Holiday clearances are kicking in, and...Jesus, how many times can the same character on clearance? Two or three times over, no less? That's just sad.

Newest wave of Black Series 6" is sporadically hitting Targets too. I got Skiff Lando for $10 before Christmas.

Black Series Archives had been found at Target before Christmas as well, so expect those to show up and/or be held back until a reset happens.

SW is pretty much on clearance or markdown at several locations. Doubtful 2019 will be much better.

It's simple. Disney cared more about getting a figure of every race and gender on the pegs from perfect woman to black man to frumpy asian to powerful lesbian, etc etc that they literally filled the pegs with them and -almost- nothing else. To make things worse they have then dressed this rainbow of people in nothing but samey drab outfits.

Star Wars was a fantastic seller for decades because it was full of cool aliens, badass faceless troopers, sword weilding samurai, and iconic ships. Yeah, they'd pepper in an old man in a robe here, and a suave black guy there, and a fat ugly person there. And even THESE handful of figures were notorious pegwarmers.

I challenge you to refute this in any meaningful way.

People have shelves full of different Jawas, different droids, tribes of sand people/tusken raiders, a Jedi council of dozens of crazy aliens, bounty hunters all more unique and badass than the last, entire cantina bars full of crazy designs. There is not a tribe of aliens to make 3+ different figures of in ANY of the new films. The handful of crowded alien shots in the new movies have barely gotten any figures. People are so starved for anything remotely cool that when they finally do something approaching what people want out of star wars- the red gaurds with different weapons and helmets- they sell better than anything else. Instead of putting brown dog looking aliens of the background of force awakens for 2 seconds they should have some alien characters. Instead of making benecio deltoros character some bum in a dirty robe he could have been a badass with a metal arm or something. Instead of making the "maybe she's a badguy but no she's really a hero bam expectations subverted" character a literal purple haired lesbian in a dress make her the evil looking mustache twirling alien we see on the casino planet for 2 seconds. Make smart design and character decisions instead of "make sure we have at least two of every race in some kind of drab military brown and or dark green outfit!"

There was much greater variety of toys and the big pegwarmers were the figures like Ric ole, a middle aged dude with a receding hairline in a nothing outfit. A generic guy in a generic coat. Plus this never happened on a grand scale after the first waves leading up to the hype prior to the movie. We are multiple years and multiple movies in to this now and things are worse than ever. During these mid movie times back during the prequels they were putting out the best toys that wouldn't stay on the shelves.

While there are significant sociopolitical reasons why SW, Ghostbusters 3 and the like flopped, these reasons are intentionally being blown out of proportion. Private companies have been pursuing a model of ruthless efficiency. No experimentation, no risks. Recycle what works and lower production costs as much as possible. If a lower executive or project head fails, he/she gets the boot ASAP. So in order to keep their positions, they need scrapegoats. SW is bombing because of bad script, bad designs and a host of other problems including political advocating. But if the project staff pins the blame on the politics (in particular the nerds' beliefs, not even their own or the decision to insert them in the first place) then the writer, the costume designer etc plus the people who hired them can continue working. The failure won't count as their fault.

The higher ups are completely detached from the consummer mass. They live in a different world entirely. They see the sales dropping but they have no idea as to why. All their feedback comes from the very people whose jobs depend on shifting the blame for their bad decisions. This disheartening. We can boycot all we want and nothing will change aside from the companies going bankrupt, thus permanently ending the lines we once liked.
I believe we're at a point where those of us who care should do like Luther and nail papers with their opinions on the company HQ doors.

A nearby Target had 2 Luke Archive figures. I'm pissed off because I juuust need IG-88 and of course whoever got them first bought the bounty hunters.

Anyway, Luke's okay? It's not as bad as Figuarts, but it's not as clean as the other face prints either.

So the Target down the road got Boba, Bossk, and IG-88, no Luke the Target the other day had the 2 Lukes...so I'm wondering if the case got split up between the two stores in a tote or something. Worked for me, cause I was finally able to get IG-88 and complete the Bounty Hunters in 6".

I found this guy at Gamestop today and I have to say, I'm very surprised by the articulation on the head-neck and the somewhat limited but still butterfly joints.
The one thing that is annoying, though, is the fact that when you push his leg forawrd it tends to go the side, so in sitting positions he's going to appear a bit bow-legged.

My greatest hope for a haslabs project is a Star Destroyer playset that plays fast and loose with the design in order to make the best toy. Something that looks more like the classic star destroyer on the outside but contains mostly elements from Vader's executor. Engines that can be switched from blue glow to red glow to off. Glowing lights in a motorized meditation chamber. An emporer hologram (best way would be a moving hologram like the Tron Legacy figure faces). A bridge for the bounty hunters with multiple levels and a fold out window pane to have the shape of the bridge window. Sliding blast doors. Any number of other rooms: a combat training room, a brig/torture room ala bespin, a bay that launches a probe droid.. this is my dream star wars item, and it's more than doable. A true flagship for the badguys, greater even than the Big Millennium Falcon.

My dream set is a little section of Mos Eisley. Maybe a three (fairly small) stucco-style buildings. One slightly higher than the others so that there's steps. A moisture vaporator and a little trinket stall with an awning made of scrap and cloth.

