>>7539266Imo Lego's definitely on the decline, but that doesn't mean it still doesn't have its gems here and there.
The Lego Movie 2 sets are probably the best original sets they have right now aside from Creator which is always great, and the Lego City Space sets they're coming out with soon look pretty neat. Ninjago's also got some good stuff coming if you're into it, but if you're not into Ninjago then it'll be hard trying to convince you, but I DEFINITELY encourage you to at least give it a shot. Aside from those though, they really have barely anything original that's worthwhile aside from perhaps the mystery/horror Hidden Side theme they're coming out with. Collectable Minifigs (CMF's) are also much higher quality than main sets' minifigs, check em out. They're good.
On the licensed themes side, there's a lot of trash. Star Wars is alright but the builds are getting staler and staler, and the sets they're coming up with for the sequels are just lame. If you're a big SW fan I'm sure you'll enjoy any original trilogy/prequels/CloneWars sets they might have, I know I particularly have my eyes on a couple despite not being too into SW, but all the same look at the older sets too (many people think the new SW figs are too realistic to the point of being uncanny, too).
If you asked me, the only good licensed themes are Batman/DC Superheroes (for being more free and liberal in their recreations), Minecraft (for encouraging rebuilding, building off both MC and Lego's best features), and Marvel Superheroes (If you're into the MCU and can pick out the shitty sets there are, or wait for non-MCU inspired sets)
Regardless, I encourage you to browse bricklink and maybe look at older themes. Classic Space/Pirates/Castle are a good place for everyone, and some of my personal favorites include later themes like Power Miners, Aqua Raiders, Atlantis, Technic Competition, [toyler]Bionicle (mostly G1 but G2 has good figs too), Slizers/Throwbots, Roboriders[/toyler] and others.
