The DX Chogokin VF-1J is also scheduled for Dec. 29th release. Worth keeping an eye out around release if you're still hunting for an order.
Individually articulated fingers! And check out the integrated gap covers for the top of the chest, neat!

>>7277767 Yes. The only figure with a transformation more accurate than this is one of the Bandai model kits that actually has pistons to move the legs into position.
>>7277768 I'm starting to wonder just how much more merchandise we'll get from some of these old series. The fanbases are starting to age out, I think I might be an anomaly being a 30-year-old who's heavily obsessed with SDF Macross, the core fanbase seems to be much older - late 40's and upwards - not to mention the creators and designers being much older. Same for Gundam. I plan to make the most of these stellar releases we're getting like DX Chogokin, GFF Metal Composite, Robot Damashii ANIME/MSV/Ver Ka, Hi-Metal R, etc because I don't see some of these old series being milkable for much longer.

Fucking hell, I just got my Hygogg and I am fucking impressed at how poseable this thing is without sacrificing fragility. I also like the remolding on the shields to allow them to sit higher on the Phenex's back, plus the dark grey paint accents on the shields looks real nice too.

HLJ added several Gundam RDs to their Winter Sale. Most notable are the GM Cold District for 3300JPY and the Zaku II Kai for an insane 2200JPY:
https://hlj.com/search/go?cnt=30&filter=itemgroup%3aHOLIDAYSALE2018Dec11&w=*&af=selectitemtype%3aactionfigures Highly recommend grabbing a Zaku II Kai if you have any interest in the suit whatsoever!
Also note that when you add sale items to your cart, they sometimes still show up as their original price because HLJ's new site is working SO well, heh. The checkout total, however, should be accurate to the sale price but double-check to make sure.

Anonymous
>>7283976 >The Rick Dias was my first RD and I was quite disappointed at the time Hmm, really? I love the shit out of my Rick Dias.
>>7284051 If you can get Rick for cheap, I say go for it. It's a delight in my book. Head has almost no movement due to design, but it has a pretty decent ab/waist crunch. Knees only get 90 degrees, but elbows go to like 135. Shoulders and hips are beautifully unhindered, it can almost do the splits and has nice butterfly joints. Ankles have some pretty nice range on them too, they're double balljointed. Plus, the giant chunky hands are a delight, and the whole figure just feels good in the hand. It's a hefty boy, and I end up messing with it a lot on my desk.
In fact, I hauled it out again so I could write up this mini-review for you, and fell in love all over again. I'm sure an ANIME Rick Dias could blow this out of the water, but this is here right now, and it's not too shabby at all.

>>7284051 You can’t mount the beam saber blades on the qubeleys wrists. It’s a trivial complaint but yeah it bugs me far more than the mediocre articulation. I actually like both it and the rick Dias. They are solid enough toys though, the articulation isn’t terrible they’re just fat guys and suffer from a lack of butterfly joints and stuff because the fat RDs only recently started getting all the dynamic joints.
Anonymous
>>7284579 Oh Rick Dias grew on me overtime. But initially I went in fairly blind but heard good things about the RD line so I was expecting something mindblowing.
The fault falls directly on me there, but he clearly never put me off the line as they are pretty much the only line I still buy from consistently while I think the last 'Figuart' I bought was PowerDizer a good while back.

As for the waist joint, I don't think it's on a ratchet. The ab crunch/flex joint is and it is a heavy ratchet joint, something like you'd see on a soul of chogokin figure. Overall pretty great, and the joints on the wings seem to be holding up even when they're fully raised and spread. I'll probably try to get it standing on its own soon.

