Wish we didn't have to wait so long to get Brunt and Barricade. Soundwave looks like garbage and Starscream... eh, I'd need to see more of him first. Decepticons feel kinda anemic in Siege. Loving Megatron and Skytread, though.

I know that his legs collapse in, and rotate to the inside for his command tower, but I'm curious how they collapse in. Is it like combiner limbs that split open and have a hinge?
Also, his shoulder pads/side thrusters/extra arms. On the back, there's a cylindrical cutout. Is there a reason for that?

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking in your second question, but all of the Siege figures have multiple 5mm holes all over for interchangeable weapons, including some ports on their backs.

What would you do to make Siege Soundwave's vehicle mode less shit? It's apparent they arrived on this form by designing out from the robot form that they need to keep looking as G1 as possible. So all those big blocky design elements that used to translate into basically a box shape have to stay and you need to turn that into a suitable vehicle.
I think what might have worked better would have been to take the mass of the figure and fold it out into a deck like an aircraft carrier, a design that is fairly easily justifiable to function as a flight mode while still being blocky and non-aerodynamic. This might be a more suitable idea for a larger classed figure but it could still probably function well with micromasters like he's already associated with and I just realised 'deck' makes for a pretty good wordplay reference to his G1 alt mode.

I think the original alt mode was something else
there are tabs on his torso for the nacells to snap on. Nothing else snaps on to it. Clearly the nacelles were originally meant to go on the side. I think maybe he started life as something else (or maybe a pretool for blaster with a different alt mode) and someone realized he made a good soundwave in robot mode and decided to make a different alt mode out of it.

Personally, I'd snap the nacelles to the sides, flip up the arms so they're sticking forward from the middle of the ship, so it looks more like guns.
Maybe flip it upside down and make him a space truck

This mode isn't hugely appealing, but to me it isn't any worse than any of Shockwaves "aircraft" modes either. They've all got that "not very cool but acceptable because it's an alien" shit going on. Besides, like Anon said here >>7416104 he still can be turned into two other modes depending on which G1 homage you want to go with, and even as an ugly ship, it's not like there isn't a precedent for those kind of blocky/flat spaceship designs in science fiction, so I can buy it at the very least even if it's not the most visually badass like a more earth shape jet design.

Gen Whirl maybe. I liked so much about this toy, from his colors to his clear orange canopy to his altmode to his tons of dakka. The only shit part about it was his awful looking legs and feet, but I felt a lot better about it once I flipped them backwards. It made his leg silhouette much better, and I liked the thin "feet" that looked like he was running around on thin, springy pieces of medal, kinda like Aimee Mullins' prosthetics.

Man, reminiscing made me wanna play with him again. Gonna go dig him out.

Yeah, the knees are kind of scary, they're very tight and IIRC ratcheted. I heard a lot of people broke theirs. So I manipulate mine very gently, making sure to support them and not put too much force into them.

Its certainly a nifty figure for its time, the kinda fun bw optimus primal gave me, feature rich, heft from features alone and not tossed in diecast, and while its a shell former they knew what they were doing and added in detail to help disguise its obtrusiveness

Plus this deco is great, unlike the blue guy who's just too blue for me with an unnecessary entitlement complex attached to him being a legends release, only issues I can find are that lack of manual and of course its own wight on its odd feet make it awkward to stand

As for manual storage I keep them in a dividing folder, mine's a bit over filled though so I'll have to buy another soon

You cite the new bay movie looking like g1, but bumblebees robot form is bayformer all over. Dropkick, shatter, and blitzwing are extremely bayformer. A ten minute splash intro doesn't change much of anything.
They aren't bringing back the g1 designs, they're streamlining the transformer robot modes to be more recognizable.

Ginrai never meets the main Autobot force in Masterforce (he does in the manga, but I've never read it). While he does interact with them in Victory, we don't see much of it.

It probably helps that the living Transtector Ginrai from the end of Masterforce is permanently in God Ginrai form in all his appearances, and has a different personality.

And while new additions in canon don't add much, they seem to imply Ginrai spent pretty much all of his time in the G Nebula fighitng off Overlords forces.

At the time of his introduction, galvatron was a city commander, and existed alongside megatron. They later explained it via time travel.

Later content did a lot to improve it, especially legends, but to an American audience that wanted increasingly more science fiction and less fantasy, it didn't sit well.

