It's not even a new problem since that shit has been an issue for years.

I found a head with the face rubbing off and the damaged helmet so thought I'd put the two together for a laugh. The yellows on either end have cracks in the torsos too.

That's a good pic anon, thought it was official at a glance. Never saw the movie but that set is neat. The vehicle has this old super skeleton helicopter look to it. (the ones just made from a steel frame in the 60s 70s?) bubblecanopy has a nice technique, the figs are pretty cool and generic enough prints to use for custom stuff. And it interesting greebling too!

Hey, thanks! I completely agree about the skeleton helicopter comparison. I love the canopy, it doesn't look like it should work but then it ends up looking so good. The greebling is something I was especially impressed by too. Overall a great set, just a bit on the expensive side.

i live in aus and the lego website here has this polybag for sale for about 5 dollars australian. we don't really get many polybags down here, especially rare for them to be given away as promo gifts at retailers :( But this set in and of itself has a good price to parts ratio. Well guys, I did it, I finally finished getting all the main sets from my favourite theme. Have to get a few replacement/missing bricks to be 100% complete, but its really satisfying to have gotten this far. Next up is the orient expedition to start slowly working on. Anyone else really like the themes from this era of lego?

Thanks! I've been working on it slowly for about 9 to 10 months, keeping some spare cash around to pick up a set if I found a good deal. I have a coworker who is also into lego collecting and asked around with their friends, they were able to find the granite grinder, rapid rider, and tunnel transport for me. Rock raiders crew I got on ebay, but one of the minifigs was in bad shape so im waiting to get a replacement. Loader dozer i found on facebook for super cheap, and the rest were bought complete on bricklink. Try looking on local classifieds too, I found a bunch on there but they were either priced too high or incomplete.

I really love this whole theme, building them and moving them around, they feel really solid and you can tell they were designed with play in mind. Ive been lucky that most of the sets I bought were pretty unloved by kids, and have minimal play wear compared to what ive seen while hunting around

Fuck it, I'll bite. What's wrong with large pieces? I find them useful as a base for a moc, as I can achieve in one piece what would've taken many. In some cases, like the brown cage piece you posted, it would be near impossible to build with ordinary bricks without compromising appearance or stability.

I feel you on that, every time I take a picture of my mocs it always looks worse than in real life. I think it's because lego is inherently physical and 3 dimensional, so a lot of it gets lost in translation so to speak.

This issue was fixed with a new revision of the piece. The new version has a lip on the base of the stud to stop it from acting as a wedge when it's pushed into a brick.

I used to 3d print real life guns for use with minifigs, a la brickarms. it was pretty fun re-creating them myself in solidworks and being able to print them out, and later to order them off of shapeways, but eventually I got bored of it.

This. "le half-printed black faces" are a well known problem compared to other abominations in printed pieces they've produced. Their QC went to hell in these last few years. Slightly discoloured pieces in the same set as others that are fine, and some printed elements that just look UNHOLY. Then you have the same piece, produced same year, just another box of the same set, and it's perfectly fine.

I have. But when I say compose music, I mean classical. I've written as many fugues and part writing exercises as I can. I want to be able to emulate romantic, imrpessionist and modern music as well. There's really know getting around it if you want rubato and all the things that make that kind of music work. This is the tempo automation on a random chopin midi. just basic physics. Lego elements are of such a size that a 1x1x1 brick basically accommodates 1 size of element. If technic holes were any bigger there would be little structural integrity to technic bricks. Any smaller and the technic "system" would be too fragile. Hence a pin and a stud are in the same ballpark.

Okay. I just wasn't sure if there was precedence on this. Like if doing one licensed calendar meant another one got the old Heave Ho. It's just that my brother is a LEGO Star Wars fan and over the last few years we started a tradition where I give him and his family (wife and son) the Star Wars one at thanksgiving and they post a video every day on a private YouTube channel of what they get. Plus I kind of started the same thing with my friend where got me the City Calendar last year and I sent him a pic of the present every day. I found they calendars can offer some really clever micro builds, especially the minifig scaled toys. Thought it would be sad if one of them went away for that new HP one.

