What's your favorite Transformers comic? I really liked the early issues of RID dealing with postwar reconstruction.

Early RID was heavily underrated, but MTMTE was really, really good at the time and got more focus.

I think the later issues of MTMTE sour my memories of the early issues. Once you see how everything plays out and how the book succumbs to Roberts's worst impulses it casts a shadow over the whole book.

Who can take the DJD seriously once you see how ridiculous they become later?

Megatron was another terrrible thing about the backhalf of his series. MTMTE was the series that focused the most on Decepticon war crimes, with the DJD and the living mines and the suicide bots like Fulcrum and the Nightmare Engine, but it also portrays Megatron as a sad old dindu nuffin. What a joke.

Its strange because the strength of MTMTE was really in getting to see characters interact outside the context of the Autobot/Decepticon war we've seen for ages, with more episodic threats. But all that shit with alternate dimensions and everyone having these elaborate schemes was just...extremely dumb. And then you had self-indulgent stuff like robot dancing.

I kind of disagree with you on Megatron but I see where you're coming from. I like the idea of him trying to atone and being added to the team of outcasts, but but I don't think it did the idea justice at all since Roberts was too busy making him a cutesy grandpa.

The worst part was that the whole plotline of Megatron mentally abusing and conditioning a psychotic superweapon was in MTMTE, but then we get him baking cookies instead of dealing realistically with what he did. And Rodimus is treated like an asshole for not wanting to share his captainship with literal robot hitler.

Now that it's over, I'm baffled by Roberts handling of Rodimus. From the start, his take was devolving the character from where previous writers had taken him, but then he just got worse and worse. It wasn't even halfway through the run that he had a ship built to look like his head. And he never got better, he was always an immature incompetent who needed to be handheld. Finally, he ends up a depressed drunk.
