Can someone explain how Rex Dangervest ends up being the bad guy? In all his sets he seems to be allied with emmet. Is emmet a bad guy too?

So, I've finished the last mech in my project, which is Zane's. I used the original studshooter as inspiration on the body to make him big cannons on the side of its head like a Guncannon. The most important point for me was to downscale it to more or less the same scale as the other while keeping the complete mech feel the original had, with the head and everything, which meant having the figure fit inside the body entirely.

This one was a bit different since I don't have the original set so I only worked from the LDD model I've made. At first I wanted to get rid of the blades on the arms since I want the discs on the shoulder to be the primary blade weapon (which detatch and fit into the hands) but I kept them anyway, since I can remove them easily if they don't work well IRL.

The middle head is an official Lego head; the left head is a third-party head that was produced and sold as replacements because Lego doesn't put down a white primer before printing on dark pieces, so the printing always looks bad.

So one of the stingy local op shops marks up old Lego lots 1000%. Father and I bought a very expensive lot of Lego, probably paid it's top value but it's fun to sort, resell and keep minifigures from it.
Now the last lot had a large number of gray panels and two Imperial Guard heads. That and a rather rare technic joint indicated it was part of the Star Destroyer.
Fast forward a few months and while I'm on holiday I get an email from Dad saying he bought me another big bulk lot from the same op shop. Sends me a photo of a black R2D2 and straight away I guess it's the other half of the shit I already sold off. Then I see a photo of the escape pod the minifigure is inside.

Thanks, and yeah, I try to only use legal connections, but I had no better idea on how to make the cannon elongate other than using a bar and that was just too thin. (I thought about using the rod from pic related, but that would have been incredibly tight)

To bring this into perspective on why these bricklink resellers have no idea how markets work. You could be one of 6 people to list this set for about 100 and after 6 yes 6 fucking months you could still not have a sale. Thats six months of opportunity cost actually cost you more than if you were to list it for a much cheaper price. And the longer you wait the more the opportunity cost starts to increase. These people literally do not even understand how markets or sales work they just look at this bricklink sale page see 2 or 3 people sold it for this outrageous price the last six months and suddenly they think they are sitting on the next best investment.

Lego is not a fucking investment. There is no liquidity and no buyers.

One of those 'Classic' boxes of basic bricks, but only in really boring colors. Brown, light gray, greens etc.

I really wish Lego's PAB wall would carry more 1x4 and 1x6 bricks. All they ever seem to have is 2x4 and 2x6. I recently stocked up with 70 white 2x4 bricks (among other things) because as you said the prices are annoyingly high and quantities are sometimes hard to find in a single store.

China to home competitors like lepin and enlightened. They are also dropping employes and using cheaper material to help boost profit margins since they dropped off after 2016ish and never recovered

A lot of people forget companies have debt even some of the most profitable companies have debt like Apple, Microsoft, etc.

At the start of the graph 2003 Lego made some money yes but they also had 800 million in debt. When revenue goes up they still have debt but they forward guide for more growth and hire new workers, restructure, and take out even more debt since they are getting increasing sales and revenue. When revenue goes down suddenly all those changes have to be reveresed as they are making less money, sales down, and they still have to pay their debts and the new debt they took on when they were growing.

Hello, thank you for your blog post explaining how you don't understand the buying and selling of goods. They have a discontinued product that there will never be more NIB sets made, but will be consumed. If they are comfortable listing it for more than you consider it worth that is their decision. They may not be motivated to sell NOW because they aren't investors (or at least good ones) that mind the capital being tied up. Their hope may be that supply whittles down as other people get low balled and they suddenly have one of the handful of NIB sets years after release. It is a collector's item and they enjoy having it collected, but will sell it if you over pay.

If you message them they might be willing to lower their price, especially if you provide evidence to support your opinion of the worth of that set. Complaining about people being irrational on the internet just isn't rational, and I, for one, would like to issue a complaint.

You know Lego literally made thousands of Spongebob sets not just 100 they had to supply ToysRus back when they operated in the US.

Once again there are plenty of boxed spongebob sets still released. No one really cares the theme stopped selling around 2012 and sales weren’t great for the theme.