You could buy several of the sets and orient them in different ways to make a small city. They'd sell like hotcakes, especially with the Mandalorian coming out.

It pulls in pretty similar ratings to the Marvel shows on Disney XD. Nothing on that channel tends to pull in more than 1 million viewers because nobody gets that channel though. I imagine toys won't sell well because of that. On the plus side they're pretty colorful so they're more appealing to the eye than a lot of the movie based figures that all seem to be in brown and beige colors, but a lot of them don't even look like Star Wars characters. They look like Overwatch and Fortnite characters or something.

Anybody else want to answer the question? Since apparently I need to elaborate because this one guy doesn't like short-hand: this thread and many toy fans in general have been pounding on the fact that they no longer like Star Wars because of The Last Jedi and this killed Solo etc etc, but the Sail Barge was put up between TLJ and Solo yet it was hugely successful. I realize there's a numbers disparity between what it takes to run a successful crowd funding campaign and a successful retail line but the narrative has been non-stop that Star Wars isn't selling anymore. I see it in every thread from figuarts to hot toys. So how to explain that Hasbro was able to presell so many Sail Barges if the hardcore fans are no longer on board? By that point they'd already seen TLJ presumably.

Well I think there has been numbers crunched and toy sales actually are down for Star Wars so it's not entirely false. Sail Barge is only appealing to the die-hard fans and doesn't necessarily represent their toyline as a whole. They have two different 3.75" lines going on right now. One of which is their bread and butter line. It gets the biggest amount of support with far more vehicles, creatures, multi-packs, and single carded figures being put out than not only Hasbro's collector focussed 3.75" line, but also it's semi-successful 6" line. People who shelled out for the barge is in the collector market. It's possible that several of them bought the Barge but had no interest other Star Wars big market items at retail such as the $100 Kessel Run Millennium Falcon that can only fit one figure in the cockpit or even smaller stuff like a single carded Princess Leia in Hoth Fatigues with far less articulation than the previous version of the character that came out 8 years ago. Their bread and butter line is a step down quality wise from their previous efforts, alienating hardcore collectors that have no issue paying for the barge.

Lego sets from the same movies that are pretty pricey often don't shelf-warm as hard as Hasbro's offerings. Usually those Lego sets are paced perfectly with usually no more than 2 or so waves of product being on shelves at the same time. Lego's have a creative play-factor that appeal to kids and a quality that matches collectors standards that create for a nice, streamlined toyline.

Hasbro's recent approach has become to make a different toyline to appeal to every possible demographic. A 3.75" line for kids, a 3.75" line for collectors, a 6" line for collectors, a Mighty Mugg series for people into Funko Pops, a doll line for girls, a junior line for toddlers, etc. A Star Wars collector can fit into one or any combination of these various lines.

Particularly whatever aliens come out, but also that wampa they put out, and even the rare vehicle like Han Solo's landspeeder. I'll pick up the occasional Black Series figure like the Gamorrean Guard, Skiff Lando, or 4-LOM. But there's generally a lot of stuff on the shelves I just couldn't care less about. I'm not even sour on the new movies or characters or anything, I just kind of feel like Hasbro hasn't really been giving it their all like they did with past Star Wars movie lines or even the lines they did in the off years. That said I have no real grasp on the economics of the situation, all I can say is a lot of their stuff doesn't interest me.

As far as toys go, immediately stop focusing on Nu-Star Wars and instead make definitive editions of each character from the original saga. Make the toys so good that not only are Star Wars fans happy but toy collectors all get into the line. Ideally, create a phenomenon where Star Wars toys go back to being as big of a deal as they once were.

And they're putting out that new line of basic 3.75" stuff which is repacks of just OT characters with a comic included. I figure they'll get their episode 9 stuff out and then return to OT and PT stuff. PT in particular has a lot of untapped potential.

I work in a mid-size, independent toy shop. Star Wars stuff use to be one of the best sellers but it's really cooled off. There was a small surge after The Last Jedi but it did not last long at all and we over-bought on stock. The only thing that regularly sells is Star Wars Lego. And even then, most of the sets based on the new movies aren't moving. In fact, I think we sold more Harry Potter Lego this month than Star Wars.

Surprisingly, the store is seeing a lot of growth even with video games and amazon. In particular, there's been a lot more people buying board games, models, animatronics and nerf guns. Seems like a revival of people wanting the in-store experience and using the toy store as family time to walk around, look at the displays and see what their kids are interested in.

Just search "Bandai General Grievous" on Ebay.
Building isn't exactly rocket sciene unless you can't even handle LEGO though painting is a bitch.
The neck looks way too long on Hasbros figure, the kit works way better if you want to go for the Genndy look. Figuarts is also an option and I assume that it will finally release either this or next year.

I almost bought a stormtrooper model kit during Barnes and Nobles christmas sale for $18, but decided not to because of this.

I build gunpla all the time, but why would i want buy a Hasbro Stormtrooper when i can just buy something more durable and then paint that Hasbro figure up?
At least with Gunpla the model kit is usually cheaper than a RD and the RD are so damn plain that they're usually not worth it despite being slightly more durable than a kit.

Still, $18 for a Stormtrooper kit was a good deal, but meeeh, i was just buying just because it was cheap and not because i wanted it. I bought a DC trade instead.
