I am going over my CMF heads from 2017 and later all the time and never encounter something like it but if the problem existed and came from the china factory it must have appeared elsewhere, too though no reports exist. I think it must have had something to do with the climate and storage.

Bought all the Disney minifigures and thought I'd give you guys a rundown:

The printing on their feet is awful and looks like it'll rub off if I were to brush my thumb over it

Bland to say the least. Asides from different accessories and colours, the figures are the same - would've probably been better in a set so the 3 slots could be used on other IPs. No printing or molding problems.

Overall decent figure - though the printing on the leg assembly is lacking and the tail piece that has been painted blue could do with another coat

The instructions in the top right are nonsensically elaborate for such a ridiculously simple construction and somehow they managed to end it all in a printing error.
The bottom right parts are all from the same set and show how Lego has issues with keeping the hue of their colors consistent ever since they switched to translucent plastic pellets with added color pigments.

Hello! No we are not asked to use any specific colors for our models. The reason that we use a lot of colored elements hidden inside the models, is to give a better building experience. Imagine if you got a huge pile of only grey pieces! A model like that would be almost impossible to build! And finding the pieces would take forever!! -Jens

I hope it's okay to ask this kinda thing here? Don't normally come to /toy/ but i figure this is the best place to ask. (This isn't intended as advertising.)

So I've got a fuck ton of lego from when I was younger and now i'm looking to sell it. Can't work a job over the summer before uni starts and there's so much of it that it actually takes up alot of our spare room.

But how exactly do I go about selling it?
I've got a few assembled sets with parts missing that i'm going to try hunting down said pieces for (republic cruiser 7665, one of the Imperial Star Destroyers, ect), but for the most part much of it is just a mess of bricks. Is it worth organising it and selling them as 2x2 bricks, 2x4 bricks of x colour, ect

I've read that you can sell by the kilo, but aside from minifigs, I'm assuming there's a more cost effective way for my time?

For what it's worth i'm in the UK.
Any answers or links to resources would be appreciated, thanks ^_^

what I know, the fastest way is, to take all of it, and sell it at once under a high price

more time consuming is, to sort everything, and sell it one by one, but it might get you more money

the assembled sets sound ok
if you still have the instruction (or even the box), sell it with that together

I've noticed similar issues in some of mine. Looks like a rub on Mickey's torso, stray paint on Jasmine's hair piece and some wear on Sally's foot printing.

Hoping S.19 has fewer issues.

if you want to make the most money check out the general prices of sets and minifigs on bricklink and sell them for more than that on ebay to people who don't know any better. Depending on the size of your collection that can be a very long process though

I may be dumb but at least I don't complain about getting a bunch of different colored parts in sets where they can't even be seen. Maybe it's because I only buy sets for the pieces so I actually have a use for all of the parts in different colors instead of just building everything in grey.

I'm only going on memory, but for the most part it's a bunch of loose lego. See the red boxes in the photo? Theres about 25-30 of those filled with it, with some mostly built sets mixed in. I had a lot of Star wars, Exo Force, Agents, and a lot of other stuff, but its hard to remember the names and specifics of everything.

Okay LG, I've done the deed - now for the confession.

As I previously said a few times in earlier threads my 6801 Moon Buggy set has arrived. Traveling from 1981 through time and space it finally arrived on my desk and I decided to open it.

The seller had claimed it was MISB despite having some damage do the box, and I had always wanted to open up an old set like this, so considering its somewhat lower price and damaged box I decided to go ahead and do it.

Deciding on how to open it with doing as little damage to the box as possible I opted to do what the designers had intended me to do all along - use the side of the box that was clearly intended to be ripped open when trying to get to its contents.

Only I didn't rip it open, opting instead to slowly cut away with a sharp blade at the old cardboard box that was still keeping my new pal sealed and secluded.

It worked out rather well, and I got to the parts inside quickly.

Note: I have begun learning how to merge photos together, this is my first attempt.

Once the box was out of the way out came the contents - all 22 pieces were inside along with the instructions sheet and one small catalog sheet.

By the way the pieces felt and immediately attracted dust and particles from my (messy) desk I immediately knew they had been untouched and that the seller had been honest.

The instruction sheet and catalog sheet also seemed to be completely untouched.
It was a rather pleasant experience to know it had taken this little guy 38 years to get to me, but he had finally made it.

As you can tell the torso of the figure is one of the earliest variants that had no reinforcements on the inside.

