Why are western toy manufacturers such shit? Why don't at least they try do what the east does with statues?
They don't even try to make it look like the source material.
And what's with cringe like funko? They're shitty looking collectables. It's as dumb as painting an egg to loosely resemble a copyrighted character. Hell I'm sure this has been done before anyway.

Without sounding like a weaboo, it has to do with the Japanese culture. They value quality and craftsmanship in all their avenues, including toys and small gacha figures. In the states the overall idea prevailing is low quality for kids (because kids are dumb and won't notice, which is obviosuly false) and higher quality for adults. Of course there are exceptions like Fisher-Price, but for the most part thats sadly the mentality.

America is much, much larger than Japan and if you realistically want to distribute your product to retail nationwide then you are going to have to cut corners. The market for high-end premium figures in America is there, but it's spread too thin, you can't stock them and expect them all to sell and if you can't get your product into retail then there usually aren't going to be enough sales to justify production in the first place.

Well are we talking about toys aimed at kids or premium $50-ish dollar figures? Toybiz did amazing work and they could afford to because they sold well to both kids and adults alike. Finding a market that has that overlap is tricky, kids don't even play with toys like they used to. The arena where you are going to be selling toys in America is retailers like Target and Walmart, so that's what we have to discuss. The toys have to be cheap enough to be manufactured for every Target and Walmart nationwide and that's the truth of it.

Also a company like Funko is raking in half a billion dollars every year vs a company like Kaiyodo making tens of millions.

And since the markets are so different, giant companies like Hasbro can cater to collectors, giving collectors a well made product for real cheap vs some statueshit japanese gashapon.
There's no real equivalents products being made because of how different the markets are.

Most shit from the 80s and 90s was unpainted McStatues. Barely any paint and barely any articulation.
The 00s saw almost every toyline become super articulated as a standard and we still saw almost every movie/cartoon get its own toyline, just like in the 80s and 90s.

The 10s was when we saw a retraction in how toys were made and sold. Up until then, everything was an improvement year after year.

If a toy like this came out in the 80s, i knew it'd have to have come from an advanced civilization superior to my own... or you know, a toy from the future, because of how much more advanced it was

Pop's aren't comparable to action figures. Generally the people who buy pop's would never buy action figures, and most of the time they appeal to completely different series, that action figure collectors don't care about.

Pops sell of mostly shows like game of thrones, stranger things, harry potter, marvel etc. all of these franchises are pretty mainstream. Ontop of that most of them appeal to casual fans such as women.

Casual fans don't care about accuracy or articulation. All they care about is the price tag. The only thing that can compete with pops on that level is standard 5 POA figures. Most women would prefer something cute and modular, over what looks like a happy meal toy.

So please stop complaining about pops, and start complaining about the fake nerd chic fashion that they occupy. My biggest problem with pop's is when people justify themselves as unique or quirky cause they buy them. It's so fake.
