I purchased this set for $48 AUD.
It arrived today and I just finished building it.
I was pleasantly surprised overall.
There's a majority of interesting and useful pieces in the set which I highly value.
The build itself is dynamic, and involves some neat techniques to achieve the end result. I learned some new things which I highly value too.
Since it first came out I really wanted this set for the weird cyborg creature, so I'm glad to finally have it. Overall I really enjoyed building this set and I'm glad I was able to get it at a nice discounted price.
Building this set made me realize I kinda love the b1 battle droids in lego form. I'll probably see if I can pick up a few on bricklink - they're neat, and I think it could be fun and interesting to have a few on hand, maybe build some weird mocs with them, or incorporate them into mocs architecturally.

The set has 518 parts and 4 minifigures according to bricklink.
Also, that picture is from bricklink, I couldn't get one from the official lego website. But once again, the picture does not do the set justice at all.

I have high hopes that because two characters in the trailer are wearing the flame decal welding mask piece, it'll appear in the CMF wave.

Last thread somebody asked what we'd choose between Blacktron 1 and 2.
I have to go with Blacktron 1.
Also a poster suggested BL1 minifig with BL2 Visor.
I've made my own faction - since Lego hasn't bothered - Blacktron 3.

Has to do with the klocki clown meme. I think most adopted it because we got sick of people saying "Legos", which isn't correct. "Klocki" emphasizes the same connotation without the face palming. Or something.

I honestly don't get why so many people have an intense dislike for this set? It's not necessarily the best amongst the TFA ones but it does a pretty decent job at replicating the scenes it's trying to represent, the building is neat and the Luggabeast blends in a traditional Lego creature body with brick-built parts rather well. I can understand why someone might not like these particular characters or designs themselves, but that shouldn't be something to blame on the set itself.

Considering how the other two are about three or four times more expensive, I'd say it's a pretty reasonable deal. If something, the detailing and proportions are better than the 2005 one, it just naturally feels lackluster in comparison to the UCS.

So here goes nothing - I've decided to try to make a log-based audio drama set in the Ice Planet 2002 theme - although with certain alterations, giving it a little more of a realistic/grim feel ( it is after all a planetary frozen wasteland). It'll be short logs of an as of right now unnamed Ice Planet astronaut.

If you guys think this is a good idea and enjoy the content, I'll keep it going. If not - at least I tried right?

Ideas, suggestions, criticism and "boo get out of here" are all welcome and encouraged.

I love stuff like this, audio logs in games and stuff, and set in one of my favourite themes too. I'd suggest going somewhere cosmic horror-y with it. An ice planet in a largely unexplored solar system could very well have 300 meter long leviathans under the ice.

There's something pure about the lego classic boxes, being able to ignore instructions and just build stuff is so refreshing... I'm hoping to regain my childlike creativity. Building without instructions is almost therapeutic after years of only building city sets.

That's not how it works, anon. Now that Lego produces its pieces using transparent plastic and dye pellets, they can melt down and recycle unused pieces with 99% of the material reclaimed. They don't create new themes just to make use of leftover pieces. They might have done that for Time Cruisers but keep in mind that line came out right as Lego was spiraling into bankruptcy.

Serious? Why don't they make more colour options for all the parts then, seems unreasonable.. Gets frustrating sometimes to make a MOC only to realize a percentage of it isn't possible due to Legos limited colour selection on some parts

I don't understand why they have a pick a brick wall, but no where we can submit orders for specific bricks with specific colours.. Seems like it would be in Legos best interest, just another missed opportunity.

That's because you're ignorant of how distribution works. I'm not saying that to insult you; "ignorant" is the best descriptor in this situation. Here are some points to keep in mind:

Shipping bricks from the factory to the store costs money.

Running the machines that produce the bricks cost money.

Lego sells bricks with a steep markup because they make more money that way.

Lego is a for-profit company whose entire reason for existing is to make more money for the people who run the company.

Lego is a for-profit company that will never choose an option that makes less money when they also have an option that will make more money.

The cost and effort to produce and distribute pieces in custom colors outweighs any profits they would make by doing so. Logically, if they thought they would make more money from offering custom pieces, they would, but they don't think that, so they don't do that.

Much like the Ideas line, needing 10000 votes to even be reviewed, specific custom colour bricks could be offered in 100K batches at above 10cent a brick, you could account all costs into the price simply because it's a custom colour brick and we are aware that there are costs involved.

I'd be down for it. I don't know if TLG would be comfortable with revealing too much information about the actual costs of production per piece. A more realistic scenario would be something like an Ideas set, except it would be "100 of the 1x6x5 panel in bright pink", where you'd buy a bulk lot of a specific piece.

