>>7600008Most "fans" don't give a shit about specific franchises and are buying these to keep MIB for future resale value. It's why they pay the price of the Pop itself for a plastic box to stick the cardboard box in. It's why their collections are indistinguishable from the store shelf they bought it from, and why every "how to collect Funko Pops" video has them shoved onto shelves in their packages.
There are such videos called that.
The irony being these things are not factory sealed so they could easily take them out, but then they would need 2X the space and they're afraid of putting a tiny crease in the box by opening it.
Gamestop has had no choice though but to convert 50% of store space to these things- game publishers are working to kill off physical copies of games, no one wants to trade games or hardware in for pennies on the dollar when they can sell it themselves on eBay for a better value, and their other collectibles are often more expensive than buying online. Pops are about the only thing they really have to sell. Every other store? They likely make money off them too. Selling 20 $10 items it much easier than selling 1 $200 item.
At least Pop collectors are still more human than gamers who hate emulation- Pop buyers need the physical item to enjoy it. Gamers don't need a physical copy of a game when the digital file suffices.