I was in like my mid to late teens when it started and had grown up with the ass end of G1 and all of G2, which consisted of toys and the original cartoon repackaged with CG intros.

thats why its nuanced. How many fucking "chosen one" stories end up with the character gracefully adapting to being special,and everyone liking them in the end , and they're always making the right decision? Rodimus basically does none of that. He's always trying to get out of being the leader, makes decisions like blowing up a pacifist groups planet, and forcing a near death experience to literally walk into the afterlife and demand answers.

Also, probably wasn't Hasbro's call to write him like that. they probably just wanted him to be the bestest, coolest leader ever. It was the show writers actually wanting to do something different for once. The writers just forgot they were writing to dumb kids to whom this whole thing was lost on.

Transformers hadn't actually died, though. We had the beast era and RiD. Plus there were the dreamwave comics for nostalgiafags.

I like the idea that the Autobots are generally smaller and weaker than the decepticons, so combining with the trailer helps bulk OP up , but its not the body he's most comfortable in because its meant for battle.

Bullshit, RiD was still airing on Fox Kids when Armada premiered. RiD came on a week after BM stopped airing. there was never a period where new media wasn't on the horizon.

All my friends collected Beast Wars, nobody I knew was collecting Beast Machines, or RID. And Armada was a step down from Beast Wars in regards to the toy line and to the tone the cartoons had, which was more serious with Beast Wars. It also doesn't help that it's got it's own canon, so nobody cares about it.

I dunno, I think he'll arrive next month, because there's already people who have Micromasters for wave 2 in the US. Some guy who owns a shop was selling them in a Transformers facebook group I'm in, and had a whole case of them. There's also been loads of overseas sightings of the new Micromasters, with them being found in Australia recently. It's only a matter of time then for the rest of the figures to start showing up.

I think you'll find a huge percentage of the UT fans were children when the series was on the air.

Now, I think some designs and toys from the UT were awesome ( such as Armada Sideways, Energon Galvatron and Scorponok, and Galaxy Force Starscream- fuck the oversized Cybertron one) generally, there were not good series. The voice acting was subpar, with the exception of Garry Chalk and David Kaye.

He then kills Unicron with the Matrix and ends the war between the Autobots and the Decepticons, and then becomes diplomat and more or less President trying to keep the peace, while also trying to adjust to his new role as leader and wondering what Prime would do.

You hate G1 though, so this is lost on you.

All this talk makes me want to say how I never thought anyone wrote Optimus better than the cartoon. I read him in the Marvel comics and in the IDW comics and the Bay movies and never thought they were able to nail the character. The comics especially always wound up making him too unsure of himself and incompetent, it always seemed like an implied trope (uh, tvtropes) that everyone was so in awe of him, when he really didn't seem that awsome a leader.

The cartoon seemed to nail that perfect blend of team dad and hard leader. (they said it was John Wayne mixed with Abe Lincoln) Even when he did wonder if he was making the right call, it didn't seem like he was being a total wishy washy dink. It made sense that this was the guy everyone would ultimately look up to.

I love the Vehicon designs, but I just can't stand the Maximals despite the fact that they looked pretty similar and found myself actively rooting for the Vehicons to stop Cybertron from becoming infested with those things. They took a big chance putting a low tier animator as lead designer and it fucked them over.
They were trying to do some interesting things like rattrap with a disability (unused beast wars idea) but the art was just too jarring. But the writers weren't gonna rewrite the show to work around bad art.
Also, the designs for the show were first, where some beast wars toy designs came first, then the show designs.
The fact that cyberverse seems to have show and toy designs in tandem is a fucking miracle these days

You're having a conversation about Rodimus Prime's characterization and behavior, so why would you bring up Hot Rod when none of his emo, angsty behavior was apparent until after he obtained the Matrix? You're just trolling at this point, in fact that was obvious as soon as you started with the insults, which is usually the first action of someone who's lost the debate. Rodimus Prime was poorly, shallowly written. It's a simple truth and you've provided no evidence to the contrary. Being "different" has nothing to do with good, nuanced writing. Teen Anakin Skywalker was also hated for the same type of characterization, so your argument that people only hated Rodimus because they wanted Optimus back is also off-base.

theres some 5mm tolerance issues with cog, i had that issue with the torso popping apart almost on its own. i had bought two so i just switched parts around, so mine mostly sticks together now (except one of the guns slips out real easy).

I mean, they're good molds, both of them, and have a fun combined fanmode, plus this was a higher priced Takara duo IIRC, but at the end of the day you're getting a good Voyager, and a good Scout. Ask yourself whether you're willing to pay $100 for that and you'll have your answer.