Once again 4 sales in half a year no one is interested in most sets these (( RESELLERS )) have to offer. Lego isn’t an investment and there is no liquidity to support multiple sellers or the sale price. Its literally people trying to sell overpriced toys for x4 their value and crossing their fingers they are the 6 people this year who get the sale.

They would of made more money if they bought the s&p500 and set it to reinvest the dividends. But instead they hold onto these Lego sets for years lose money in opportunity cost and can’t even liquidate

You are speaking of implied value as something that has been accumulated and appreciated and that is wrong. Look at the antique and collector market for Motorcycles, Antique Cars, and even train toys that were invested and collected by the boomer generation. Those markets shrunk and theres hardly any sales because people arent interested. Suddenly all the implied value dissapeared because hardly anyone from the millineial generation and onwards are interested in that junk. Prices drop to the point where the new gen is just goina bin them in the dump when they inherit their parents house. Same thing is starting to happen to the Lego (( Resellers )) and even Funko Pop but they are too oblivious to see forward

Just finished my Old Fishing Store and it's probably one of my favorite modulars of all time (I even got this ship-in-a-bottle piece on Bricklink just for the occasion), any have any ideas for a good older style fishing boat to add to this thing?

Yeah, it happens every time we get a new Lego movie. The overall tone of the thread was completely different prior to 2014.

Eventually most of the hangers-on who came here because of TLM2 will get bored and stop posting.

I do agree the more substantial a build is the more attention it will get and that some subjects are more popular than others. Houses and intricate vehicles and giant built characters seem to be the most popular, then followed by figures, then trains, then technic etc.

So I'm probably the last one here to see THE LEGO MOVIE 2, but I finally went and saw it today. And I must say I was a little disappointed. The first one had a nice idea and I loved the execution. I felt it was "grounded", despite all the whimsy. And obviously the theme song was catchy as hell. The Batman Movie was also great. But this new one... the story was all over the place, I didn't like the new song, and I hated the pacing. It was like a never-ending mishmash of random action scenes, without any real heart or emotion?

I did my best to avoid trailers, but this thread (and the new sets) had me spoiled on a lot of things, which also didn't help. (And speaking of new sets, I was surprised that more time wasn't spent in the apocalypse world. Or that the popup party bus wasn't featured more closely. And did we ever even see Benny's squad??)

Watching this movie back to back with Wreck-it Ralph 2 was really weird, because both movies have a lot in common. (Both even refer to Fortnite, FFS.) But I liked Ralph a lot better, eventho I was expecting it to be the other way around...

So what's the consensus here on TLM2? Or should I go re-read earlier generals?

This is something I had read about before seeing the movie, so I was on the lookout for it, but I actually didn't find anything so "woke" about? In fact, you might say the opposite is true, because the girl likes to play out a wedding scene, which is very traditional and not "progressive" at all.

Still, the message (if there even was one) was very muddled. And I feel like I might not be getting most of the sets after all, despite already eyeing some on the shelf.

It was alright, not as good as the first one.

I also felt like it was too grounded because of the story - it spent too much time in the human world as a major plot point and not just to underline the theme. Because it's about Emmet and Lucy's relationship, but mostly the brother and sister, and also the mom, and also... the central lego characters get kinda lost.

On top of that, we spend most of our time in a couple worlds compared to the last movie.

The first lego movie had a ton of lego cameos, plus we got to see multiple types of city/police stuff, space stuff, evil lair stuff, could-cuckoo land stuff, castle stuff, pirate stuff, cowboy stuff, and mishmash stuff.

While I enjoyed the mixing in of fabuland figs, the new movie only really spends minimal time in apocalypseburg, a few minutes in a plant planet, most of it in the glitter cloud-cuckooland 2, and a lot of time with the human characters in a house.

It also spent a lot of time being a musical, which, it really didn't need. Having said that, the song about how lame men from Gotham are and how Superman is cooler got me.

No, the Ninjago one is a bit rushed and as far as I've heard, regarded to be the weakest of the movies.

Lego Batman is phenomenal, though, I'd like to think because it never metas the meta - while the toys are aware of fourth-wall-breaking and toy-related rules, you never see the humans.

