Though I do agree with >>7307452 in that the cast shield actually looks better then the original. The original is almost cartoony with how smooth and clean it is. I tried giving mine a slight paint wash and even then it's still fairly boring looking. Yours, with all those molding imperfections, looks like it's been beaten and battered and that's just fantastic.

Not him, but I thought about those when I made mine and decided against it. The new handheld peg design they're based on is a good idea, but in practice they fall out of hands all the time. I did like >>7287892 and just cut a couple of the swordbelts and glued them on as straps. It sort of looks like ass, but they're solid as hell and you hardly see the inside of shields anyway.

my guess is either just a pale version of the horse they do, or they might give it one or two parts with a rotted effect to it*, a Skeleton horse has potential structural issues after all, at least if it's expected to be able to carry another figure on it

*honestly I'm kinda surprised we haven't gotten a zombie of some sort in this line yet considering how easy it'd be to do, just need a new head and maybe one or two other new pieces as well

so what things would you guys want to see in the future, either as official figures or as custom figures, personally I'd love to see more variants on the "Greenskins", such as the Stone Troll or Frost Troll's counterparts among the Goblins, Orcs, and Ogres, or the Orc, Ogre, and Troll counterparts to the Bog Goblin and whatever Thistlethorn's type of Goblin is called

The Hagnon head is pretty much a zombie, it just needs to be painted. There were a few custom zombies made with that head, and the details on it really pop when it actually has colors on it.

I have a long list of figures I'd love to see and it gets longer as new parts are added.

First off, we need Lizardmen. They can use the same trick the Minotaur used, the whole neck overlay, new head and new feet. They'd work best on the 1.0 build using the bare chest and limbs and could come in a variety of colors.

There's also the old "Norse Warrior" runner up from the first Fan Ex, basically the Bearded halfhelm on the Tabard body with silver and blue armor. Or even a more "realistic" viking type figure with the tabard painted as a brigantine and using darker armor colors.

A Royal Guard using the Vitus head on the Tabard body with the large collar in gold and red would also be nice. Could either bet a Legion Builder or a fully decorated troop builder, but getting that head on a non-barbarian body would be nice.

An Orc Girl pirate captain with leather gloves/boots and the tabard/bare abs combo like in that one fanart concept would be amazing. As would be an appropriate crew to go along with her (mix of goblins, skeletons, some humans etc).

A proper rogue/thief type human character would be amazing, maybe using the Skeleton builders male torso set up, which should really be used on more figures.

...I could go on for days, and most of these figures wouldn't even need new parts. There's so much potential with this line, and it's one of the things I love most about it.

Thanks, that was a first attempt. Getting a grip that looks good on both sides would be tricky, I wasn't as concerned for the initial test. I'll try a 4H shield next with the hot glue mold.

I did try making a mold out of putty again, and it just wasn't holding it's shape very long. I put it in the freezer for about 20 minutes and that helped. I then left it in overnight, and the next day the putty was basically ruined. So chill, not freeze, may be a little better, but I think I'm going to experiment with the hot glue molds versus putty unless someone has a better suggestion.

Brother Mandibulus and Hagnon surprised me at how great they are, so if they continue with that level of detail and alternate parts I won't complain.

Highly articulated literally means nothing. It's a buzzword phrase that toy companies have used forever. Western companies in particular still abuse it to this day to sell figures with almost no range of articulation.

Legally speaking "highly articulated" refers to the number of joints, not the actual range of those joints. In that sense those two are definitely highly articulated. They have neck, shoulders, elbows, wrist, hips, knees and ankles. Probably a torso joint in there too.

If you dig the look of some of the cheaper legion builders, get one of those first to see if you like the figures. If you don’t like those, then just buy the cheapest figure you do like the look of.

There’s a small preorder up right now at storehorsemen, but they won’t be out for a while. BBTS, ebay, and sometimes the bst here on /toy/ is where you can get the released figures.

Stop posting this shit. The scale was changed because the prices changed on a production level. There is a reason 4 inch lines have all but died out and the few still around cost a fortune for their size. At a certain point any price advantage for that scale just disappeared.