Putting the figure together wasn't hard, but it did creak something fierce when I attached the legs.
Old parts are old and you should be patient with them, their tolerances are very different from modern sets because of the age of the plastic.
This was an issue with the build as well, as the pieces were very strong in clutch and I had to be careful when pressing them together to not force or damage them.

Despite some difficult moments it worked out. If you ever do this - do not stress the parts, and do not expect it to build easily because it most likely won't.

The prints, as you can see here, are in impeccable condition. Seeing that Classic Space logo in its full, as intended, glory was honestly a warm and happy feeling.
Whoever made it did one hell of a good job.

The final build didn't take long to put together, it is 22 pieces after all. The instructions are clear and simple and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to put this guy's little ship together.
The back of the instruction sheet features all the three alternate builds that can be made with these pieces (remember when LEGO did that?) and gives you good quality images of them so that you can easily build them ( the box does too but the ones on the instruction sheet are bigger and qualitatively better).

Regarding the pieces - they were in a very good condition with the exception of some small dent on the main dish (probably from when the box got hit) and some odd coloring on of the 1x1 with a clip plates.

The figure's joints are a bit stiff and he's a bit grippy when you sit him down but you can definitely feel he's new and ready for some adventures. It really is amazing how good the quality was back then.

They tend to be a darker shade of grey than the rest of the pieces, but I have seen this before with this exact piece in other CS sets I've had so I consider it normal.

I compared it to all types of gray LEGO has put out and it certainly doesn't match any.

To sum it all up - it was a fun and satisfying 20 minute process.
Nothing quite matches that buzz you get when you open the box and know how long it's been.
It was definitely worth the price of buying it and opening it but beware - each of these sets you open is forever opened and cannot be unopened.
One day the world will simply run out of them. Still, that thought in mind, I believe the fate of LEGO pals and pieces is to be played with, or at least freed from their cardboard confines and built - so if you feel like doing this, I fully recommend it.

I'm going to keep it short ( as if this wasn't long already) and stop here. If you guys have questions and requests let me know. I have some more pictures and can even take more if needed.

There are definitely some small affordable sets that still contain them.
If you don't want to spend the money on an old set but want some new space friends to play with, the best alternative is Benny's Space Squad. With just one bricklink order of one old blue style helmet and a new head you can get yourself three very good condition CS astronauts to play with.

And yes, I did replace Benny's head on mine and also his helmet. I prefer my own generic astronaut than the one they've thought up.

I'm glad to hear, not much of a writer. I've seen that one as well, not much you can do about it. The price is really steep because they're pretty rare I suppose.

The issue is it's rather difficult to lay flat and take pictures of because of how long it's been folded. I'm definitely going to post both it and the alternate builds for the main model but I think I might need to wait until the week starts and I have access to a scanner, so I can scan instead of trying to take pictures with my phone.

I only got one SW set as a kid (I'm not huge into SW), but it was the very first Star Destroyer. I was still in Elementary school then, and I had no problem building it. If anything, I felt proud of myself when it was done because I built that gigashipfuck all by myself; gray parts weren't a problem at all. I think you need to give kids more credit; they can define pieces by their shapes too, brainlet.

Let's say that, generously, 90% of people can build an all-gray SW ship no problem.

Good, cool cool cool.

Still leaves you with 10% of the customers YOU NOW LOSE because of an a e s t h e t i c decision about parts THAT ARE INVISIBLE FROM THE OUTSIDE.

It costs literally zero money to produce those inside parts in other colours (in fact, it may be cheaper since you can basically use any color part you already produce).

You may not like the decision, but from a money perspective it's the right one.

I still remember getting the minifigure Death Star in 2008 and having to shit all 4000 pieces over the floor. Building the Dianoga was a nightmare and took over half an hour despite the brown and tan parts standing out from the grey. I bet most of the price increase to the 500$ but near identical Death Star has more to do with having to coordinate the production of the numbered bags (instead of dumping all grey 2x4s in a single bag) than with the 4 extra figures and oil.

They didn't make the blue one in the new mold, because they made the "cracked" Benny one instead.

The issue here is that a lot of play value is lost when this is done. Why? Because kids will no longer be able to take the model apart and build something else out of those parts and still maintain the same color consistency.

You can argue kids don't care about the color of builds, I certainly didn't for a while, but the point still stands.

Let's say you're a kid who buys a Star Wars set and gets tired of it. You want to build another set. Let's say you're a kid that cares somewhat about consistency.
Star Wars ships are mostly gray. Your old model was mostly gray. You take it apart and now you've got a lot of parts that aren't gray. You want to use them but can't because what you're trying to build doesn't necessarily have those non gray parts on the inside.

