In mine? Substantially high. There's roaming gangs of "L.C. Boyz", "Skullkraker M.C" biker gang, "Midnight Runners" smuggling/cartel, the "Stripes Gang" (if any of you have police sets, you got a few members already), and various pimps, hustlers, a ne'er do wells. Add into that rampant bear attacks for those with wedding rings/in close proximity to gold and I'd say my police forces are severally under staffed. Pretty sure the cops need a new HQ due to bullet holes, firebombs, and the occasional TNT explosion. At least my education system is top notch...

Spent a some time yesterday on somethinf I've been meaning to to for a while, modifying the Imperial landing shuttle. I do like the set but as is it needed a lot of improvement. The stock set has these little trats and you can basically only fit 4 guys easily in there despite the size of the main body also a lot of the internal space was taken up by thus cheesy little 2 wide ramp that slides back and forth and wasn't really that useful. Finally, the wings are just a bit too stubby.

First i lengthen the folding wings. The center mast sail needs to be extendes to be about 2 stud length higher than the folding wings but i lack the parts to do this for now and keep the right angle to it.

After the trays were removed and the interior opened up. The removal of the ramp that ran thru the center also opened up a central corridor that allows access to both sides of the ship. The internal supporting structure had to be altered slightly but its still just as sturdy afterwards.

Imperial troops i have loading up the ship. Went from holding 4 to i now have 16 minifigs comfortably inside and could probably fit a few more with some more efficient organization, now i need to pick up a couple 20th anniversary Imperial dropship packs for more troopers.

Last photo i have for now. I also improved the support of the body panels they used to be quite flimsy. I dont have a ramp door any more but the previous one was too small anyway.

I also need to work on the landing gear and figure out how to get them to fold up better.

Looks like just a simple plate with clip and plate with bar.
Light grey piece is a 1x2 plate with clips and the red piece on the lower jaw is a 1x2 plate with bar.

we have gotten some things outside of that, but admittedly not much (city space, jungle exporation, divers, buses/trams, dumptrucks, musea (in police context often though) costume shops, pizza shops/restaurants, parks, beaches)

I think the main reason why we don't get schools (outside of the architecture adult lines) is that kids fucking hate being reminded of having to go to school 99% of the time.

How much do you guys reckon a Brickmania 003 Country Mill is worth?

It's opened, built once and put back in it's box. My father bought it in 2001 and I'm helping him clear some of his collection. I can't find any record of it being sold anywhere. It's 1 of 15.

I think it's original price was a whopping $200 back in 2001. Any thoughts on whether it has risen or fallen in value and how to sell it would be appreciated. Seems like their military kits resale well on ebay but this isn't what they're known for now.

Same, whenever I see images of the model, I first see the lunchbox and only then focus on the rest built around it. Not that it looks all that good in the first place. THE GREAT LEGO QUEST CMF BONANZA GIVEAWAY CONTEST: ROUND THREE

Before I announce the winner, let's take a moment to look at all the mocs that people posted!

Behead of State has a really nice build for the guillotine. I kind of want to use the strength contest machine from the upcoming summer minifig set as a basis for my own guillotine now.

Next Train Out of Town made me smile. And also realize that I really do need to get some railroad track of my own.

Peace on Mars has a great landscape build and a very nice idea to use the backdrop.

FINISH HIM looks great. Nice shot and nice use of that (Megabloks?) stone piece.

Kraglefist is a really neat idea, and like the other anon said, the picture of the raptor holding the timestamp is adorable.

Killdozer. Holy shit, I hadn't thought about this in years. Great build and really nice work with the broken wall.

Checkers Boxing Day is just great all around. Nice use of that big wedge above the doorway.

Like always, picking the winner was really hard, because my criteria is "the one I like the best". However, there's only one prize package for this round, and lots more stuff to give away, so without further delay, presenting the winner of this round...

Checkers Boxing Day!

Even though this is clearly a very impressive moc in terms of size and complexity, the thing that really sold it was the concept of a checkers board that becomes a boxing ring. That concept had me laughing for several minutes after it was posted.

