Most are some kind of big red truck, occasionally with a super form, usually keeping some visual elements to link them all together. And, importantly enough, it's not as big of a change to go from flat 2D cartoon of a big red truck to a 3D big red truck.
It's a whole new ballgame when you go from Mickey Mouse-esque cartoony design to some realistic, 3D CGI furred abomination that doesn't even get the basic colors of a character right. It's the Bayformer of Sonic. Plus Sonic autism is one of the most powerful forces on the planet.
