Big W sure is an interesting place. They so far are the only one with an Ultra Pack. Said Ultra Pack are a mix of Wave 1 and 3, same for Starter sets but no single packs of either core nor ultra from Wave 3. Just wave 1. I checked Kmart and Target 2 days ago and so far 1st wave only. 2nd wave seems to be entirely skipped.

I've also noticed that Big W is the only place to carry booster packs (although that could just be weird Canberra stocking), and Toyworld is the only place I've seen the carry case things and the full starter sets with 40 cards. Seems like some very odd distributor choices.

So what do we all think about the rules of the game? I think it looks quite fun, but I'm kind of worried about the deck=hit points. Personally I think flip cards need to be able to be cast from the hand for the cost, while being used for free when flipped during a mill.

Subterra was absorbed into Ventus, and Ventus was changed from the wind element into the nature element. There are two reasons for this

Flip cards are going to need a bit of a change in general but the meta needs to develop a bit imo. Many people are running glass cannon builds with 0 flips since you have to mill for damage and energy anyways, and a lot of them are extremely specific.

I'd imagine that some new bakugan like Titan Aurelus Dragonoid Ultra might increase the demand for Stop X Type cards if they go down the multitype route for more bakugan. Flip cards would be a lot more useful in general if you could run a sidedeck so that you can counterbuild more easily, but Spinmaster said no to that a while ago iirc.

Well I still liked Subterra, even if they did keep a thin layer of dust on them. However I sort of understand why they chose to take notes from Magic, why fix the element wheel if it's not broken? Still sucks though.

I however still dislike the idea of the deck-points. I played a deal of MTG back in the day, and mill decks were infuriating to play against. When there are more consequences than just lost cards, I don't think that will bode well. How they will change that I have no idea, but I sincerely hope they do something. I've been looking for a good card game for a while now and bakugon has caught my eye.

Whatever Spinmaster does, let's just hope they don't go full expansion creep like OG bakugon did.

Bakugon is in a weird spot. It's both a card-game, toy, videogame (2009GOTY btw) and anime/cartoon. Yet it doesn't completely expertise in one of them, which leads to boards kinda kicking it out. There could be a spot somewhere on Reddit, if you want to deal with pure cancer. Unless another anon has a good spot, I'm stumped. The game is popular, so there should be something people are talking. Until an anon graces us with an answer, here or /tg/ will be our best bets.

I'm going to assume you mean the starter decks. Pick up the one with Haos Howlkor, Pyrus Dragonoid, and Aurelus Pegatrix. Its the only one competently constructed, and 2 of the 3 bakugan (aurelus pegatrix and pyrus dragonoid) still have places in optimized decks.

Webam is supposed to be Wave 4, which is technically Wave 1 of the Resurgence set

If it's synced with the card set, they should start appearing around May ish depending on your area and whether or not they fix the distribution problems. Just assume that it won't be out until summertime

way less bakugan being released. in this initial release takara tomy has only 8 bakugan with 2 more releasing next month. Card game side is also really barebones right now as packs haven't been released, so all the cards you have access to are the ones in the starter pack, as well as the one packaged with Darkus Howlkor DX and the one packaged with the Arena. Other than that, a few bakugan with weaker base forms have had their stats marginally buffed. The quality of the actual toys is the same because they're all produced in the same factory.

Same here. I basically had to go back and scrape away at the tabs to make them either stay open or keep them from constantly opening. It's really bad with the Ultras. I really hope that tournaments or whatever aren't banning modification of bakugan since there's no way for people to get these things to work as they are supposed to without doing that.

I really want the Dragonoid Ultra but quite unsure with distribution in Australia. So far Wave 3 Battle Pack made it here last I checked 3 weeks ago but there were no Wave 3 single Ultra Bakugan. Not sure if the stores have it now or I have to wait.

Not sure, but here are the specific issues I've had.

Mantonoid Ultra: Left arm and wing, the tab or the hole for it was either too big or too small, so the thing would not let go despite it rolling over a Core. It would basically only halfway open. Fixed it by sanding down side of the tab that was getting caught in the hole a bit.

Krakelios Ultra: Right side forward tentacle was not tabbing in correctly and would cause the thing to half open if I even touch the head in any way. Fixed by bending the tab on the tentacles a bit further forward using hot water so it would actually latch on to the tab in the middle.

Howlkor Ultra: Would not open when rolled over a core, dropped onto a core, thrown onto a core, etc. Would have to physically push the center head back a bit so that it would untab from the hole in the center. Fixed it by shaving/sanding down the edge of the hole a bit.

I haven't had much trouble with the normal bakugan, probably because of how simple they are compared to the Ultras, but they really need to look at the QC on the Ultras. Especially if they're so confident in the quality of the products to be banning any modifications whatsoever from tourneys. I mean, I don't personally plan on attending any, but when your entire game is based around products that are flawed and you don't allow the players to even fix them, that's just not going to work.

