This was the first set I remembered owning so I thought I'd try doing a remake of it. Haven't really made any spaceships before but I think it turned out alright.

i have come to terms with the fact that I don't have the creativity and know-how yet to make an entirely original moc from the baseplate up so to speak and so now I am going to re-focus on modding particular sets that I own. Mine is this. I just could not resist it - it's so damn cool and i doubt we getting another anubis any time soon.
Lego had only 2 Anubis minifigs in one big expensive set back in early 00s

Oh man I've been browsing bricklink for the first time and I randomly found a set that DEFINED my childhood spent with Lego, and I completely forgot I even owned it, to the point that I thought some pieces from it I remembered must have come from some space set. It wasn't the biggest set I had but it was the coolest:
>sleek streamlined appearance
>mostly black build for maximum edge(I fucking loved this shit as a kid)
>cool pieces like the turbines, rotors, cool long windshield, rear fin
Pieces from this set formed a base for so many jet/helicopter/spaceship/submarine builds I did as a kid, damn.

Seriously tempted to buy it right now, it's not even expensive, but I already spent too much on Lego for a while. Man, what a blast from the past.

Even with all the Overwatch-related autism from last thread I'm gonna give my thoughts on Dorado Showdown.

Pros
>400+ parts for $30 puts it at a good parts to price ratio, and the pieces included are actually useful
>Includes a bunch of each variety of the 1x1 bracket plates (8 Regular and 10 Inverted)
>includes EIGHTEEN of those 5-plate tall bricks with studs on the side in light gray and two of those travis bricks with only two studs on the sides in black
>Lots of radar dishes too
>Besides SNOT stuff there's also a bunch of useful dark red and light orange pieces from the Truck
>Speaking of the truck it's actually got wheels on the bottom (The small train wheels) instead of just having some clear bricks keep it in the air. The Truck build could pass on a City shelf after a few quick mods
>The minifig prints for Reaper, S76 and McCree look cool, 76's especially
>Shrugging Reyes spray is a 10/10 sticker

Cons
>The brick-built guns are honestly too unwieldly, Reaper can't stand up if you have him hold his shotguns straight forward
>Fruit stand feels like an afterthought, would've rather had the fountain from the same area of the map.
>Lack of an actual roof on the archway is a bummer

Not gonna lie but this is probably the best Overwatch set from the first wave asides from Bastion. I'd recommend this set even if you don't play Overwatch.

I agree with this - im getting it tomorrow.
It's basically your starter pack-set that you will complete soon with making your teams.

You have both - attackers and defenders. Attackers will be put on a payload and defenders will be in that arc-thing. You can actually play pretending that you doing stuff you would do in a videogame.

There is no overwatch set that allows you to create a whole gaming experience other than Dorado.

i agree but i wanted a SW-walker mech to use it as a base for a non-traditional mech.
All my mechs look like robo-humans.
But i always wanted a "Chicken Legs" mech and grey SW-mech is basically a base for that MOC.
But yeah...it's waaay too expensive to just buy it for moc-ing.

offtop: i kind of liked Rogue One because it's the only SW-movie that simply shows how star wars world works. How machines work. It shows random people and a simple story instead of fucked epic story with overdone characters we knew for more than 30 years

PS:
The worst store i seen was one really autistic one - it had some weird rules - if X is cheaper than xxx-price then you have to buy XXXX-of X.
Which means you can't buy 1 head for your minifig-project. Or just 1 torso or 1 legs. You will need to buy 5 heads or 10 legs or something like that which is just ridiculous.

How important is the plate at the entrance like that? Because the easiest thing to do looks like just making the drawbridge go right up to the gate, so I assume there's some reason you can't do that.

best looking would be if you could combine the two brown plates and make the seam being created by the angle at the end of the bridge, but I can't see enough of the construction to see how one could do that.

Seconding this. Did they do this with the first Lego Movie too? For me, that movie came pretty much out of the blue - I hadn't even seen any trailers of it - and it's probably a big part why I loved it so much.

But now, I've been browsing this general and seeing all the new TLM2 sets, so it feels like there can't be many surprises left for me to experience in the theaters? And I kinda hate that.

TLM1 worked because there wasn't really anything like it out there and ended up as a surprise hit.
By the time Ninjago came around the novelty wore off and there's only so much selfaware humor and daddy-issues you can do until it gets stale and the whole movie was basically the cynical cashgrab that people expected TLM1 to be before it came out.
The trailers for TLM2 honestly didn't do much for me and while it will definitely be a competently made movie they'll probably not gonna catch lightning in a bottle (ever) again.

As for the sets, I fear that the whole "girls vs boys" theme that's going on will actually somewhat backfire in multiple ways.
Yes, stuff like the party bus will find its buyers but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the sets will end up on clearance due to the lack of universal appeal that most of the TLM1 sets had.