As long as you stick to legal builds and actual connections that are sturdy enough to avoid at least a casual jostling, absolutely.

Duchamp basically proved that. Also modern art proved that too.

So, it can be art, but it's not Fine arts.

For it to be Fine arts, it needs to follow the classical style.

The use of charcoal, pencils, pastels, watercolors, oils, sculpting... all following rules of anatomy, perspective described by the old masters.

Abstraction came later with modernism.

So it's Visual Arts > Decorative Arts > Building Blocks Arts.

It could also be in Visual Arts > Applied Arts > Toys > Construction Toys. This is like that if you consider that toys are not made for the art itself, but to sell. Appiled arts is where Design, Architecture and other stuff falls into.

Maybe it can be considered some for of Sculpture.

I guess that the LEGO itself is Applied Arts. But if you, as an user, makes art with it, then it's Decorative Arts.

If you really think about it, it could be...

Visual Arts > Decorative Arts > Sculptures > Building Toy Blocks Arts.

Also, correct the post above... a piece of art made of LEGO doesn't fall into decorative arts, but just sculpting. So I thought about it a little bit, it would probably fall into:
Visual Arts > Sculpting > Modern Art > Building Toy Blocks Arts.

So a LEGO animation would probably fall into:
Visual Arts > Animation > Stop Motion > Building Toys Blocks

A LEGO set created by LEGO for selling would fall in
Visual Arts > Applied arts > Toys > Building Toys Blocks

While a painting from Da Vinci would fall in:

While I get your point, I don't think it's really a fair judgement against that build. Bionicle parts are essentially their own medium. Just like putting system bricks together into something good takes finesse, I'd argue the same level of care needs to go in when you work with bonkle. It's abstract and full of strange shaping that can either make or break a design, all depending on how you use the parts.

On this note though, I do think there's a limit. The massive pieces like the chest are pointless and garbage, and by extension the feet and head. The rest of the bones and shells are abstract and of enough shape variation that I feel they are fine and add depth to a model when used well.

It still gets updated every year or two, but it's closer to 2 at the moment.

Biggest problem with stud.io is it's comparatively awful at "clicking" parts together, and the UI layout is a pain. Also used ldraw library for parts, which can result in stuff like 8-sided circles because some parts haven't been updated since the late 90s.

Only bad thing about this set is a lack of minifigs.
Even if they can’t fit inside their lions they could have still made them in a style of cmf’s with stands.

i never do micro/nano scale stuff but i really like how it's a completely different style of shaping and interpreting pieces i use every day
like that bridge looks 100% believable to me, the little wands, spears and skis, the little halfplate slits look just alien non-lego specific enough to take other familiar shapes and details for granted

Yeah Lego is actually a great modeling medium in microscale, the problem solving side of it (finding the right pieces) is stimulating and you can always fix your mistakes and refine, update and expand the model infinitely.

How do you see the future of small scale car sets in the future? I'm talking next decade or so. We have Speed Champions but it's obvious that despite being detailed and realistic the car's aren't exactly "correct" dimension-wise. Seeing how much Lego pushes screen accuracy in the Star Wars line and how much SC has pushed the realism aspect of small scale set design, it's to be expected that Lego will attempt to bring car sets of the future even closer to their real life proportions.
The minifigs are the bottleneck here. Having recently built the Senna it's pretty obvious that you can't make a Lego car much lower and sleeker if you also want a driver to fit in. However SC cars are already oversized in length and heigth; arguments can be raised for and against transitioning to 8-stud wide builds exclusively, a technique that yields an evidently higher level of realism (/lg/ threads have had great examples of this).
Then again, if they decided to ditch the inclusion of minifigs completely, they'd be able to make cars the cars much more flat and realistically proportioned. Something like Tiny Turbos, but with SC level of detail.

I think they'll continue what they do today: branching paths.
You have 4wide junior, 4ish wide small city, 6 wide city, speedchamps model stuff, bigfuckhuege out of scale but nicely detailed and with many playfunctions, expert/creator type BIG set modals that are super accurate.
I'm not sure if they'll start making 6wide bases that wil keep the profile low and keep two figs staggered side by side. (something wich i go great lengths to achieve now)or maybe even 5 or 7wide bases. The problem with those is a lack of pieces in the giant repertoire of plates and bricks that are an odd number of studs that aren't 3.

