>>7435520Yeah I collect all 9 Mattel colors but only when they satisfy my buying criteria.
1. Am I paying less than a dollar on average?
2 Do the figures have marker on them or look faded/ beat up? (Watch out for kids writing their initials on the feet!)
2. Is there an exceptionally rare class A figure that makes the lot worth breaking rule 1?
I guess you could say I passively collect them, waiting for good opportunities to strike. The other night on ebay I grabbed an exceptionally good BIN: 4 of the 28 packs for less than 30 shipped. This is the best deal I have personally seen in a year.
I'm done with my flesh set and I'm slowly working on my mixed color set. Beyond that, you're going to start getting into the realm of expensive class A figures. Demand created by a handful of serious collectors who all need the same few dozen figures to finish their master sets, drives prices into the 100s. I personally know a collector who paid 1k for his Purple Claw.

The picture here is of some bootlegs collectors are particularly fond of because they've been kit bashed before they were molded. You would have found these in capsule vending machines and gumball machines and such, so odds are you'll never find more than 1 or 2 in the same place.