The actual cartoon designs are kinda hit-or-miss for me but I love the Mixels themselves a lot. Few months ago I went back and got (the parts for) the last series+Skulzy that I'd missed towards the butt end of the theme's life. Love these little shits, definitely one of my favorite themes. Wish the theme had lasted longer (maybe long enough to be incorporated into TLM or something, that would have been fun), though on the other hand having eighty of these is already borderline unmanageable.

I came out of my darkages in like 2014 or something around then, I vaguely remember like one series of mixels being in stores and then they were discontinued :( I didn't like the series that was in stores sadly. The ones I loved though that I remember were the pirate-y ones (the treasure chest was so cool), the medical ones, and the trash ones.

I really miss them a lot now.

Just got the new Creator robot along with Benny's Space Squad. Kenny here sits kind of loose in the robot right now, so I think I'll need to replace the 4m axle that holds the torso together with a 3m version.

HF minifigs were interesting. I like how they looked more actiony than cute, with their molded details and longer limbs. They look like they mean business. Though they do look kinda awkward next to regular minifigs. Their limbs are thin and they are taller, where the Heroes have traditionally been the little guys. Plus their wrists can't rotate. Their heads are totally kickass though. Heaps better than printed faces. Can someone post a pic of a HF minifig with it's corresponding Toa head on?

I think you're right. I mean - faces looked good even when the Pirates line introduced new ones in the 90s. Modern faces feel odd somehow - like they've dipped into that uncanny valley and just don't do it for me.

It's not recommended. Ideally, you put a set together, take it apart, and then put it back together. Otherwise the pieces can get overstressed from going from virgin to permanently filled (no joke, it's a thing with plastics). They PROBABLY won't get any cracked pieces, but the chance is lessened if you use the piece a few times to stretch it out.

you should add road plates and extend the side walk out to the road, it's a small detail and an expensive mod, but it such a nice touch and gives you lots more room for things like benches, bus stops, street vendors/performers.

It has become a pretty common occurance in recent years.

I personally have tons of models that are just on display most of the time and whenever I take one apart for mocing I quite often notice cracks on one stud wide plates and bricks, clips and minifig arms/heels along with other parts where I have no fucking clue how they can even crack in the first place like the radar dishes on the mining pod of the Knowhere Escape set.

The most infamous example I remember was a Friends car that some dad bought for his daughter for Christmas and the thing more or less disintegrated over time - see pic.

Honestly pretty underwhelming, considering the idea was to produce actual high quality mocs from afols these are all quite simple. What I wouldn't have given for a set designed by Jon Hall or some of those crazy detailed castles (the "castle" set is the most disappointing one I think)

yeah, those two and the lego production process are the only ones I actually consider good
the map is too busy, the hover train too boring, the carnival stand is fine I guess, I don't know if there's anyone who wants the 3D mosaic and the castle is just bad. The way the trees are attached is pretty amateurish and the plants and rock just don't look natural. Imagine something like this, but built by fullplate. That's something I would pay money for

I decided to try recreating one of the mocs I did mostly with the parts from this set when I was a kid, and edgy all black stealth micro jet/spaceship thingy(don't ask me how turbines work in space I was a kid okay).

Turned out a lot less cool than in my memories, but I'm still happy with how many of the parts I remembered, I think only the very top layer is different as I doubt I had two of those wedge slope pieces. Sorry if the image isn't great, it's my first time using any of the Lego 3D software.

This one has to have been designed as a parts pack. It's over-detailed but has some raw potential if the layout was a bit better. I feel that potentially combining two of this set would allow for a better experience.

Not trying to shill the Clovershire Castle, but i do think it has potential, but perhaps more so a a 'lantern festival' moc with a nice pathway and a bridge over water with trees alongside rather than a castle.

Alright so I was very enthralled by anon's dream description and accompanying drawings, and the mocs the other anons posted, and it got me thinking about some possible ideas for this setting. Greentext ideas as follows:

Maybe too big to be considered a squad, but this is the crew for which I have been trying and failing to build a ship for some time now. Everything is from the 2015 Pirates line, with some minifig parts swapped around to create a sense of order.

The three columns to the left each consist of a bluecoat officer, two veterans and three conscripts. They make up the fighting force of the ship. The one wearing a hat is the captain of the ship, the one in the wig is a nobleman, aspiring politician and his second-in-command, whereas the third officer started out as a lowly conscript and has risen through the ranks quickly through merit alone. The three columns to the right are mostly noncombatants. The lad in the green shirt is the younger brother of the nobleman, technically on the crew to learn, but he's more of a spoiled brat and a waste of space than anything else. The two pirate captains who complete the front row are reformed pirates, and their knowledge is put to use here much like IT companies have been known to hire hackers. Behind the green lad, you have the cook, who can make vaguely edible and surprisingly nutritious food from almost nothing. To his side are two local fishermen who much like the pirate captains have been hired for their useful knowledge and skills. Rounding out the crew are a dozen seamen, who do work around the ship.

No, but he did create a flexpoint right at that center area, thus in effect using the studs as a pry tool to 'widen' those bricks from their weakest inside point. I recreated the same effect on accident, though to be fair it was a brown brick, and I was being impatient.