These new fire snakes are super neat. I love that we get more pieces in that copper colour thanks to them and they're armour is great (and has a stud in the back).
Also the new tire "outer armor" works pretty well.
Oh and the raised parts of the "rock slopes" being printed in a lighter colour is a nice touch

good question. There's the big fire snake (that has a rattle function in its tail I think) and Kai's vehicle which both come with two soldiers and either a golden or a black leader, but both cost around 45-50€. The big destiny's bounty on wheels has them too but is even more expensive.
Personally I'll get the minifig pack that comes with one snake and probably buy some loose ones.

You're absolutely right. Sadly we both know LEGO will most likely not do another original space IP.
At best we can hope for some CS themed sets since they seem to be selling well and have that nostalgia factor.

Yeah, my first attempt took three years and several denials before it went federal and got denied there, too. This is attempt number two, after a few more years of doctors and stronger diagnoses. We'll see how it goes.

You are not going to want to hear this, but get them in hideous blue, then hit it with primer. Then hit it with black. You shouldn't do this with most pieces obviously. But its a small and insignificant piece. Look up what other people have done to paint lego, I'm sure someone out there has already matched that black.

How do people build MOCs? Do they already start out with a good image in their heads of what the finished model will be? Do they design the visible parts first and then find a way to connect them all together? I have no idea how to start.

Thats sort of like asking how people draw pictures. Some people just make it up on the fly with the pieces they have. Some start with a reference image. Some look up building strategies online and then modify them into a different setting. Its whatever works for you.

I find its more fun to just get a theme into my head and wing it. I'm not great at it but I think its fun. But if you are having trouble watch some youtube videos of people making MOCs. You can just recreate what they do but then it isn't a MOC. So just take some ideas from here and there and combine it into something you want. If it sucks then take it apart and try again. The only way to really get good at it is to do it. A lot. Just start building.

Put bricks together - obtain result. Rework parts that look bad, keep parts that look good. Rinse and repeat.

Your first builds will not look amazing, but you will gain experience. Over time as you do MOCs you will grow accustomed to certain techniques which you'll begin to rely on and use more often. The combination of those techniques will become your "style". If you look online - most of the builders have a style that can be recognized.
Take it step by step. It isn't different than any other skill - you learn it by doing it and you get better as you keep doing it.
Post results so others can enjoy your MOCs!

Look at the piece on top, it is an upside down 4x4 that slopes to 2x2 with a round 2x2 with hole tile. You can see the cut outs for studs at the top of it.

I don't think it's either of these ways, but it does look like it's connected by an axle or anti-studs.

It can't use a 2x3 with rounded edge, as said before the hole wouldn't be in the right place and more importantly there is no way to connect the lamp like in the picture using that piece

I am feeling very let down by the new Potter sets in general, even though it's great figure-wise it's also pretty headless. It seems they pre-planned sets for all 8 movies at once so stuff trickles out at a snails pace with some weird figures and figure placements. I have hopes that Werewolf Lupin is just held back for another CMF series together with a Fleur that uses a cloth skirt.

How about running a cable through the center, and bending it as needed? not lego but at least it'll be hidden from view.

I've been buying used Lego for a while now and only just had my first problem this week.
Some Boomer sold me her sons Lego saying it was in "perfect" condition then when it arrived it had bite marks and all the wrong pieces for the sets along with broken bits.

Morale of the story, 2nd hand Lego can be safe to buy most times. Just don't buy off fucking boomer grandmothers or full time mummies who want a quick fucking buck

If you bought through eBay, take it straight to the buyer protection team. They'll sort it out straight away. I once bought a guarded inn and the owner didn't post half of the set (despite listing it as complete), and then had the audacity to insist it was 100% complete

Nah i bought off a Australian buy and sell page we have here called Gumtree and pretty much cause we have proper buyer protection here and i did it through paypal im getting all my money back... should of kept a minfig as compo for having to pay the return shipping.