In the end you're going to end up frustrated at the diminished inventory of "useful" parts for your new ship.

It's just another classic case of let's sacrifice the smart and creative kids for the sake of the stupider kids and sales. Let's make everything easy, simple and inclusive so that everyone can participate (and give us their money while they do it).

I understand why it is so, but I don't have to like it.

I got SBW Mickey because I'm a mark for that 1920s shit, but I wouldn't say he's necessary. I'd say the triplets are a judgment call. If you're nostalgic for DuckTales and plan to get Scrooge anyway, might want to grab them. Never know if/when LEGO will go back to the DT well.

If you already have the rest, I think it would make sense to buy them. Asides from the printing on the feet of vintage Mickey and Minnie, the minifigures are decent. If you already have/going to get the Steamboat Willie set, there's no real point to buying vintage Mickey and Minnie though

But I really wanted the original pod-racer when I was young and I also missed out on the 2011 one, so I'm pleased to finally own one.
The few pages in the beginning of the instructions about the changes between the original and the new set are a nice little touch.

The lego brand has really gone downhill in the last ~5-6 years.

A decade ago Lego seemed like it was doing just fine, but nowadays, they have to do licensed sets for everything, and shit like Ninjago keeps getting made and there's a distinct lack of intriguing original sets / ideas. All their star wars sets are just rehashed over and over again because there's nothing else to make except another y wing, or another x wing, or another a wing, or another b wing, or another death star something, or another tantine iv, or another at-at. It's all so tiring. All the original newer sets for the new movies are all bland and for the most part shitty too, and everything is also so fucking expensive, of course it's always been expensive but it feels like you're getting even less value today than you ever were in the past. I mean I guess 90s lego sets were technically more overpriced because of inflation and parts count too, but at least the sets themselves are all original, and there wasn't any licensed shit. It was just toys for children to be creative with. All of that is pretty much gone now.

Also, so many specialized parts. I know that's always been a thing, and it's not always a bad things because more parts is always good, but christ it just keeps getting worse each year. Everything is so convoluted and complex, I just want to return to a simpler time.

I think the Lucy one is great, but here the design is a bit simplistic and the colours don't match with the rider. (I still like it, but having the two models contrasted doesn't do this one any favours.)

I've told this story before, but I went to my aunts and uncles house and they had so many classic lego sets from the 80s, including monorail. But THEIR grandkids were already playing with the sets. I missed that sweet spot before the new generation where i could have asked for them.

I'm going to make some baseless speculation about the direction towards more complexity and LEGO not returning to "simpler times".

Like I said in others posts, I consider LEGO's increased complexity in both part types and part number, increased build complexity and more difficult techniques to be a major driving factor behind kids not taking their sets apart and building something else.

Now some posters have said this isn't so - while others have agreed. For the sake of the discussion I'm going to assume it is indeed so.

This, from a business point of view is a very good thing. Since each set now doesn't double as another toy. So if the child wants another toy he'll be less likely to make one out of his existing parts and instead will ask for another.

Using pieces that only work when using advanced building techniques, staying away from bricks on plates building - this works to effectively limit the usage of a child's part inventory.

If before he could make "a new toy every day" out of a set number of parts, today, with the same number of parts he can produce fewer builds and must navigate a higher barrier of difficulty in order to produce those builds.

This I believe drives children to abandon the idea of "let's build something new out of what i have" and instead push for "daddy daddy buy me a new set" which means more of a profit.

I could be wrong, this is just speculation, but if I were a business that only cared about business (like they do today) this would certainly be a direction I would explore.

The days in that video are long gone. Back then LEGO wanted to push into the toy market and they used the idea of "a new toy every day" to promise parents a system that alleviated toy costs in the long run because it allowed for creative play. The whole point is that the sets are not "one and done".

That roof is a very cool design and i like the groundplan with the smaller inset section in the back. The little workspace under the roof and, the pink babyblue blankets and kitchen really bring it to life.

I think only two (2) people entered but i really enjoyed both.

Thanks! The roof made mostly of pieces that were in 4532, I've planned to use them as a roof for a long time. About the groundplan, the sliding door and this inset were inspired by traditional japanese houses, but I had to sacrifice internal space for some nice oudside area.

It was a big deal back in the day and a remnant of that has remained, but just because a token of their previous philosophy remains I wouldn't say that what I've described as the main phenomenon isn't valid.

You don't seem to understand, I didn't say that kids don't want toys, I just said that given what I've described I believe they want those new toys at a more accelerated rate.