4-inch Nel is a perfect example of this. If they were proper 6 inch versions (licensing is what stops them) they'd cost about the same price and give way more value. Or how about SIC KT and Revoltech Mini? How about GI Joe? That scale isn't possible in today's world so get over it. When they had that idea and made that statement we were on the cusp of things changing and they didn't realize it until afterward.

The final design of the elbow has a different sculpt with better range than the paint prototype, and the belt armor thing is surely soft if the smaller figures are of indication. Hips have very good range on the existing figures.

ML are not the most articulated folks around, but generally speaking they have the joints you'd typically need to pose them. Most notable limitations are the single jointed elbows and knees (single as in, a ball joint) and the inability to grab two handed weapons.

This view, if it was ever accurate, is outdated now though. Things have not stopped changing and they should have stuck with their original plan. More and more companies, especially asian based companies, have switched to 1/18 scale because of cost reasons. All but died out? It's thriving.

Additionally stop talking about these like they are mass market toys, they're not and never were.

1/18 was always the way to go with this line and now that there's been a few waves and things will get more and more expensive as they get bigger people will drop off do to price and space concerns.

They'd cost $25-30 and be able to put out basic versions at $15-20, and larger figures and monsters would be far cheaper and more abundant and possible. Those trolls would be $50 instead of $100, a dragon would be $100 instead of $250. And mark my words you will see their current standard figures get bumped to $40 or have significantly less premium paint within the next year or 2.

The thing I find so funny about this whole argument is that I wish BFS were the ones who went 6" instead of the other way around. I'd pay so much for them to just upscale their medusa body to 6".

Coincidentally, she's also the only toy of theirs I really like because she doesn't have their weak legs with no thigh swivel or female exclusive ankle tilt. One figure and properly hinged wrists are about it.

The 6 inch scale is popular for a reason. It's easiest to handle while striking a balance between price and function. Certain accessories that are small on a 6 inch line would be a nightmare on a 4 inch line.

Everyone already is paying $20-30 for any 1/18 worth paying for, from Bossfight to Acid Rain to the upcoming fun stuff like Planet Green Valley. In my opinion the only 1/12 figures currently worth buying already hit anywhere from $60-100. I'm fine with paying what things cost these days for what I like. But I buy one off 1/12 figures, or small sets of figures. Mythic Legions is a line with tons of characters designed for army building and with creatures, mounts, and playsets in mind. 1/12 was a terrible decision and I'll never own more than a handful of figures.

This is false.

There's more companies entering the 1:18 field than there were in the mid-00s. GI Joe is only dead because Hasbro fucked shit up by fucking over the retailers stuck with movie toys by delaying the movie for nearly a year.
Hasbro also decided that 6" figures is better than 4" figures, mainly because they get twice the money for 50% size increase. This is also why they used to push 2 packs for 1:18 figures so hard, because they'd get more money and the figures being mostly retools or redecos (sound familiar to 4H?).

This is what a $20 toy looks like for collectors. About the same amount of paint and better articulation than a $25 NECA predator.

Eh, the amount of plastic needed to make these figures wouldn't really affect the price too much. The biggest factors in pricing a figure usually comes down to parts count and paint apps. Both of which directly affect the production time due to increased assembly times and increased labor cost from added paint layers.

4H makes shit in small batches and only on demand because of that, whereas BFS, MGR, and other 1:18 scale companies are constantly producing their shit year round to keep up with demand. Some companies like Ori Toys and Devil Toys (makers of War of ORder) have their figures sell out within a month's time and need to make more figures.

For larger in-scale figures? That's even harder to do today than ever, yet we constantly see 1:18 makers easily produce large scale figures and vehicles all the time. Nevermind that they'll be better articulated, because the joints don't need to hold as much weight.

Didn't even back the last two MTF kickstarters, because i'd rather just wait to see how the figure will turn out instead of doing a blind buy. Pretty awesome i can buy stuff after seeing the final product, huh? no buying from scalpers with their rape prices either.

Also i put in an order with MGR a couple of months ago and it was #26011.
Over 26,000 orders from their webstore alone and that's after it was revamped.

