Less to clean. Less to take up useable space.
I do two rows, but only for series that are 5+ volumes long. Once i finish a book, it goes to the back or a temp pile to be put into the back once i get to the back row.
Manga usually gets a pile. Series like A Song of Ice and Fire or Malazan Book of the Fallen, just get put into the back, since a single book takes a while to finish.
So when you look at my bookshelf, the first couple of volumes are visible and the rest are behind the visible ones.
And personally, i take care much for nostalgia. I only keep shit i like and will re-read. So what goes into storage? Stuff like Wheel of Time or King's Dark Tower, which i initially liked but is extremely hard to want to re-read because of how bad they got.
Books i liked as a kid I also keep, because they were good and i have lent them out to younger relatives and will give to my son later.
