Wrong, Wooden Railway was the greatest line of toys the Thomas and Freinds franchise had going.

That guy was the literally who of literally who Thomas characters. I only watched the show growing up so I was confused where a good chunk of the characters were but at least they were easy to research. This guy had like zero backstory.

When I was a wee lad, I almost got those coaches, but I ended up getting Peter Sam, instead(lost it, btw). Someday, I'd like to track down another set of them, again. They'd look so good behind a 2012 Peter Sam.

D199, character from The Railway Series. In one story, he and another diesel, D7101, came to work on trial. D199 was a huge asshole, while D7101 was a bit nicer and more determined to worked hard. D199 would end up failing and having to be rescued by Henry before being sent away.
He's one of a number of characters from the books that were given toys despite their stories not being adapted, like Ivo Hugh, Culdee, Sodor Railway Repair, etc.

Just go for it. If you want toys that look accurate to the show/books and look great displayed, go for ERTL.
They look great on a shelf, and if still in the package, can be hung on the wall with a push pin.
If you actually wanna play with the fuggers and don't care about accuracy, I recommend Wooden Railway as they are cheap, plentiful, and have lots of neat interactive shit to mess around with. Plus making layouts on the floor is fun.
DO NOT GET INTO THE ELECTRIC TRAINS! THAT SHIT IS EXPENSIVE!