Opened up the Saturn! Not the best first impression as his head had fallen off in the box. It's just a ball joint so it was easy enough to put back into place, but it doesn't making that satisfying 'pop' sound you normally get when you plug in a ball joint. The head stays in place and holds poses just fine, but it's also pretty easy to pull it off. Seems like the tolerances on my Saturn's head are just slightly off.
>>7289503 I agree, watching Mandarake on or around release is the best option. There's almost always an initial stock of RD exclusives stocked there at MSRP, only rarely does Mandarake mark up drastically right out of the gate.
Anonymous
>>7290500 With his head in place though, Saturn's a pretty sharp looking RD. Has a nice matte finish to his plastic, and smooth lines to his sculpt accentuated by clear plastic details and sparse paint apps.

>>7290511 One of the really neat things about the patrol car is that it has a plug for a Tamashii Stage arm!
Anonymous
>>7290514 All in all, Saturn is a solid RD, though not a must-have by any stretch. Aside from my issues with the head not staying on that great (which I strongly suspect is just a tolerance issue with my figure and really isn't that big a deal), my primary gripe would be how the forearm is missing the extra rotation joint found on the Ingram & Type Zero.
The Saturn mounts the shield directly to the underside of the forearm, which is how other shield-carrying RD Labors do it. But, both the Ingram and the Type Zero allow the forearm to be rotated independently of the elbow joint. This lets you retain full poseability no matter how you have the shield oriented on those figures. The Saturn is lacking this forearm rotation which makes posing with the shield a little more awkward compared to the Ingram & Zero.
Nonetheless, if you're a fan of the design I think you'll be happy with the RD. If you're just looking for a Labor to tangle with your Ingrams though, I'd recommend Zero or Brocken over the Saturn.

>>7291107 It's not messy at all. It's just as you mentioned, TV, OVA, and manga. The manga didn't even really break into the west. Gundam is by far more confusing now since TV, movies, Origin Manga, and Origin OVA all have different timelines

My only problem with the Zenith is that it has 2 shoulders, sometimes annoying when I move an arm and the whole block moves along with it but that's part of the design. It's also too small for my taste, a head smaller than usual Robot Damashii and be wary of potential QC problems. My Zenith's right shoulder can't move at all while the left can.

Will Bandai ever reissue this beauty? I feel like it's probably the greatest ANIME figure they've ever done, at least as an overall package.

>>7290644 Yeah! I was finding it difficult to get the shield plugged in all the way as well. What I find works best is to simply detach the connector from the shield, plug the connector into the arm, and then pop the shield back onto the connector. Trying to attach the connector while the shield is still attached just doesn't give you enough solid leverage over the part to plug it in properly.
If the connector is fully seated then the shield should sit tight on the forearm.

https://tamashii.jp/item/12818/ I can understand not including reaction missiles or the box missiles with the DX VF-1J, since Hikaru never mounted them on his 1J. But to not even include the triple missile racks? I want the triple missiles for my 1J, but having to pay $50-60 for them is kinda lame! There's not even any effect parts or anything like they included with the HMR missile pack.
At the same time though, this implies that Bandai won't include any missiles with any of their DX VF-1 releases, so passing on this set means potentially missing out entirely (though I can't imagine the inevitable Super parts failing to include at least some reaction missiles).

>>7305191 Switched to MyKombini just because I liked the pay half first and half later feature. Once the first order came in and they seemed legit I didn't feel I had to worry. Now I'm unsure.
They requested ¥3,450. That was on top of RSAL Parcel to the UK. Probably should have looked at other shipping methods but it was Christmas day and I was on my phone. They were willing to mark it down as a gift and a lower value which should hopefully bypass the customs fees here and at least take some of the sting from that extra shipping cost. But looking at the size of the box
>>7303771 I can only assume they expected something more like the Hygogg or G-Fighter in size.
I'll let it pass this time, however looking at the amount of parts for the RX-78-2 Final Battle Spec release which seems more sparse in parts, if they pull this extra shipping gimmick again I'll be debating if I want to bother with them anymore.

