They're essentially comic relief and just there to depen the story for vegeta and goku (it also helps when theyre in danger so the viewer can root for daddy to save the little s.o.b.'s. They're longevity as major players in the current series is silly. The series is just not about them or will it ever be until the stories of papa goku and papa vegeta are finished. Do you see that happening any time soon? Does that even sound like a good idea. The answer is No. Theyre important to the series the same way the rest of the weakling cast is. Sure we love the characters and hope they don't get killed but they're useless. Creating additional toys for 3rd tier characters isn't lucrative. You got gotenks 1st form with no 3rd form or base head, the lack of follow through and the sheer shittiness of that release should have given you some perspective on how little they cared or others care about the characters. They will never be relevant, and with the introduction of broly they will never be needed.
