Rate my collection please.
Also, I'm in desperate need of opinion. I love collecting, I've been doing it for years, but my last girlfriend left me over this stuff, or well, it was part of it. I dunno if I should start selling some of this stuff off or what, but I'm beginning to feel like it's time to stop. What do you guys think? Have any of you guys been in this situation?

That's really all your collection? I dont see how that would be a problem, unless you have no money and are wasting it on toys? I have a lot more, too much even. But I keep it balance take care of my Bill's, expenses, etc and my girl has no problem with it. She actually likes my collection. So maybe she just wasn't the right girl it's all. yeah this is about it, i have a couple playsets and some other figures packed away but i don't think i'm ever going to get them back out. i'm 19, don't have much money to begin with but this is not what most of my expenses go to. i don't spend much more on figures than the average chick would on makeup, you feel me? last girlfriend was my best friend for 3 years beforehand, there were more issues than just this but apparently it was one of the big ones.

wtf is this nonsense? I buy like 5 SHFs at once on a slow month and I still save over 3k per month with my expenses. Honestly you dodged a bullet. In my experience when a woman wants to break up with you they tend to find any little thing to use as an excuse to justify their decision. In this case it's your toys. You need to think of it like that and you'll realize that it was a bad relationship.

You're just feeling mopey and blue right now but you'll get over it. You'll find a nice girl who will accept your hobbies and quirks. My last girlfriend only was mildly into cape shit and other such nerd stuff. But she knew I enjoyed collecting figures and would even keep an eye out for stuff she knew I was looking for when she went out shopping. She didn't like toy collecting herself, but she supported me doing it. That's the kind of girl you want.

thanks for the reality check man, yeah, i'm a lil mopey. it's been about 3 weeks and i'm still a little torn. i'm having a hard time accepting that we really wouldn't have worked. i'm trying to find things i can change so i can "make it work" but i'm beginning to realize if you really have to make it work it's probably not going to.

i'm still planning to downsize a little but just so i can get rid of the shit i genuinely don't need (the funkoshit mostly, with some other impulse buys). might get rid of some of the movie hellboy shit too because i prefer the comics anyway, plus they're worth a ton and i can make some money.

My fiance complains about this too but really it's because you have so many toys together. Break up the toy monotony by including more educated or creative hobby materials. Like a collection of books. Create little areas where your toys are at play with each other. Pose them in an environment that is the space of your house in a way that they dont feel imposing to the house itself. Also consider only displaying so many toys at the same time and swap them out periodically. There's more things than just toys that exists and it's good to give them space to breath too. Then when your girl complains try to get her to understand that you will always have (some) toys and that they are important to you. If she understands she will allow and accept. If she doesnt budge at all then she probably isn't a good fit for you anyway.

The little European house? I'm not sure I bought it at a second-hand store. The bottom has a sticker plate saying "The Old Mill" By Jane Hart from The Village Collection. Then The Danbury Mint c1994. I thought it was cute and detailed.

Since you're in desperate need of an opinion, here's mine: Ditch the middle of the road capeshit and go deep and hard on the Kaiju / Hellboy / Aliens / Whovian shit, get a bit of Sci Fi Lovecraft vibe going. Find some nice vintage pieces to give the whole thing some depth and make it nice and freaky.
THAN you'll get a collection that's a real conversation starter.

Also, nice cabinets and nevermind that ex. Probably a boring person anyway.

Tough call on recommending vintage toys, really depends on what you like and what you can find. I'm really partial to 80s stuff, so I'd suggest a few big guys from Inhumanoids. Here come my displays! So one wall is 2 built in bookshelves, and in the chent I have a cabinet with my gaming systems and record player, and on top of the mantle is my tv. I use vinyl figures to break up my books. Here's my favorite shelf

The art uptop I just opened up to test it out, not sure if I like it. there.

I think that could look really nice. It gives the Doc more room to matter. Also TARDIS between books is cool. Alkso get more of the Hellboy volumes! Amazon has them on sale often
I think the Gorillaz would look better on the shelf, uptop or beside the Sentinel. The mismatch size could benefit from being "framed" but the containing shelf, while on the dresser it's a lil wonky. I love the Hellboy statues.

I also would want it in white. But I really like it to elevate the bottom shelf and provide what I would use as a storage shelf. Maybe some books. I also like the spacing it adds.

They still do and the doors are called Morliden.
They image makes them look opaque but you can remove that sheet to have your typical glass door.
There is also the Oxberg glass door but that has a small beam in the middle. That however seems to line up with a shelf in the Billy which makes it less of an issue.

Here's most of my current small collection and a coin for size reference.

I used to collect some nendoroids, figmas, revoltechs, a few mech models and other random figures. I decided to downsize once I wasn't feeling it anymore. I sold and gave away almost everything and now I only collect smaller and cheaper figurines like cute Japanese capsule toys. I live in Japan now so it's been easy to find most things pre-owned. My smaller place also forces me to keep things manageable. I'm much happier now with a smaller collection of small things I like the most.

I still appreciate the types of figures I used to collect, but now I just google pictures of them. It works for me.

I just went to Ikea this weekend and picked up a third Detolf, and to raise them I got a Klannax. It's got three supports in the middle, so I thought it could support Detolf better than Besta. A couple of my friends are happily married and have significant collections of their own. One is really into Star Trek and space stuff and the other Street Fighter and manga.

I have 5 "audiophile" headphones and a bunch of cheaper ones that came free with my phones, and i basically only use two now, while the rest sit around in their cases or a draw. Out of the cheaper ones, i only use the Apple ones because they're actually really good and use those for trips and sometimes to sleep with.
I use my main two headphones when i want that deep down bass or clear live sound. The deep bass headphones also work great for blocking out external sound because they're closed headphones.

Anyway, i bet her collection is mainly for fashion sake, like someone who owns multiple cars and watches... or sunglasses.
But then again, if you treat headphones like a fashion statement, you'd look stupid wearing headphones in public and it's straight up anti-social because of the nature of listening to music privately through them.
So maybe she just really anal likes really specific sound signatures for different genres of music?

I just moved into a new apartment, and my collection is all in boxes. The thing is, I'm afraid to put it on display. Not because it'll gurantee I'll stay a virgin but because most of it is plushes and I think the sun's UV rays will mess the fabrics and plastics up. I live in a studio apartment so it's all kinda one huge room so I can't really hide from the sun. I think I'm going to need to look into buying one or more display cases. Where should I even start shoppping for something like that?

What happened? Do you still live with your folks?

I had a huge Doctor Who figure collection, but packed it away when I moved to uni. When I get more established I'm planning on smaller, more tasteful displays that isn't just the whole collection standing still.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with buying toys and that - but maybe you need to examine the way you "consume" this sort of stuff? What's your identity beyond being a geek/nerd/purchaser?
