Little black girl grabs blonde Hannah Montana doll, and asks for it. Black mother grabs a black Disney Channel girl doll, and tries to sell her on getting it instead. Little girl wouldn't have it. Mother got pissed but ended up buying the Hannah Montana doll.
A few years later I saw some mom trying to swap a blonde mermaid Barbie out of the cart, for a black mermaid Barbie doll. Little black girl starts crying. Mother tried ignoring her. Little girl starts screaming "but I want the pretty mermaid doll"
I've seen this type of thing happen with little boys that want to get dolls as well. Parents start acting all awkward the moment the boy asks for the doll, and they try to push them into getting an action figure instead. One little boy wanted a Troll doll. Mother said "that's a doll", took it out of his hands, and replaced it with a plush Troll. Another little boy wanted a Star Wars Rey doll, parent took the doll away and replaced it with a Rey shampoo bottle action figure.
