1. The quality they brought to the table was phenomenal. A lot of smaller, admittedly shittier, companies could no longer cut it.
2. They drove prices way the fuck up. Due to them altering market perception, everyone else felt it was okay to charge $200+ per figure too. Plenty of people were not happy about this.
The 1/6 scene is just too fucking expensive now. I remember when I could kitbash together a figure with some cool parts without emptying my damn wallet, those days are long gone now.
