I have never had a problem with not losing parts. that is what boxes are for. I guess if I were a really little kid, I would have to learn to not let Lego scatter all over, and to put everyting back. but, Lego is not the only toy that is just a shitload of tiny pieces. Shopkins are literally nothing but a shitload of tiny pieces.
and, taking apart your sets does not destroy them. you can always put them back together. I learn a lot about building techniques and design philosophy by taking apart SC cars and rebuilding them.
One final point: I got back into Lego because I loved the look of the new sets. You can only build those sets if you have the parts. You can't say that you love a given set, but hate the little bits. they are the same thing. if you want to build those busy, detailed little sets, you need a shitload of tiny little pieces