Also older sets had less licenced stuff. They had full creative control because they were making it up - there was no need to get extra approval from other companies. Compare Adventurers to let's say Indiana Jones sets.There are like 3 or 4 "location" sets and the rest is all about vehicles.

To be honest IJ falls flat. Adventurers sets were much more interesting. I remember they tried to remake it but that failed and there was only Egypt theme.

Yeah, usually this argument is bogus but in terms of design the last 10 years of Lego design have been significantly better than the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Its one of the few cases where this is true. I'm a lot more nostalgic for something like Atlantis than Mission Deepsea.

yes, and the new 1x1 clips can do so as well withut much risk (and that ceonnection is considered legal). The old version was thicker and didn't bend as easily, so using that with a plate between the clip is considered illegal still

That's fair. Yeah flickfires at least can be repurposed for different uses, but for projectiles in general, I'd rather sacrifice some of that repurposability just for something functional for once.
Not to say you can't make flickfires good, but really the only flickfires i ever liked were activated by slamming a button or trigger which pushed them out, or the like. It's more comfortable then lining up with the bare pins.

I made a new speederbike for the LSB.
The main part of the bike is actually the engine from a few weeks (or months? I don't remember) ago when a few anons wanted to build Garc speeders. I never finished mine, but I quite liked that engine design.

Could be bad. I waited years after my wisdom teeth came in. By the time I actually got them checked they were actually dead teeth and needed to be surgically removed. That wasn't really the worst part though. The worst part comes about a week later when the rest of your teeth start shifting because of the new space available. Be sure to have several kinds of STRONG pain killers on hand.

There are only ~45 sellers in the US who sell this piece, and maybe 5 of them have more than 1 available. Of the 5, 3-4 of them are selling them for like $1.50 each. What the fuck is going on?

Old school purists may disagree, but I love the dedicated dress piece. It's so much better than using a slope for dresses, as regular studs can't produce the clutch needed to keep a figure together.

I think it's more that there's no real need. With other toys every new release can have new quirks and QC problems related to a multitude of factors, but with Lego pretty much everything is made from the same basic materials and there's not as much variation and need to check for issues before buying. Also as a toy it generally promotes self built stuff and that is what is most welcome here.
And if someone shows off a new set it's often incorporated into a little city diorama or something like that, instead of standing on its own.

Completely agree with that. But the other angle might be a bit too negative imo. This general sees way too little frog/wojack posting and reeeing about normies for that to add up. I'm sure theres a correlation between liking escapist childlike things and not fitting in with more usual respected/ageappropiate interests to some degree though. But that doesn't have to make you a creppy sociopath, mocs ITT tend to be way too wholesome for that.

Biggest reason people dislike licenses is the overly specific pieces and prints, reliance on (expensive) minifigures.
[spoiler:lit]and no room for glorious classic castle and space themes[/spoiler:lit] Meanwhile people who moc still use whatever pieces they think are interesting regardless of theme.

So recently my supposedly MISB set arrived. It is still in its box and as far as I can tell from that the box has been unopened.

That having been said it has taken some heavy damage and some deformation is present. One of the lids (still on) is bulged and you can get to the pieces inside although they won't come out easily.

To my great disappointment the pieces do not seem to be in a plastic bag (is this normal for a set made in 1981?)

The question - I plan to document and share the experience of opening this supposedly MISB set with you pals.

Should I make my own thread or just post m y stuff here, and pretend that LG is my personal blog?
What do you think about the box? Can I still brag that it's an untouched set or have I been scammed?

I seem to remember them coming in nothing but the box in the early 80s but I was pretty little at the time

I know the bigger sets just came loose in a molded piece of partitioned plastic that you could view through a window by lifting up the front flap

I'd say no, at least for sets made in the mid-to-late 80s, because I remember opening those plastic bags every time we would get a new set.

However, it's possible that only the smallest pieces were in plastic wrappings? And back then they didn't even differentiate the bags with numbers / build phases.

I've been getting the feeling from these sets that the whole idea is the modular build-your-own NASA kind of thing.
I mean, if you were to get all the sets in the line, you can build a huge space station and a bunch of different modular spaceships with everything else you'd need to operate a bedroom NASA on a school night.