I think dropping the meta narrative is a good idea. It works for the first Lego movie, because it pays off the childlike logic that whole movie has been operating on. There's no need to include more live action sequences, because you've already establiahed there's a kid's imagination fueling the stories in the franchise. I haven't yet seen Lego Movie 2, but the live action bookends are by far the weakest parts of the Lego Ninjago Movie.

Worst thing about those in the Ninjago movie is that they feel like they got added later during production after a rewrite so they can cash in on Jackie Chan's inclusion in the cast.
The movie and all the real life objects and environments make so much more sense if you consider that it's actually about Finn playing with his Ninjago sets in the backyard garden and the (neighbor's?) cat ruining his shit.
In the Making Of book it's even stated that Ninjago is in its own little world that isn't aware of any civilisations beyond the island - because it's outside, far away from the family's main Lego collection.
There also aren't any pages about the live action filming in it and Chan is just noted as voice actor.

I think it’s kind of evil to include Ginsburg in this movie, especially considering her involvement with the abortion debate. Allegedly her character exist in the movie of a 5 year old girl. Tried a little redesign, make it a little more modern and utilitarian. Lengthened the fuselage a bit, and added an opening cockpit. Not final, as I'm still tinkering with it, but this is it'a progress.

I really do need more light grey plates.

Pretty good, but I do prefer your first version. The studded surface helped with the classic feel, the tiles make it look a little messy. If you really want a smoothed surface, you'd have to go full on SNOT and construct it with angled bricks instead of plates

Yeah, I was wondering about that, the tiles are a sort of "Let's give this a try". I am considering a snot space build, though. I must admit, I am fond of the double plate layer, though. Might do that, keep it studded, and just bulk the model out a bit.

I think the next MOC is going to be a freighter, though. Make it a high nose, low belly (cargo hold) type vessel.

We literally NEVER had an argument about whose was what and you destroyed my proud build etc etc. Every time we were building shit and needed a part that was only in the other kids moc we'd ask if it was ok. We didn't hoard the entire bin like a faggot either.

Maybe i misremember stuff about my brother but he was 7 years older than me so it could've been we missed out on the age of lego interested a bit for it to be a problem. (or he was master trickster to funnel parts away from me) We both got our own 'personal' lego sets too, yet they eventually liquidated without interpersonal conflict.
Are my friends and family weird?

Kinda interested to see the movie, despite not being a comic guy i enjoyed the Batman one the most. Mostly excited to see some fucking Fabuland stuff in there.

If it makes you feel better Rex was both the problem and the solution. Shit still went down in the original timeline and it fucked Emmet up, left him bitter and dark, but without also being super rich to make it kinda better. He changes things and sure makes them worse but the difference in the timeline also allowed for a far better reconciliation between brother and sister and reunification of all the pieces into one big happy sappy family. Yeah, I got off the Lego boat a couple years ago and got back into model trains for my autism. I'm in a club and all that fun shit.

I need your guys' help, because I remember seeing posts about this kind of shit when I lurked all the time. This isn't lego, specifically, but this is the only place I could think that deals with this kind of shit.

I just bought a 40-year-old American Freedom Train set that is hard as fuck to find for sale. Like, it's legit desirable. My concern here is that the cars are molded white plastic with red and blue stripes painted on. The white plastic has obviously aged and undergone some color staining as a result, so now it's a vaguely off-white/yellow blend that looks very off compared to the white paint on the locomotive. Is there anything I can do to brighten this shit up?

Also what's the product suggested for lego "glass" pieces like windshields? The windows on this exhibit car are kinda hazy and I'd like to fix that.

I'll post a bunch of lego train shit to make up for my off-topic pic.

I used Pledge Floor Care Multi Surface Finish, there are probably others that'll do the same thing. It worked really well. Dip the part, shake off excess, then leave it to dry overnight.

Yes. Buy a few bottles of this (you can usually find it in a pharmacy) and wait for summer. Get a glass or clear plastic container that's big enough to submerge the piece in, then submerge it in the hydrogen peroxide and leave it in direct sunlight for a couple of hours. Be sure to stir it every few minutes to knock off all the air bubbles that will form on the surface of the pieces. You will want to wear rubber gloves or use a stirring stick because dunking your hand in the liquid will make your skin shrivel a bit.