You have to understand Lego sells VERY high quantities of sets, so if you can accelerate the rate at which a child begins pestering parents for a new set by even 10-15% that will generate a LOT of money.

I agree with the video games part, that's certainly a part of it.
Like I've said before a lot of why modern LEGO is driven by the environment. The environment has changed and the children have changed with it.
Still, I have to wonder, whenever a "this could be evil but it could be nothing" situation occurs and it just happens to go in the direction of making the company more money, whether it was truly a coincidence or is someone really working their butt off for a 5-10% increase in profit.

I just posted this over on /pbbg/ but thought I'd post it here too because of the good detail of grievous.

Also I just realized today that because of the clutch of the bricks you don't have to shoot pictures from the side. I mounted the plate a 45 degree angle and shot from above. You get lighting options from fixed light. I think it's a really elegant and obvious solution, that took me years to stumble upon.

Here we go!

This took me right at two weeks to cobble together. The original plan was to make a small shop on the ground floor with a couple of small apartments above. The current form of the idea is a small toy shope with the owner's living quarters above.

The first pictures are the outside. The third is the cut away or dollhouse back.

The toys on the first floor are a combination of table scraps and ideas that I didn't hate.

The part that I like the most is the community board on the outside. All the buildings in my small fantasy town are based on the 16x16 footprints. The board was already committed to the plot and I decided that the toy shope could be the last building on my first block.

In all my life I somehow only ever bought one SW set ever, that being the original Star Destroyer set when I was a kid. Thought it was really cool until it kept falling apart from mild swooshing, so eventually I gave up rebuilding it. I'm a mild fan of SW but you'd think I would've at least gotten something with battle droids or clone troopers, I always thought they were cool.
Also, near-complete collections of Aqua Raiders and the first years of Power Miners and Atlantis that have extremely minimal missing parts. I always loved those themes, but I am surprised I never took any of them apart. Only thing I did take apart was the AR Tiger Shark, which I tried turning into a spaceship. Didn't look too good, wanna build it back up but I'm missing a lot of the parts.

Most of what I own that is non-Bionicle/Technic/CCBS is made up of so many specialized bricks. It's really shocking just how much Lego has changed from the sets i had as a child to now, so few actual bricks, tons of weird, greebly detail parts. I don't hate it, but it's an interesting comparison.
Also that we even got a Deadpool minifig still surprises me to this day.

It was a tough choice, but this build got extra points for having a toilet, which was a very nice feature. I also liked the railing on the deck a lot.

oh shit i used very similar headhair combos for figs recently,
i made them for this like goldenage barbarian vs gods setting that i never really did anything for besides figs. the figure with the elves hair looks a lot like one that i wanted for my flying ship crew like supermario 64.

I wonder as a more general question for ITT:
Do you guys dabble in different themes and settings? What is the general proportions between the different themes/settings if you build several?
Do you always tend to come back to a specific one?

For me its the latter honestly. In the end ill always come back to building coloured youthculture/alienmonster figures, 6wide cars and other accesorries that fit in the general 'retrofuture in the 80's 90's city'. Other projects just kind of strand eventually.

Just to get these characters out of my system, here their classes:

I like to do very similar things too. I build a lot of speed champion-like cars from the 80's/90's to fit into a layout that has a lot of figures dressing up in retro clothes. Putting as much anime bullshit into the layout as I can too.

Btw made some minor, but rather important adjustment today (as I managed to find rope with handles I was already thinking I've lost or never had). It supposed to be string to hang up the films during the processing, and I hope they're represented fine enough with 1x1 clips. That's why the room upstairs has lots of bottles and stuff - chemicals, films, etc.

I'm genuinely impressed with how these worked out.
I thought it was another case of 'cool monsterfigs/parts i was gonna bricklink + some builds on the side' , but now i actually feel kinda meh about the figs but love the builds a lot.

Look for the bricklink entry of the CMF icehockey player, i think they're made atleast in Dark Blue and Dark Green.

Some nice new parts in there. Good builds, likely easy to convert into normal vehicles.
Loving the new hat and hair pieces. Pigtails with beanie, cap and hoodie, a 100% Liefeld spiky-top and goggles... And the monster hair is fun too.
Plus the neck bracket wings and tentacles...

On a serious note, I wouldn't be that bothered by licensed themes if Lego put out more original themes. It's disappointing that there are fewer original themes than licensed. Also, why do a Trolls theme now? Wouldn't it have made sense to release it to coincide with the movie?