MGR's stuff is a year round proven success, unlike 4H's lines, where they demand interest free loans because banks won't give credit to non-viable businesses.

You mean you continue to ignore the fact that they don't, since you love ignoring their extra hands that MyLs need because of the constant complaint that their wrists don't allow for realistic sword swinging motions, and also need to continue to ignore the fact that other companies exist with better articulation and more paint.

Nevermind the fact that other companies have proven how well large over-sized scale figures/vehicles sell in 1:18 scale and not in 1:12.

BTW, did you know that MGR tried a Kickstarter to make 1:12 weapons? Complete failure, like most other 1:12 kickstarters. Whereas most 1:18 lines go through, showing how popular they are.
MGR later did a 1:12 set on his own dime, but that's because he proved his company is a success to the banks. Same with BFS.

My Christmas gift (the Vampire) is finally here. My legions of evil are slowly growing!
Vamp does look very nice in person, from the promo pics i though the purple was brighter, but it's actually good looking and matches well with the armor imho, the rest of thr armor is more of a matte black, which i also like very much. Overall he looks sleek and more elegant than i expected. Om a side note, damn, those bright, pearly-dead-white-eyes are weirdly fascinating, i wonder if these Vampires can hypnotise their victims.

Not really now, no. If you don't get in on preorders or in-stock sales, you're looking at a 200-300% and above markup on ebay. BBTS has a reissue wave up for preorder that should be hitting around feb-march iirc, but even those are starting at 50.

There's a real easy way to figure this out, as they're all great figures.

First off, Male or Female figure?

-If Female > Iron Knight
-If Male > Human or Elf?

-If Human > Steel
-If Elf > ....the Elf (duh)

Just want it for the spare parts? Get the Iron Knight as it has the best base color.

Other then the basic race/gender/color of the figure, they're all the same. Though the Elf does come with different heads.

I'm surprised we haven't seen the head reused yet though. They could probably get a variety of aquatic goblins out of it, especially if they go that extra step and start swapping out the feet and arms of the Dwarf build like they did on Halmyr and Gonxx.

that's odd, nearly all of my figures ankles joints are so tight to the point where they wont articulate, i have to give them the hot water treatment.

But in 1.75 my minotaurs ankles were floppy as fuck, so a bit of teflon tape fixed that right up. You just wrap some of the tape around the peg very tightly, and give it a few layers, and pop the joint right back in. it works perfectly and you don't have to mess with glue or any floor polish methods and its not permanent, so you can take it remove/add more to adjust the tightness.

How does borrior's tail work? The 2.0 hips have a socket for it, but he's got the 1.0 hips and there's nothing there. I got an extra set of hooves/tail/head to turn a spare dwarf into another boarrior and the tail's the only thing I can't swap.

From the thumbnail this looked like it was some kind of frost giant or something and I figured it was a new figure. Sadly it's just a test shot of the normal giant. Though if he had a color scheme like this (with more details of course) I probably would've grabbed him. As is, he's just a larger barbarian builder figure. While being an upsized Orc works for the Ogre imo, the barbarian one needed something a bit more unique to him.

Still, the update on the weapon is good news. A big two handed weapon will look far more intimidating in their hands over the smaller one handed version.

They have been doing "All-star" releases of previous waves in between major releases. Their selections are based on fan votes typically.

In general, I recommend following 4 Horsemen studios as they release and buying when they release. They'll never be reasonable aftermarket, the best you'll get is BBTS prices, which are already marked up.

Yes, and I'll add that the appeal of these figures is that they are quite generic, so don't get crazy trying to get a specific figure when they'll probably make a slightly different barbarian in the future which you may like just as much as the one you were looking for.
Just keep an eye on these threads and preorder directly from the 4H store when new waves come up.

In the case of the Vamp Legion Builder you can wait for the second pre-order to start shipping, aftwars there probably will be an in-stock sale, these don't last long and don't allow people to get more than 2 or each figure, but it's the best way of paying a fair price for them before hitting BBTS and aftermarket madness. If you miss that than i believe BBTS still has some, others that are sold-out are up for pre-order again as well.
Be aware that 4H haven't said anything about an in-stock sale after the second preorder yet, but it's what usually happen.

