I'd be surprised if the owner of the franchise even acknowledges the games as canon to the original book & film too- at this point it's probably like how Konami considers Castlevania to be canon with the Stoker Dracula novel, but the Stoker estate is probably all "who the fuck is Konami?" with their take on canon.
I would also wager that the games being more known than the original book/film pisses off the creators.
3rd Birthday was also an abomination. No PE license coupled with pissing off everyone with the "Aya's been dead the whole time, her dead sister's spirit somehow jumped into her body" twist was enjoyed by NO ONE. The game wans't well-received either. Square is pretty good at making direct sequels that are complete shit though- see Crono Cross, FFX-2, etc.
All that exists is the Takara doll.... which I would suggest not getting not only due to the price, but the few reviews I found say that the body will be badly stained from the clothing & age, and some of the clothes may just disintegrate in your hands too.
