days.

I've bought stuff from Japan for almost 20 years. I used to import a lot of video games and artbooks and stuff. New video games release in Japan on Thursday, and 90% of the time, it was on my doorstep on Saturday. That's why I always chose that option.

Now, even before all these changes, it seemed like if I paid for EMS on a Thursday or Friday, it didn't arrive until the next Thursday or Friday. That was due to USPS slowing down. Now Japan Post is slowing down almost the same amount. They're saying an extra 3-5 days, on top of what is usually a week at this point.

Is it better to ship a package from Japan the last week of November or right before Christmas (like the 24th)? I don't NEED it by Christmas, but it would be nice since it's a present for myself. I'm scared it'll get lost in the Holiday mess if they send it to me too soon.

Lost packages occur at all times of year and honestly aren't that common. Only really likely to occur if stolen or if the label becomes damaged and unreadable. So anything you buy from these shops is pretty much good to go.

Now the package may get a little extra roughed up depending on your area but even that's generally not an issue. I say this as someone who has had deliveries every month of every year for the past 10 years. November and December was never an issue for me. I've had random banged up packages when literally nothing was going on in the middle of the year.

This if you're lucky and customs doesn't pick your package for inspection, if that happens you're in for a 5 month ride at the very least.

EMS is listed as generally 3 to 7 days on Amiami so by that logic they could claim generally 5-7 days and it would still fall under faster shipping. Once it becomes over a week then thats where you debate is it worth paying for EMS when SAL is 1-2 weeks.

As long as it stays faster than SAL they can delay shipping for as long as they want.

Couple of days wait isn't gonna hurt you.

Ems is basically for desperate burgers that can't wait to hot glue their new waifu. I live in europe and I've always used regsal until they quit that service last year for some reason. Now I use air small packet which is significantly faster than regsal and only a few bucks more expensive.

I live in PR and I've had to wait a month and a half for a package coming from China, 90% of the time however the package arrives in the US in 4 to 5 days and the rest of the time the package is either sitting in some sorting center, at customs or I know nothing about it. Last time I ordered some knock offs for customs and the package went back to the sorting center twice and once more through customs before it arrived in San Juan.
It might be different in the US but I know full well it ain't, a friend of mine had his package in customs for two weeks before he got it, and it was all smashed.

Should I get worried? Contact the sender? I contacted my country's post office and they told me they couldn't do anything until the package enters the country.
