I suspect the 1:6 Claude and Kubricks were squeezed out just prior to their decision to avoid more needless media crap, and were foreign market only. Believe it or not but that old saying of "there is no such thing as bad press" is 100% shit, and Thompson's Christian crusade actually didn't help them that well, because for all the extra support they got to spite Thompson, they also got as many on the man's side breathing down their necks.
