>>7276084By many measures, it was
it had significant lore expansion
It had Cogman, who interacted with humans in a far better way than most transformers
It got rid of teenager drama, something plaguing all other TF movies
It had Anthony Hopkins
The best megatron design
The best Barricade design
Bumblebee actually looked badass for a change
It brought the military back
I'd say it was probably second best only to DotM, which had many of the same positives.
The Bumblebee movie doesn't have to do well
It has to sell toys well.
TLK suffered HEAVILY from a lack of interesting toys.
Woo, another bumblebee, another drift, another crosshairs, another (albeit much better) hound, another optimus. The toys r us exclusives were, I think, all retools of existing non-bayformer toys. Pretty much Voyager and Leader Megs, barricade, cogman, and Nitro Zues were the only ones worth getting if you had bought toys during AoE. The dragon Knight toys were no where near as fun as the dinobot toys.
I mean, sure as adult collectors we appreciated improvements like hotrod and hound, but to an 8 year old, there just wasn't a reason. Hotrod and Cogman being hard to find didn't help either.