So my Vamp Legion Builder just arrived!
As her paint is much more plain than the other ones i switched her arms and legs with Vamp Soldier so she has a bit of purple on her body as well, although now i kindda miss the silver bits on Soldier's arms. In the future i might actually try to pain some silver details on her.
With that said, i really like how she looks and her double blade saber/swords make her look quite badass.
Overall i'm pretty happy and was left wanting more Vamps and evil underlings.

Yeah, actually the first ML i ever bought are the 1.0 Skeleton and Templar, from the All-Stars wave, can't wait for them! Also got a few 2.0 others on the second pre-sale, the ones i have though came from the In-Stock sale + BBTS.
To be honest i want to get more right now, but i think i'll be patiente and wait for the pre-orders and future in-stock sales as they are much cheaper. Maybe try to get Carpathias to increase my Vampire ranks.

Mythic Legions has ruined my perspective of value on action figures.
This also costs 35 bucks. but man, where are the accessories? I'm so used to have a ton of little extras, that i tend to look down on things im interested in, because the value isn't there anymore.

Yeah, the helmet looks stupid, but it’s spot on to the source material.

All the MOTU figs look like they have stubby arms from certain angles. They won’t be any stumpier than any of the other hundred figures that use the same He-Man body.

So the result was, 2.0 restock got delayed, but Soul Spiller and All-stars get pushed forward.

I've been wanting to get into Mythic Legions but in the past all the figures I was interested in were always sold out but BBTS seems to have a pretty great selection in stock right now. Are they the best place for these or am I falling for a meme?

Stock sales will go quick, but they tell you exactly when they start so it's not going to just suddenly start up. That said, the last Stock sale had enough for everything to be around for a few hours and had a lot of figures hang out for a few weeks before being taken down for the next pre-order sale to start. If you're just looking for random figures to try out the line, you should be able to grab something, but if you want something specific, I'd suggest keeping an eye out for when the sale starts and being ready to jump in right away.

The process for each wave is the following:
-One or a few preorder periods. They are announced beforehand (newsletter, this very thread, etc.) and you may order as much as you want during these periods because the items will be built for order. They usually last for several weeks and there's no need to hurry since they are not limited in number.
-The items are built and shipped to the people who preordered.
-A sale of whatever excedent they've got in-stock. They are also announced in advance, but these are the ones that are a mess because there's usually not much quantity and people have to rush, the site collapses, you may be limited to one item during the start of the sale, items may disappear from your cart as other people buy that last one, etc.

So, ideally, you should preorder. You may try your luck on the next in-stock sales, and it appears that they might have been getting better at stocking proper amounts of items in these sales, but otherwise just wait for further waves you can preorder, especially if you're not after one very specific figure and just want a generic, knight, barbarian, goblin...

last time they had an in stock sale they made it so you could only buy two figures of each character during the first hour. I expect this to happen again, it was quite well received and I think no figure sold out in the first hour due to it.
Still you shouldn't be too slow, because buying is going to take a while since the site regularly shits itself during the sales

If you signed up for their newsletter, they will send emails a few weeks before it starts, the day before it starts and usually the day it actually starts. They're usually very good about informing people when these things go down. As for the ones up on BBTS, if they're still for sale now, the likelyhood of them selling out before the 4H sale is low. Generally everyone recommends people wait for the actual 4H sales and people who go through BBTS usually don't know any better and/or are really desperate. At this point, wait for the 4H sale (generally BBTS would get more new stock from these orders as well) then if you can't get something you REALLY want from the 4H directly, see if it's on BBTS. The troop builders on BBTS are certainly not worth it, but the main fully priced figures aren't too horribly overpriced.

They usually release new figures like twice a year or so, but they said they want to start doing it quarterly. Right now there doesn't look to be any possible pre-orders in the near future, but they're awaiting a massive order from three previous pre-orders that should all hit around the same time. When that happens they'll have their feeding frenzy in stock sales and I'm sure not too soon after they'll announce whatever is next in the line.
