I kinda regret skipping the gen 2 sets. They actually fix a lot of the problems I had with older bonkles

My only problem with this one is that it looks too clean. Karzahni is supposed to appear freakish with a mask that looks like it's been tacked together from different, unmatching parts.
As much flak NoahProduction's Karzahni gets, it got that part really fucking well.

They're the only Gukko Force pilots left behind in MNOG who don't have names. And there JUST SO HAPPENS to be two named Gukko pilots mentioned in MNOG2 that we never see.

How hard would it be to get Greg to canonize this? (inb4 he just says "I didn't work on either MNOG, so fuck you" even though both names were legally approved in 2003, and canonizing it wouldn't inconvenience anyone whatsoever)

You could probably make a halfway decent figure of the rat, ladybug, beetle and dragonfly.

I wouldn't really blame the designers for doing whatever anyway, it would have been way too limiting to make a bunch of original rahi with only pre-existing 2003 parts. Pretty funny how a few of them just really did not give a fuck though.

for me it's:

fits the odd techno-tribal look of 2001 perfectly
>Kopaka Mata's sword
simple and clean yet clearly futuristic
>Nokama's Hydro Blades
axe blades on a flexible string just make perfect sense as weapons for a Toa of Water
>Axonn's axe
really oversized, but it fits Axonn's huge hands and buff silhouette really well
>Zaktann's Three-Blade scissor
very unique-looking and high-tech
>Pridak's Shark Tooth Blades
really jagged and vicious-looking, perfect for the character
>Lewa Phantoka's sword
the serrated blade and lightning detail give it a lot of character compared to many rather generic blades from late G1

Some of these are bad but a lot are pretty cool. I like that a lot of them include masks on their bodies which is something that should have been kept later on. Makes the masks seem more like power sources or vital circuitry. Favorite of the bunch is the elephant.

That's what I'm thinking. I could probably string them up to some wire, make the claws more like a glove you slip your hand into, then pull on wires to make the claws open and close.
The rest of the tools would probably be done just with craft foam and PVC pipes and whatnot. Honestly this could turn out to be a legit project if I can do it for the original Mata (minus Pohatu, no idea what the hell I'd do for him since his kickers would be goofy as hell to create).

Freaking brilliant, that would be hilarious but legit to try. I could possibly make the kickers work though, but only as odd toe-caps for a foot.
I don't know if I'll build these any time soon (I'm still working on some kanohi and other props projects), but if this first round is a success, I might try to do things like the Turaga staffs or something.

Man I never liked that look. The image just left me going "That's it?"
I always imagined Karzahni to be this tall, not overly lanky but not too robust either, almost regal looking ancient ruler whose deformed and freakish details only become really visible if you go closer. But maybe my mental image of him was just influenced by Brutaka because their characters were introduced so close to each other and Karzahni too was originally described as partially gold.

Gali is good. Pohatu needs some modifications. Any of the big three (Tahu, Kopaka and Onua) is good, but Onua is my favourite. Lewa is like Pohatu, in that you need to have some minor tweaks.

Yo /boig/ It's been a while since I posted, glad to see the threads are still going, but I recently took a trip down degeneracy lane as a joke and I don't know where else I could put these so here we go.

Well it started as a joke but then I seriously started trying to capture the female form with bionicle parts and then I sorta went off the deep end with proportions. I tried to avoid doing rakshi tits but could not dodge the nuva armor.

Well you got options. Sell them in a bulk lot, replace the parts and sell them complete, donate them to a thrift store or a program for needy kids (children's hospitals might take them too), or just keep holding onto them.
I'm finishing up replacing parts for most of my collection and I'm about to sell off some, donate others, and hold onto a select group of them from there. Sometimes you just realize it's time to let go.

Overal it's been fun doing these, you do need to get over feeling like a massive pervert but after a while you're just focusing on getting the shape of the titty juuust right too much to care.

I've been into bonicels again lately and dug out my Nui Ramas, and damn they're nifty. Makes me wish I could have gotten the other Rahi too back in the day but I was a child with a meager allowance and not yet a manchild with job money.

Sorting your stuff can make one hell of a difference, I recently spent the better part of a week sorting EVERYTHING away into plastic baggies and random Tupperware I had lying around. And having it all laid out like that got me thinking, I broke up some old projects that weren't going anywhere, made some mechs and dragons with bricks, revisited my classic set revamps, bought a bunch of new star wars and jurassic park, then started working on these.

Having bought the Rahi over the last few years, the Manas are fun but really only worth it if you can get a deal on them. I paid $50 and I feel like I got a decent deal out of it. Tarakava and Muaka/Kane-ra are far better sets and definitely have stood the test of time.

I'm probably in the minority in that I prefer silver or metallic weapons. Colored weapons have always looked weird to me and it frustrated me that I couldn't use them on figures that lacked the matching colors. Silver weapons meant that I could finally use any weapon on any character without ending up with a rainbow on my hands.
Not going to lie, those silver Kopaka swords were 90% or the reson I bought pic related. I wish we got Lewa's axe and Tahu's sword in silver as well.

The most mundane explanation is the line was ending and they just plain had no plans for it by that point. Like how we didn't get an official G2 Makuta or MOUP despite all the story buildup. Although >>7597349 is on point, that model does kind of look like a re-purposed GSR design. Maybe they designed it and (falsely) thought no one would buy a grey monochrome giant mech, so they put all that tacky yellow-keetorange-gold on it and slapped on a few ugly blades.
Imagine, though, if they had released a GSR variant of it. Could have included the gold Ignika and maybe a small Red Star that can be split apart to form a booster rocket jetpack. Two eye piece variants to represent both Mata Nui and Makuta and an exclusive poster map of the Matoran Universe. Fuck, I miss when sets came with bonus posters, mini comics and other kinds of neat promo stuff.

