Aside from the face, it's the same mold. If you have no particular attraction to the G2 colours either from the toy or the comic, then there's nothing about him that recommends him over the original. If you just want the lambo mold and don't mind the black and red colourscheme and the abjectly absurd face then he's plenty of fun on the shelf.

He's brilliant, anon. I own the lambo mold three times (regular Sideswipe and Clampdown as well), and he's easily the best variation. The black paint is gorgeous, the extra weapons and spiked-wheel shoulder pads he comes with imbue him with much more personality than your average MP, as well as the out-of-this-world face sculpt.

Saw this whole long ass dissertation looking essay a while ago on how the bayformers movies were a clever critique on American-centric action and attitudes and how genocide/subservience is the overlying motivation for the autobots and how Megatron as the struggling, tortured man who wants to save his homeworld was always the secret tragic hero.

The comic or book version of Dark of the Moon has Megatron in a much more sympathetic role, actually. When he brings Cybertron back he teams up with Optimus to take out Sentinel and they part ways as bros.

If you think of how Megs wanted the Allspark then the ability to use the Sun Eater in RotF in order to save his dying race, and finally just to rebuild Cybertron in DotM, he's actually kind of likable. Hell, the exchange from the first movie where he tells Optimus that "humans don't deserve to live" stems directly from getting fucked over by the human race.

I avoided movie Bumblebee toys for so damn long. More than 10 years now I've been avoiding them. Finally, one interested me enough to break my vow, and I'm pleasantly surprised. This thing is pretty fucking great, I'm really pleased with how well it poses and how cute the altmode is. Only thing is, mine doesn't have those silver paint apps on the toes. Bay's movies are masterpieces and Knight's Bumblebee is a pale imitation. Bare bones cast. Boring small scale plot. No real stakes. No action which is the primary strong point of the movies. The angle of Optimus dooming Cybertron and his entire race because he put his ideals first makes him the most complex and interesting version of the character ever.
