Honestly, this is a neglected field. Doesn't really matter whether it's "real" in the context of the story - after all, is Norse mythology 'real'?
Liege Maximo was a vague character to begin with, at best.
My headcanon is that he originally wasn't called that - that his original name was 'Logos Prime'. That was one of the original names thrown around, and his name of course suggests he was the Prime of words. But he became enamored with his own power, started to live manipulating others with his words; which soon degenerated into lies, and so he became the Prime of Lies.
Looks more like the Devil to me than Loki, by the way.
Also, Optimus has been robot Jesus for a long time. Sacrificing himself and then coming back to life is his thing.