I don't even mind the weapons, I have more problems with those pearl gold pieces that were just tacked on, so that the Ignika wouldn't be completely out of place.

This, you gotta think outside the box here cause there's little reason so far to think this thing will follow the same old rules. All we know is Faber wants to present a science fiction concept about technology and nature and something in a capsule.
It's true that elemental (or at least color coded) characters were already a Lego staple even outside Bionicle and they showed up in other Faber projects too, so it would seem weird if he just abandoned them. It would probably disappoint the fans he's trying to rally. But thus far, based on what little we know, without ever having heard a word from Lego, we shouldn't expect this project to carry the same old setups as before. Especially if Lego steps in and tells him they're not interested and that he has to distance his ideas from their IPs.

the 03 matoran shoulders are pretty wide

i found that it looks somewhat better if you move the attachment from the axle holes to the pin holes, though the arms might be slightly more restricted in articulation

I like that she looks feminine, but not overly so, perfect balance IMO
she's also not as over the top buff as some of the others, has a very fitting colour scheme (which isn't dripping with gold) and the trident + flipper combo looks great and fits a Toa of water perfectly

Should I buy Toa Mata Nui? I always wanted it back when bonkle was still alive but I could never find it in stores. I hate how it mixes yellow and keetorange though, so I'm thinking of just bricklinking the parts to make an all silver one instead and have it be the GSR.

Unfortunately the Bionicle fanbase cannot for the life of them let go. Like I get it, it sucks it was canned twice, but people need to just enjoy what we got. Faber has some great ideas and he's clearly pushing in new directions. Everyone needs to shut up about a G3 now and just see where he moves with this new idea.

Should I do it? I'm a little scared because I'm not sure if the specific combination of Silver, Grey, and black pieces I selected will look good in person. I'm not building the weapons because I think they look stupid, and I'm using all black 2 length pins and pin axles which probably inflates the price a little but I think it's worth not having blue and red dots everywhere.

He is subjective under the guise of objectivity without any substantive backing and to the point that it is annoying. The reason why later figures had blue and red pins is for making the building experience easier for kids not unlike what LEGO was beginning to introduce colored bricks in their system sets. Eljay, however, has a problem with this, seeing this as a huge con for each set that has these blue and red pins, despite the fact that the designers had little choice but to implement them, and the fact that you could just replace them with old black ones since this is LEGO. He puts his subjective aesthetic tastes at the same level as actual objective design flaws. He called the pistons on the earlier titan sets as ugly and unnecessary despite them being the only things that allowed these titan sets to stand. He picked out Solek as the worse of the Av Matoran, because off his color scheme ignoring the fact they were all mediocre as a whole. And the list goes on.

He has a disclaimer saying that he does not necessarily agree with all of these cons since "they just things he had heard over the years" even though it is quite blatant that these are his opinions which very few people share.

I like Bionicle for its potential, atmosphere in MNOG/2001-2002, and playability options offered by the sets, but oh God, the number of cringy shit in this "fandom" makes the bronies look like high culture. Most of the fan stuff on YouTube being garbage attempts at sheltered childhood humor that complete misses the mark of what made Bionicle interesting with the exception of channels like Vrahno and Peri, who focuses on building on the established atmosphere or Ben Cossy who just focuses on the building aspect.

We were proto-bronies back in the day, honestly. Self-Matoran came long before neon-colored pony OCs or most of the "the Hedgehog" palette swaps, and we put them into autistic fanfics and community comedy strips doing stupid and edgy things. Thankfully we were raised puritan enough to keep porn in its niche until much later, but I can imagine that being different today.

I'm not really sure how true that is, honestly. That's one part that frustrates and confuses me a little about some of this stuff. Unlike some stuff, like the blue half axle/pin and 3L pins, it's not like the black 2L axles were completely phased out in favor of the more brightly colored alternative. They're still producing black ones to this day, they never stopped, but with only a couple exceptions, they never snuck their way back into constraction sets. Not sure how much choice they actually have in the matter, but it does come across as really arbitrary if no mainline constraction set has any black axles for like, half a decade, and then the Green Lantern ultrabuild does (which was the set that made me realize they were still making those, back in the day). Again, can't say if it's entirely up to them, but shit like that does make it look like they could just use the more neutral alternative if they wanted, and just don't.

It's still not the end of the world, I guess. More recent stuff like making axles yellow or brown on top of already having the red and blue does feel like overkill, though.

And like >>7599257 said, it's been like that since the start, this is how the fandom cultivated itself ever since a large number of dumb kids got together through early 2000s internet culture. Like I have nothing against Eljay in specific (though I found the reviews meh for the reasons already listed), I am more annoyed by the aforementioned group of fans who desperately want to see G1 references in everything Faber releases and will more than likely turn on him once they realize his project won't be a Bionicle continuation or retelling.
Thing is, G2 failed to refresh the fan base, and most normal people have long left to focus on franchises that still exist. Which is a shame, cause I think there's many things about Bionicle that deserve wider recognition or intelligent analysis about topics that only hardcore fans would truly know about, but most of the fans who are still on board don't really dabble in that kind of content.
