I hope Hidden Side will continue for some waves.
I can see a second ghost wave with boss ghosts and then I can see the theme moving to other monsters that are hidden in our world. Imagine aliens that have their flying saucer hidden in a fast food. Or vampires,zombies,werewolves,etc.
The theme has great potential. And paranormal is very popular right now!

Finn (Emmett) having a split personality (Rex) created the Rexcelsior and he's been trying to be more like his tougher split personality that was created when his sister rejected his peace offering ages ago and destroyed his Lego in an event that traumatised him till his teenage years - including stealing multiples times from him and destroying his stuff.

the whole thing doesn't make sense. Supposedly everything live action actually happens in the real world.
In the first movie minifigs could move. Fine, whatever, deus ex machina, Emmet was so strong willed that he was able to waggle a bit.
Now minifigs can fight and sing in real life and even worse build a functioning time travelling spaceship out of ordinary Lego bricks. You really can't think too critically about this film without the whole plot and world falling apart

I'd be all for it if Hidden Side went that route. I could easily see that last 3 years of two waves each year. Would fit with Lego's theme philosophy, unless it isn't popular (which I can't imagine this theme doing poorly).
I really hope Lego pushes this one. We need a good in-house theme aside from Ninjago. Nexo, Chima, and Bionicle all were cut down too soon, so here's hoping they don't give up on this one.

Continuing on from >>7400452, missed your post. I would LOVE to get the new train and put it with the MF ghost train, but maybe on clearance. Otherwise I think I'll definitely get the graveyard, maybe the lab or diner on top of that. Hoping there's a polybag or two, maybe a promotional set at some point.

For future waves though, what kinds of sets would people like to see as well? I'm thinking a carnival setting for one set, maybe a few more city locations like a gas station/convenience store. There's a ton of potential here they could tap into

Personally the main turn off for these sets are the two main characters and the mobile app concept - it removes the focus and likely adds to the cost of the sets.

A cornfield with a shack that can "explode" and a pumpkin monster with vine tentacles pops up. Also with a scarecrow that gets possessed.

Can't say I was a massive fan, but I'm a whore for model shots. I thought the characters were needlessly messed about with, and there was some pointless diversity shit, too. Beyond that, it was kinda meh. I dropped it quickly.

I liked some of the redesigns of the ships, though. Even TB2, despite the reduced lifting body design, it was nice. The original would have actually flown, if you had powerful enough engines.

Overall, it was meh. I thought they could have actually made the ships, to go with the model sets, but who am I to bitch?

Would like a Lego rendition of some of the TB ships, but that is a pipe dream. And the shapes would be a fucker to capture, too.

I used to work for a company that made resin statues of the Anderson shows, and they had some of the kits laying around. Kinda wish I spirited them away, when I had the chance.

Did any of you learn Greek mythology in middle school? I remember it fondly. It would work as a theme. Minotaurs, cyclops, Medusa, the Trojan horse, boats, chariots, the Pantheon. I don't know if the current gen of kids would like it, but I think they'd be familiar.

Okay hypothetical scenario. Lets say the app didn't exist and no said anything about no physical ghosts only spookified towns folk, but the sets were exactly the same. I don't think as many people would complain and so following n from that I don't really get why people are upset by that, I mean we do get a new ghost dog and a lot of new parts and prints to spookify the towns folk with.

That said, using the AR to find invisible ghost is the best possible app integration I for a lego set that I can think of. This is truly a splendid Idea.

As long as the app can easily be ignored, then why should anyone care? Yeah, I think it's stupid, I'll never ever use it, but I'm not the target audience. The sets still look great, and if you weren't told, then the only hint you would have that they have something to do with the app is that the zoomer minifigs have their phones in every set.

Yes,but the app worked without sets. This new app isn't going to work without the sets from what I know. You have to own the sets to play the game. And no,there is no proce because of the AR stuff.

Well when they actually do print on the bricks, it's vastly superior. Like the pop up Once Upon a Brick set has a 16x6 printed flat panel and two 1x6 printed flat panels.

Now my fishing boat from back in the day, the one that floats , the racing stripes on the boat curled up and peeled over time.
The space sets that had the space logo printed on the bricks? They're still there.

T-Mechs looks like a good build, but between those colors, the prints/stickers, and the micro scale volcano of uninteresting bricks in that set, I will look at the instructions and try to build my own or maybe brick link parts if I'm close to having the parts in a not black/grey color scheme. He’s no more of a villain than Pres. Business. Because of his experiences, he just has a different idea of what things should be like.

Also, Rex disappears because his entire existence is based on Emmet becoming him. When Emmet chose a different path, Rex would no longer happen. (Especially after his time travel device was destroyed.) The raptors are still around because Rex didn’t make them, he just went back in time and picked them up.

Even though Rex disappears, the actions he took still had to happen, otherwise they would’ve erased the entire movie and the story would be pointless. It’s a bit wonky with its temporal mechanics, but I don’t mind because there’s nothing worse than a cop out “it was all a dream” type ending to a story.

