>>7438656According to the dudes who worked the toy line, gimmicks re-invigorated the line. One of the dudes from Hasbro working on the toys had taken his son to the store to buy a toy, and he showed him a hot wheels car, to which his son asked him what it did? He told him it rolled, which immediately made his son lose interest and set it down. His son then told him he loved the Ninja Turtles, because they did things and were bright colors.
It was then decided that Joe vehicles and toys were too much like model kits that really just posed and looked cool. So they tried to put a gimmick in each successive wave of Joes after that, made the outfits bright to appeal to children, and created sub-teams to compete with all the different popular toy lines at the time: Ninja Turtles- Ninja Force, Star Wars- Star Brigade, Aliens- Mega Marines, Captain Planet- D.E.F. and Eco Warriors.
