It was around for literal years, and it kept going down in price. It was only $50 before it finally sold out.

I honestly think the days of MOTU as a 6'' figure line are numbered. The hardcore fanbase from the 80s has mostly bought up MOTUC to form their nostalgic collection, and a select few have double dipped or started the filmation stuff. This is after a lot of them bought the 2K3 stuff, from figures to statues. Thats a LOT of rebuying similar toys over and over, and since MOTU isn't a replenishing fandom, there aren't many new
fans to hook on a similar sized line. Thats why I think fans are moving on to buying a select few statues or 12'' Mondo figures, the Mega Construx, or even the Reaction stuff to continue their fandom. Mattel has no interest in it getting 6'' figures to retail anytime soon.

Thats a part of the reason I decided to just start buying MOTU figures even though I had apprehension to their articulation. ITs actually a pretty decent time to jump in even withthe insane prices because you might just find some one trading in their toy-based figures for Filmation ones. I've gotten figures on the BST here and elsewhere for half the going rate on eBay or toy shows.

I think there are, as long as they do something that is available at retail and aimed at something other than the nostalgic fans. I only just got into the whole MotU thing this summer. I'm only really nostalgic for the 87 movie as I was born just a little too late for the He-Man craze. i was a Ninja Turtles kid. But I was starting a new job where I worked a sleep shift and so I ended up with a LOT of free time and thought briefly to fill that time by doing a webcomic solely through toy photography and needed to fill the civilian/supporting characters/extras ranks and saw a bunch of clearanced MotUC figures. I bought them and was hooked. I've built up a pretty big collection of characters that just look pretty cool rather than ones I have any nostalgic notions for. I think the figures are just fun and the techno-barbarian swords-and-lasers aspects of it are just cool.
I really think if Mattel unshackled themselves from Nostalgia and put out something at retail they could have another hit.

And yeah I'm in complete agreement with you, those things were around forever. They still sell for around $600 so less than double original cost, which is fine for a late tax.

Yeah, they need to learn from Playmates TMNT, only *having better aesthetic (Playmates sculpt of elongated characters is beyond awful plus their miserliness paint) and equal standard of articulation to all figures, and most importantly aimed it at KIDS like they do with JW and not trying to appease shit taste adult collectors with lame playline and giving kids crappy toys like they do with all of their other toylines.

*Make sure the character designs aren't complete and utter trash like Nu-Ra and instead go something in lines of 2002 He-Man

Hopefully, if they were designing them as toys first they'd be more able to avoid Nu-Ra's design philosophy because they wouldn't need to worry about making it easier to animate.

Its because toy companies have no vision anymore and have stupid assumptions on children tastes, hence the cheapskate bland toys.

Toys in the 80'-early 2000's (before Hasbro and Mattel bought everyone) had unique designs and used adult characters, no cutesy/kiddy/teenager shit.