Watch both MandR and Just2good after. They talk about the minifigs, the build, even compare it to its predecessor. Never once complain the set is a “toy” and that people should just bricklink all the minifigures

The new Hidden Side sets are sort of interesting, i'm a bit of a spooky halloweenfag, in general i like neon coloured hair, youthculture stuff, i like the ghostbusters toys transform gimmicks. (the chompy train looks neat)
But i'm just not really into the characterdesigns, they feel kinda odd. To put it the best i can, they look very much like the drawings of that conceptartist for the cmf line and chima/nexo. Very 'french' and quirky, lots of organic and generally 'unlego-ey' molds and very busy prints. Now i love oddball stuff but it feels a bit grating to me somehow here. The scientist with the pink hair reminds me of that latest ghostbusters character that i had the same reaction too. Very look at us being the hip and subversive cool character with not a lot of actual selfawareness wich makes it lose endearingness to me. Also referencing older tropes of movies and stuff in the way hotline miami did it, kind of loud charicature with little subtlety .
Man i feel like a sour gramps typing this.
Oh and all the hats are way too big!

I am surprised to see the old Johnny thunder two-seater buck too. That piece sparked my imagination for all the cars i built post-darkage. I even just got a black one in the mail from briclink! (kinda want to make a car inspired by Hoonigans Scumbag Steve's deathbucket ratrod, i like how terrifying yet cute that thing looks)

Than you have 3 main characters which will appear too much in many sets. They seem to be hard to customize to be different characters. How many times you heard someone saying that they have character XY again? I heard that alot.

Did you ever use any Lego apps?
Its mostly fun for a short while. Besides Nexo with being more interwoven, you didnt needed both. It wasnt any extra feature and the hunt for the shields were fun but the game itself was lasting too short. So in the end everyone tended to visit sites with all shields.
It seems the toyys to life hype is gone. Kids realized that it cost too much money and its too quick gone or dead.

Finished my new guy, for now called Voyager (partly because of his alt mode and partly because he's kind of the next size class to my other stuff).
Pretty happy with this one, it's the first one where I sort of planned the transformation beforehand and because of that the plane mode turned out really clean and stable.

i agree with the character designs. They feel very surface level and its obvious that they are designed for a tv series. They tried to have some self insert for kids, but look like they will be bland and not so complex like Ninjago characters. And Ninjago characters are rather very stereotype still they are much more compelling as minis than these.

Starcom would be an interesting evolution of the Space line. I watched that show on Sunday mornings when I was young along with "Hey Vern, It's Ernest." I think there were other shows on that lineup but I can't remember anymore. Crazy thing was I never knew Starcom was toy line, only ever saw the show. What really drew me into the show right off the bat was the whole thing with those strange simple lifeforms on Jupiter. Just a day earlier I had seen a PBS special about the Outer Planets and they talked about what form scientist theorized life might take if it managed to evolve in a gas giant.

Nope, transforms without partsforming (except for the weapons and effects of course).
Kind of hard to explain, but pic related should help (I took one side with wing off).
The legs fold together at the knee, so the knees are in the back as the exhaust and the feet now touch the pelvis area.

The top of the plane will become the chest, the cockpit rotates around 180 degrees and then folds on the chest revealing the head. The arms are hidden under the wings

He says that, when ever large amounts of people pop up and complain about how a set has too many play features or is too childish. All he's doing is reminding these people that it is a toy, first and foremost, not a high-end model kit.

At no point did he say he's not recommending it because it's not for collectors. He said

He does praise the designer, saying that they've done an amazing job, despite being given what he believed to be an impossible task (balancing build and structural integrity, with screen accuracy and play-ability).

It's only loose in the sense that it can wiggle from side to side a little bit because the head doesn't pin it down completely.

I’ve been working on a minifig set for the main characters from Journey to the West, and here’s what I have so far for Sun Wukong the Monkey King!!

His cloud is a little blocky, but I’m working with what I have, and I think it’s kinda cute!

I’m looking for a better headpiece since I think it would look better with short hair, and also the hairpiece is so long that it kinda fucks with the tail... but I still need a headband/crown to be represented so how. Oh well! I’m happy with it for now!

Good idea to spray my lego set I bought used with fabreeze? I took an old toothbrush and washed off some stains or dirt I saw under the light but don't want to dissemble it completely since it is well over a thousand pieces and sitting nicely on my shelf.

This is where I have to disagree. I find old Lego to have a very appealing look.
As far as I understood (or at least this holds true to me) the appeal of Lego is that it is Lego.
It's something from the real world (or a fantasy/sci-fi world) but built with Lego bricks. Because of that it has a certain look and appeal.
I would often go "look how cool that car looks in Lego form" despite the fact that it looked blocky.
I think the whole point of Lego builds is to be Lego versions of things, which to me gives them a certain amount of charm and a lot of originality.

I personally dislike the direction they've taken with a lot of modern stuff. I do not believe Lego should be scale models. I do not think they should aim so much for accuracy to the source material (real or imaginary).

If I wanted a realistic fighter jet I would buy a toy that is realistic in its design. I buy a Lego toy for that particular Lego feel.

I also believe that the use of specialized pieces and more complex building techniques ( necessary for the high-fidelity models of today) are taking away from the "break it down and build something else" experience that was so common in my youth.
Bricks on top of plates might look bad or blocky, but it is easy to do and accessible to children.
