The old Jakks ones looked really cool for their time. I think they still look really cool and I like their paint a whole lot. But they're not very good as poseable action figures.

I guess I have gotten sort of lucky in that department.
Most of my favorite older series have gotten quite a few figures.
Guyver, Kinikuman, Cobra, the upcoming Figma Hyakkimaru (It is the new design but it is close enough) Figma Masaru-san (Where in the hell did that come from anyway?)
I just wish we could get more Tezuka stuff, a manga Devilman/more Nagai stuff in general and maybe some Azuman Daioh Figmas and my dream lineup would be complete.

Old anime gets very little love in Japan, and that's the target market for these figures. Most otaku are focused on flavor-of-the-month shit, so that's what gets made. It's just good business. It also doesn't help that companies have been burned in the past by characters that had a huge perceived fan following, but very poor sales when they actually got made. Remember the Master Asia debacle?

The Kotobukiya are really nice, but they're statues, they recently rereleased them, so you might be able to find them on ami ami still, or at least at less reapey prices than they were. There are a lot of knock offs too, which aren't too awful. I bought legit Kuwabara and Youko, and a ko Kurama, his paint application isn't great, but otherwise a decent figure.

There's also the Bandai figures, which are also statues, about 4/5 in tall. They have Koenma, but no Kuwabara. I picked up Youko when I was in Japan in '12, they're really nice little figures.

I'd sell my soul for something nice though, like figma or revo

I've talked about this with my cousin a lot. The problem is generally twofold, the first is the age of the show, despite the popularity it had and still has in some degree it was never as popular as some others, so it's mostly forgotten aside from diehard fans, and the other one is that as far as characters go, their clothing is generally plain, very simple, not really a standout. It's mostly school uniforms and very basic gis, ergo they aren't eye grabbing, they just all look like kids. These two factors have caused the characters to fade out as far as figure collecting and merch goes

Both of the Figuarts are great.
The manga colors one is one of my favorite anime figures.
The entire Kinnikuman Figuarts line was a gem and its passing hurts me more than just about any other toyline in recent years.

Yea its really good. Watch the dub though and the first arc is a lot different to the rest of the show, the 2nd arc is probably the best tournament arc in shonen though.

It's shonen-y as fuck. I watched as a kid but never got past the Dark Tournament, and I finally rewatched it until the end. It's good, but it definitely drags at times. The main villain battles are good though.

Read the manga, the anime is actually pretty decent but it stretches out a lot. Over a 100 episodes for a 19 volume series is crazy. And the manga has this really cozy first arc before getting into the meat of it.

The fights in the anime are a thing of art really. Theyre expanded from the manga but in like all the right ways. Also while the manga art decreased in quality the anime remained consistent (actually probably got better). Not saying the manga is bad though its great.