I don't think I've ever gone off a toy faster than the DX Chogokin YF-19. Just decided to transform it back into its valkyrie form, you know, for fun. With the fast packs attached this time. Felt like I was going to break the hip joints at every step of the way, they initially refused to lie flat into their recesses, the chest cannons popped off mid-transformation, all the fast pack parts fell off at one stage or another, the red "vents" that form the chest of the battroid somehow got chewed up by the hips meaning I'll have to sand and repaint them if I can ever be bothered to transform it again, the rear fins would not stay attached, and I absolutely could not get it to fit together with the fast packs attached. On top of that I noticed this time that fucking nothing lines up properly (on my copy of the figure at least), it's impossible to get everything squared away without something somewhere being off-centre, gapped, etc. I wish I'd just left in battroid mode forever and not realised how awful of a toy I think it is, especially seeing as it was a holy grail for me. Can someone please recommend me a good transforming robot toy (ideally not Transformers-related) that's not going to suck up over an hour of my time and put me in a bad mood if I touch it?

You're probably feeling pretty put off by the DX Chogokin line in general right now, but the DX VF-31 series were great in terms of ease of transformation and simply being good toys. The DX VF-1J is also getting some pretty positive feedback about playability according to this touch-and-try report:
https://tamashii.jp/akiba_sr/?p=11125 Going by Google Translate, people were given just 8 minutes with the figure yet nearly everyone was able to transform it in that time. Not a big surprise though, considering the relatively straightforward nature of the VF-1s transformation (which you're probably already familiar with on the Hi-Metals).
Definitely avoid the DX Sv-262; I hated that transformation so dang much.
And I know you prefer non-TFs, but I recently got the TF Studio Series Starscream and I love transforming that guy. Looks awesome in both modes to boot.

>>7305711 >>7306435 I'll vouch for Hi-Metal Rs. They're small, fairly uncomplicated (the VF-2SS ones are a bit more involved due to their design and massive amounts of anime magic), require a bit of parts swapping (wings for hardpoints/smooth, smaller joined pair for anime-accurate battroid, heatshield, landing gear, not-shit hands), but they're small, hefty due to the diecast, hold poses well, are fairly posable, sit on Act 5 stands solidly, etc.

Right back at you Monitor-Anon, crossing my fingers for an RD line of the guymelefs from Escaflowne for this year! As well as hoping a worrisome rumour of a gimmicky order setup for a highly desired RD of mine, is just that; a rumor.
>Griffon is looking very good as well; how do you like it as an RD? Quite a bit(though I don't more pics ready sorry) from what how much I've played around with it, articulation is pretty good considering this design; with so far great balance even with those wings hanging off the backpack. Basically redeeming the design as a figure after a frustrating time with a CM Corps Brave Gokin years ago hahaha!
Also with the gloss surface look, was expecting some nub marks to stick out real awful; but seemingly haven't found one on this figure so far. Really nice bonus, that makes the higher than I'd like MSRP sting less.

Why did they decide to do the OVA designs for Galient? They're not well known and you know that they're almost all going to be P-Bandai releases.

Got the Zeong today. I like him and am happy to have the full 0079 lineup now, but not gonna lie, it feels incredibly flimsy in spots and is really dragging my opinion of the toy down. Hopefully its not actually as fragile as it feels but RDs just probably shouldn't be this size, the plastic is too thin. I do see why we all had to pay for extra shipping though. This box is stupidly huge.
Anonymous
>>7307592 The FMP! MBs are actually pretty inexpensive for what they are in the aftermarket, Arbalest is 16k and Laevatein is 15k on Mandarake because the series itself just isn't that popular.

I was just gifted my first RD, a Shining Gundam, for Christmas. I've noticed that it can't stand very well; I have to fight to get it into any dynamic poses. Is this a common thing with RDs? I was considering buying more, but it I'm gonna need a stand for every single one of them, then they won't be worth the price
Anonymous
>>7310143 If I remember correctly the shining gundam has notoriously weak hip joints? It should be fixable. Most RDs stand just fine, though the occasional one does require some touch ups out of the box to tighten joints.
The only one I own that really has any trouble standing is the Aries and that is mostly a fault of the design, not the toy.