However, at this point, you hit the problem of finding 10,000 people who are willing to commit to buying this custom piece and convincing TLG that it's worth the risk. Maybe if it was a Kickstarter-style setup where people had to back with a credit card beforehand, they might consider it.

They have this, it's called Bricks and Pieces or somesuch. You find it on lego.com.

The only drawback is that popular pieces sell out pretty fast.

Maybe if it was aimed more directly at the moccers, exactly as you said, a program where people had to back their order with credit first.

Fully refundable if the brick doesn't meet the expected number.
This I would sign up for immediately, even if it meant waiting 6 months for.

I honestly wouldnt care about knowing the costs of production so long as the pieces were reasonably priced..
Just for example, if a blue 1x2 was say 10cents, a chrome brick of the same 1x2 would be 40cents, 4x the price I would be ok with, after all it would be about buying exclusive colours, and for moc designers I believe many of us would sacrifice our wallets to have our projects in colours we were hoping for.

Fleshing out the idea I would propose this, a new page of the Lego site would be introduced

Upon logging onto this page you'd see a top ten hotlist of the trending brick sales atm
Followed by a parts list that you can navigate for your intended purchase.
A final section much like the replacement brick site, where you can manually enter the element ID

If your element is NOT in the list of already ordered bricks, you only have to buy 10 bricks to start the process of getting your brick colour on the wishlist.

Once on the wishlist, each person is buying 10+(in increments of 10) bricks at a time, until the intended amount is reached, at which point, Lego would produce the bricks, you'd be notified and they'd be shipped out to you (at your expense of course, this would be added in at your purchase)

Reason for the 10 at a time is to reach the desired amount more efficiently, but also to add for the account of spares.

My intention isn't for these bricks to be hoarded only by the designers but for the community to benefit from this to, as surely some of the left over bricks will/might end up on Bricklink, getting out to someone who might not of had the chance to get those colours at the time, or didn't want to sign up for 10 at a time when they only needed 2.

It might be a bit of a ask from Lego, but I believe it would benefit us all, it would give Lego yet another source of income for a price they get to set.

Right now Speed Champions is my favourite line, but something the line is starting to lack is colour variety, it's alot of red, white, black, blue, yellow. I personally would like to see the colour palette be expanded drastically, and if it meant paying to recolour a car or make a new one in a completely random new colour, that would be exciting.

The bigass crawler had only skeleton inside. And it cost a shit ton of money.

While this one is fun to play with and cheap compared to that.

is you I'd suggest spreading things out a bit more. Move the spider legs to the outside of the leaves. Then, turn the robot arms over and point them up-ish. Use a green shoot to mount a leaf something like this.

I somehow got it at this price.
I opened it last night without thinking, then I checked ebay and people ahve it listed for 200 to 500 dollars :\ Idk how I feel now lol.
I'm still enjoying the set as I build it, I guess I just feel more concerned about ensuring the minifigs and other particular pieces stay in mint condition.

The minifigs anchor into the jumper studs, and the rest of their legs sits on top of the tiles, lining up neatly just far enough inside for the doors to close completely and keeping enough space between them that their shoulders aren't crowded as long as the facing arms aren't in the same position.

Depends on the ride. My cars tend to be pretty delicate around the center because I make the chassis low enough for a standing minifig outside the car to not look dwarfed by it (the blue car in the back only has one plate underneath the seating jumpers, and the entire back end is only held on by the part of a 2x4 tile that makes up part of the back seat). However, if you're making a sporty truck, a single extra plate isn't going to be hard to fit in since you'll have so much extra space on the underside because of the raised wheels.

Simplest way is to start off with something like a 6x4 or 6x6 plate as your "seating area", put some mudguards in place in front and behind it, then start molding something that fits.

Fuck, I was super excited for the Overwatch line. After seeing some of the close ups of the figs, my disappointment just grows. It seems like they put as little effort into designing this series as possible. I wanted to get all of the sets, but I'm just going to get the D.Va/Rein for the mechs and thats it. Damn, because I was super hyped for this too.

Why, LEGO? Why? If they do a second series, I hope it is a lot better.

Other sets just not worth it and figures look lazy.

Also that super huge and expensice Gibraltar(?) set is super disappointing. It has very boging BUT HUGE space shuttle. that dont even represent the videogame map (you cant really interract with it. nor you can climb on top of that thing that holds it. not to mention the thing from that set is NOT EVEN IN THE GAME)
they could add just an actual fun map-piece where you can play and create something like match/battle between teams.
Instead of that abomination. Nobody wants an overwatch set for space shuttle. We wanted lego Overwatch to have a huge map-piece that they could totally do with parts cont from the shuttle set