I've played with them a lot, its a complete non-issue as long as you roll them straight. I'm not a fan of them either (its especially bad in some cases like Fangzor Ultra) but it doesn't affect gameplay.

I haven't had any issues with that. the tire tracks are pretty good. The only real problem that ultras have is not popping up properly or not landing on their feet, and that's mostly fixed by changing your roll speed and how you roll them

His magnet seems a lot stronger than the Pyrus version but he still has the problem of his springs being too fucking sensitive. The only times I've gotten him to properly land on a core is if he rolls slowly onto it, and even then he opens and does a flip before landing on the core with his magnet for a proper stand. I might try to modify him, but he'll probably get a recall at this rate.

Such a shame because he looks really good in gold.
On the bright side it seems like most people houserule it as a stand if he launches a core across the room, and it's significantly better than the Pyrus version where the magnet is weak enough that you can fling them off of his back if you flick the part.

Forgot to mention since his stats don't seem to be out yet, but Aurelus Dragonoid Ultra's stats are 500B and 4 Damage, which are worse than the Pyrus version (500B and 5 Damage) for whatever reason. I wonder if someone could pull some slick shit by doing something like having a Pyrus whatever/Darkus whatever/Aurelus Dragonoid Ultra deck and having cards that belong to other factions like Haos, but simply not being able to play them until ATDU is played. I haven't found any information regarding that, and it could be a pretty fun interaction. The only issue is that it's pretty debatable, and they would probably rule it as illegal since base Dragonoid is still Aurelus only, and the cards are already in your deck before the game starts.

ATDU is actually kinda busted due to how it interacts with Stop: non-X. Can be used to make your team attack completely unstoppable unless your opponent is using super situational 0/1 cost flips.

And nah, you definitely can't use use Aurelus Drago Ultra to cheat in cards of factions you don't have on your base team lol.

Ventus is unfortunately in a bad spot post-BR. It doesn't have any bakugan specialized enough to be an optimal choice for any archetype, Titan Trox Ultra is just a worse Titan Drago, and Superfuel makes Pyrus the better choice for getting key cards out earlier.

For Mono Darkus the best options are Trox, Hydorous Ultra, Fangzor Ultra, and Aurelus Drago Ultra.

For Mono Aquos the best choices are Fangzor, Pegatrix, Krakelios Ultra, and Aurelus Drago Ultra.

This is more because bakugan products are completely unavailable through TCG distributors. SM is working on fixing this one at least, with Hobby Store-exclusive products to boot, but this still should've been addressed before launch.

The only reason that I can think of is that scalpers give the illusion of the toys being valuable and having high demand. Otherwise they're unnecessary middlemen that just piss everyone off by trying to sell the toys for 10x return on investment.

I can understand why some people are doing it with Wave 3s/4s since the distribution is messed up and only in some locations with a small markup to make it worth their time or to pay for shipping, but goddamn some of the diamond scalpers are being absurd. Funnily enough I managed to get a diamond through a direct order at a local Wal-Mart, so I bet that some scalpers are getting their diamonds without even hunting for them since some websites are just directly listing the products online.

That wasn't the best Starter Deck in the first place.
It has some high rarity in Shun Kazami (BR) and Dark Fortune, but in exchange as a deck its far worse. It has no Evos, and most of the cards in it aren't very good in an actual game. Really suffers from only having BR cards.

Haos Howlkor Ultra deck is still the king.

Its the only one where the deck's build is competent. But yeah Aurelus Pegatrix also helps a lot, as does the fact that swapping out Howlkor for Haos Pegatrix gives you a really solid line-up for a Fist deck.

Rip Tide, Dark Fortune, and Shun (BR) are all Super Rares that can fit well in most decks, and quite a few of the other cards in the deck are useful in general despite some of the crappy cards dragging it down.

If you intend to run an Aquos/Darkus deck and/or like to collect the toys, it could easily be worth grabbing if you plan on tweaking it with other cards; the overall deck is in a much better state compared to the earlier starter decks that aren't Haos Howlkor. Some of the cards that it comes with are worth well over the extra 10 bucks that you would pay for the starter set based on sites like TCGplayer and Ebay. I'm sure some people might even see the "No Evo Cards included" drawback of this starter deck as a benefit, since it makes it even easier to mess around with the deck by making the bakugan that it comes with more replaceable.

Not him but one of the big strengths with Aurelus Pegatrix is that it aside from good stats, it comes with 2 Fists, so it synergizes well with bakugan that benefit from them. If you wanted to run a pure green fist deck like anon suggested, an example Pyrus/Haos deck could be Aurelus Pegatrix, Pyrus Fangzor/Gorthion depending on your preference, and Haos Pegatrix. All of these bakugan get bonuses when they have a Fist attached to them that also scale with their evos.

Pyrus Drago itself actually works really well in a Fist deck too. Obviously requires Titan Drago + Dan which are expensive, but of the Pyrus options for Fist decks it feels the best by a pretty wide margin, even if you go down to 5 Fists to do it. All the other options are either complete trash, or have a decent base form but really bad evos.
