Why do they do this /toy/? Am I misunderstanding the stress of this job or something? Why do mail carriers consistently skimp out on deliveries, or turn tail the moment they see a driveway gate instead of trying the walkway? I just want my fucking packages on time instead of rescheduling or picking it up my self.

Not OP but I think they're commenting on the frequent issue of mail carriers being too lazy to even attempt going to the door and falsely claiming nobody was home. I work from home so I know exactly when they've tried to deliver or not, and they often lie about it.

This happens to me every time my mail man has a package that needs to be signed for - which are typically just EMS boxes from nip-island. I was literally outside playing with my son, see the mailman pull up, load mailboxes, then hit some buttons on his doo-dad. My phone goes off saying "Delivery Attempted, recipient not home." so I chase down the mailman to the next set of boxes on the road and ask for my package. Dude was speechless and stammered over his words as I signed for it. Fuckin' dick.

Delivery companies have broken systems that demand absurd time efficiency. If the computer says your route should take X hours and Y minutes you better fucking not take a minute more. Traffic? Fuck you. Someone took a while to find the keys to their front door? Fuck you, you were late. Preferable to be called lazy by frustrated customers than to get called lazy by your boss for not working fast enough.
Leaving a delivery attempt slip is such an easy out it's obviously the first thing someone's going to do to cut corners.

The fucked schedules + the easy workaround of the slips = A terrible system that actively incentivises people to do a worse job.

Canadian here. I'm sure someone have experienced both to compare, but is USPS way worse than Canada Post? I hear the horror stories and wondered if I'm lucky here in Canada land and my local delivery people have been good, or the quality between the countries are vastly different. My other experience to compare is Japan and boy they're whole other higher tier, after a few tiers.

i dunno about that - Laissez-faire capitalism isn't the only form of capitalism, just as marxism-leninism isnt the only form of socialism. The means of production are privately owned in almost all cases in countries out there today, and where they arent things are pretty much always instances of state capitalism, where the state is the effective owner of a corporation like with usps, as opposed to social ownership as socialism aims at. And welfare capitalism ie nordic shit is still capitalism even though it pretends its socialism. I'd actually say pretty much every country out there is either state capitalist or welfare capitalist, including so-called socialist states like chinkland (full retard levels of state capitalism).

Just this week I ordered some Phillips Hue stuff from Amazon (non /toy/ I know but fuck you).

I was home on day of delivery and my drives gate was open for the guy to drive in. I hear the van pull up on the street so start to head out to sign for the package. I open my door as I watch the delivery guy THROW the box over my houses three foot fence and see it land on a pave walkway with a thud. The dipshit Islander delivery dude looks at me, doesn't say a word and points at the box. The box with $300+ worth of expensive light bulbs.

No attempt to drive in to the drive, no attempt to contact me in anyway. Just throw my package over a fence.

The box is clearly marked that recipient must sign for the package.

Though the problems with packages here comes from a lot of unnecesary red tape by the feds on importations, so we could use a little anarcho- in our system.

The couriers here in Singapore offer self-pickup services and I always choose that if I'm able to. They have electronic lockers which are accessible 24/7 so there's no worry about the post office closing.

Well, coming from someone who worked for [That one online retailer] doing customer service for both Canada and U.S., the major difference is that Canada Post doesn't fuck up as much, that's mostly other carriers like OnTrac. But, when Canada Post DOES fuck up, they fuck up HARD and make it REALLY HARD to fix your problem because the shipper can't do shit, it's all on the recipient to fix. When the USPS fucks up, you can call them and usually work out something. Or, you know, actually go to the Post Office and bitch at them instead of calling [That one online retailer] and bitching about it to someone who can't do a whole lot to help unless your package is straight up lost.

Will say though, the "Canadians are nicer" stereotype is super accurate, Americans are TOTAL CUNTS to customers service 99% of the time. Like you can actually tell a Canadian how to fix their problem and they'll be grateful and thank you, but if you try to tell an American how to fix their problem, they'll get mad at you for not just fixing it for them and then demand compensation and then give you a bad review on your survey even though you fixed their problem and literally gave them free money just because they bitched.

Burger here. I remember having to call Sony support a few years back, and just generally being nice and willing to listen to the customer service rep on the other end seemed like it made their week. Plus most of the people I know IRL are total cunts so I don't doubt this for a second. We're not all like this. Just a great majority of us.

Does anyone know if there is a set USPS person that always delivers to the same street/houses, or if it rotates? Cause if it's one set person, I'm willing to slip them a 20 or a cold beer on hot days if they just bring my packages around properly and consistently.

Carrier parks van right outside my building, sits in there idling for about 20 minutes, then I update my tracking and it tells me that a “delivery attempt was made” while they exit the vehicle and walk across the street. Oh I should mention like every once in a while, far between enough to forget and miss it, the delivery person will take my box to the wrong post office for pickup (when absent, they do that part okay). So I go to my usual spot and notice it's at another post office. That's kind of annoying. Especially if in opposite direction.

Depending on where you live. I live in a large apartment complex so they just send whoever. If you live in a house usually it's the same mail carrier through the week.

I can confirm that on weekends, especially Sundays, your mail is delivered by a sub/temp driver because full-time drivers get weekends off

I got myself a PO box purely for this. I have 24 hour access to parcel lockers that can fit boxes as big as amico's size 120, and because my signature is on file I don't have to deal with anyone. The only time I have to put up with delivery people is when I order from Sideshow because they're UPS exclusive for some annoying reason.

Had this constantly happen to me, even though I'm usually at home. They'd say they attempted delivery even though I never heard so much as a knock on the door. One time I caught one of these attempted deliveries about 20 minutes after it happened and I called them up and they sent him back to properly deliver the package.
Now I usually leave a sticky note on the door that tells them that I'm home, does the trick for me.

Hmmm, wait. You mean you never get those pink or yellow slips in your box that you have to take up to the front desk?

I have a PO Box and usually have to do that whole song and dance every time I get a package from Japan. How do I get my signature on file, and does doing that really mean I never have to deal with the clerks/standing in line again?

Just ask them next time you go to sign for something. It's less work for them as well, so they won't give you shit for it. You sign once and they keep that signature on file so you'll never have to sign for anything ever again. They'll just stick your packages in a locker for you instead.

This is assuming your PO has parcel lockers, of course. If it doesn't, I don't know what to tell you.

I'm a stay at home mom and I buy toys all the time and every time I am suppose to get a delivery they don't even bother to even deliver it. Much like literally every other business in America, the USPS is dealing with increasing workloads while trying to maximize profit, and their employees are the ones caught between a rock and a hard place without the slightest hint of a pay increase while cost of living continues to skyrocket. While I don't enjoy getting shitty customer service, I generally don't fault the employee.