If possible, disassemble the cars before soaking them, so you can maximize your time.

This will cause the flame-retardant molecules on the surface of the pieces to re-whiten themselves. Eventually they will yellow again in a decade or two. Sunlight might cause fading of the painted pieces, but it shouldn't be too bad.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. Might want to test it with a piece you don't care about first. I use that method to re-whiten Lego pieces, but I've never tried it with a painted toy.

I remember a long time ago searching for star wars lego I stumbled across a sort of blog site where this guy apparently recreated entire scenes of the original trilogy using only unlicensed parts. Dude made his own Vader, Jabba, R2D2 and a whole bunch of things from Castle, Space and various other sets. I noticed that too, I guess some parts might be made in a different part of the factory or a different factory altogether and maybe they were packaged differently so that nothing gets lost during transport

Now that we have miniaturized batteries, it's a lot more feasible. You would just need a transparent head with a light inside that's got printing over the entire surface except the eyes. I'm surprised china hasn't produced a minifig head that lights up yet.

It's definitely possible. Years back we had pic related, where the light lit up when you pressed down on the head (also used for SW). Making the eyes light up instead of the hand would be easy, especially with a "helmet" wearing character

Feels like a $20 set to me also, but with 312 parts even at $25 it would be like 8¢ per part which is really low. It looks like it has a ton of smaller parts but that fucking unikitty tail probably costs a fair amount to make, and sweet mayhem with all the dual molding and iridescent hair piece.

I would buy it for $20 without unikitty and sweet mayhem, so maybe I'll grab it on discount if I don't have too many sweet mayhems by then. This really sucks for anyone that wanted to have both a couch and a mech, or to custom a sextuple-decker couch.

I'm not super impressed with wave 2 so far, but see a few sets that might be neat on discount.

I made a guide for this a couple threads back.

If you know the set number, you can look it up on Brickset and get the element number, then go to Lego's replacement page (or call them directly if the part is listed as "out of stock" online) and order up to 200 of each piece individually.

Element number is the mold itself

Design number is the specific color of that mold

It only includes that chick's wig. It is absolutely not a place to snag 200 sewer babies or even 1. They aren't even OUT OF STOCK they're just not even listed. Maybe customer service can help you out but using the website is a waste of time.

Typically Lego doesn't allow B&P for most unique pieces from a set until around a month after release, but those are for OUT OF STOCK notices which are usually automatic the moment a set is released. I assume they do this to ensure a handy supply of legit replacement requests that early on but that's just a guess.

Obviously, since none of the parts are listed on Brickset yet, they're not going to be on Lego's website yet. If you wait a month and then look up the set number on Brickset after it's inventoried, you will be able to find the specific design number of each sewer baby element.

I've used this method several times with other pieces that only appear in one set.

You don't need to bother with brickset at all, and you certainly don't need to wait a month. Follow your own guide only this time try replacement or missing. That'll get you the information even if you can't buy it through this means (though I suppose you could pretend that you had defects in yours and demand replacements).

Now I have run into sets where certain parts aren't listed under broken or missing pieces, but I believe that was an oversight. If it's a part in the set you should definitely be able to request it this way, which means they'll have the element and design numbers.

Of course you can't buy it this way but at least you have the info to take to customer service. You might just get lucky since they often have more options on parts otherwise not available on the website. If this were licensed you'd probably be shit out of luck since there are certain limits and restrictions but since this set is not maybe, just maybe, you'll hit paydirt. I don't think it has been clarified, but considering the models had to be designed irl to be entered (I think so anyway) I can only assume it's some kind of print with either the model name or just the bricklink promotion.
i'd love to know if anyone has heard about customs as well, I'm eyeing the saloon and castle

They started out identical other than the colours because I was sperging about standardisation due to how the racing format works, but I was convinced to customise them and it's definitely an improvement.

Still fucking hate working around WeDo controllers though, whichever part designer thought they needed a 1x4 technic beam glued to each side should have been shot.

There are some molds that never make it to B&P, and I wouldn't be too optimistic about the vampire hair in that regard. And even if it were to be available there, it'd probably total out closer to five dollars, though that'd still be a great deal.
