I saw this Mafex version recently but know nothing about the company. Thoughts? What is your favorite Alien figure and why?

Mafex is fine for general figures like this, the more dynamic stuff or anything with fabric can be hit or miss, namely on face sculpts. Honestly I like the really over detailed figma version. I picked it up for $75 and should be here tomorrow or friday. Wont be able to say much about it.

My best friend loves Alien but he is hamhands incarnate.
Would Mafex be a good pick for a gift or I should stick to the rare "good" Neca?

ehhhhhhhhh if it's a used NECA sure, then you will know if the joints are okay. Getting him a new one the joints may be painted stuck or something and next thing you know it has no limbs at all. Mafex joints can be fragile. Honestly if he ham hands shit I'd get him a figma or revoltech one - the joints come apart on those purposefully and are harder to straight up break.

Seconding the Revoltech recommendation. That thing is sturdy as hell by Japanese figure standards, and looks pretty decent to boot. The whole thing's cast in translucent plastic that's then painted on top of which gives it this weird aesthetic.
