The problem with arachnids and crustaceans is that to make them accurate (and menacing) you'd need to make them with 8 limbs, which translates to really high piece counts. If Visorak had 8 legs like real spiders they would've been 20 dollar sets. Crabs are even harder to pull off without making them large sets.

I remember buying that set to complete my 2003 titans off amazon a few years ago, before I knew bricklink was a thing and that you could actually find legos for decent prices.

I think it cost like...150$ish, new in box. 'least I know better now.

I think this set was the first thing I bought with my credit card when I found someone selling an unopened one. It's how I learned how money transfers work. And I'm glad I did it cause I love the set, that function and the rare but lovely earthly colors easily make it one of my favorites.

Get a bank account, credit card and a Paypal account, link them together, and if you pay though PP, it sends money straight from your regular account. Just watch out for conversion rates if the seller you buy from uses a foreign currency, cause PP likes to screw you over if you use their own currency converter. For what it's worth, the first Bonkle book Greg wrote added some justification for why they acted like that. Gali invited Kopaka and Tahu on a quest to force them to settle their differences. And they did after a lot of bickering, but in the end Gali got mad at Tahu and that lead up to the movie.

Characterization is the same in the book, that one's probably the most faithful to its respective movie out of all the novelizations. There's a few notable changes, some minor (Kolhii match is played with two balls), some big (Takanuva doesn't die and get revived at the end), but for the most part it's the same as the movie.

Takutanuva reviving Jaller was a very situational ability.
When a mask wearing entity dies, their consciousness lingers within their Kanohi for a short amount of time and gradually fades away. The body is teleported to the Red Star and is assumed to be on standby until that consciousness transfers over and the being can be revived. Takutanuva is able to sacrifice their own life force energy and transfer it to another being - generally this ability is likely used in moderation to revitalize weakened or injured allies, but by straining the limits of this power they're able to jump-start the revival process and call Jaller's body back from the Red Star (despite the Star's internal teleportation systems being defunct) before "re-installing" that lingering consciousness.

I love Takutanuva. The torso is amazing since it fits both premade torsos of the components without sacrificing the functions. The blades on the back are silly, but cool. The legs and shoulders are bit messy, but I'll let it slide. I fucking love the weapon. It's both nifty and cool. But what the fuck is the deal with those fucking arms? Did the designer die halfway through and they just slapped something together? It's not like there's a shortage of parts, there's plenty left over.

It is though. The torso build is fucking ridiculously pointless and unfinished looking. The functions are absolutely sacrificed because Takanuva's is hard to get to and makes little sense, and body is so obscenely top heavy that Makuta's is a terrible floppy mess which makes posing the model a nightmare. As was said before, the legs and shoulders are bad and the arms are fucking awful. The staff overly large and cumbersome. Not to mention, visually it's just a messy Makuta clone - only worse, so you've taken apart your Takanuva for little reason at all.

Take off your nostalgia goggles. It's shit.

The manual combiners for the Visorak, Hordika, and Piraka are probably worse. So are Spiriah and Gaardus, of course. But that still puts Takutanuva in the low range. It's easily the worst titan combiner. Even Sentrakh is more fun to play with.

I would completely redesign Takutanuva if I actually wanted the character on my shelves at all. As is, I'd rather just keep Takanuva and Makuta built, thanks. It's not worth buying multiples just to prove a point. I've built Takutanuva several times over the years hoping that I'm mistaken, but it's a crushing disappointment every time.

Until 2002ish the Bionicle/constraction system was still more or less Technic, it hadn't been optimized to make humanoid characters and/or animals yet. Everything still looked mostly mechanical; it looked "built", sort of like how anything made from System bricks looks "built", but it still had a completely different aesthetic. The gear functions pushed it even further in that direction.

As a longtime fan of Bonkle, I have dwelt on the existence of a big box of sets in my basement for some time. Frankly, I'm not getting enjoyment out of these things any longer. I don't play with them, I don't take them out and display them.

Seems to be a recent thing in the fandom, challenging yourself to work around the Metru torso to build things it wasn't really meant for originally. One of my problems with the Metru/Hagah build is that it was out of scale with later sets, that and it lacked arm poseability. But I recently compared Iruini (as the tallest Metru build) to a Toa Inika build and he's nearly the same height. That Zaria must as tall as a Inika then.

I’ve been on a heavy Bionicle nostalgia bender for the past couple of weeks. Breaking out piles of parts, rebuilding some old sets, buying parts to build some I never got and shit like that. I got into Bionicle at the very end of 2003, so 2004 was always “my” year, mainly been focusing on that. Fucking love the Toa Metru, and Metru Nui as a whole.

I just wish they had still done the mask pack stuff back then. Currently I’m just hit with a literally insatiable desire to army build Matoran. While the 2004 Matoran build is admittedly pretty crappy, I just wish I could have more than the six assholes for the Toa to protect or the Vahki to oppress or the Morbuzakh to rape or whatever. Unfortunately none of the 2001 masks really exist in Metru Nui colors, and I don’t just feel like having only a bunch of Onu and Ko-Matoran (which even then would lack the blended silver masks, triggering my autism). Shit sucks.

It's funny how inconsistent lightning is in Lego. The first lightning themed characters were actually purple, like Energy and Spark Slizer. Then they switched to yellow but still occasionally represented lightning energy as purple. Now characters are blue (Surge and the blue Ninjago ninja) and lightning is often yellow or yellow/green.

I guess the real answer from Lego’s perspective would have been to drop the whole blind box thing as they ended up doing, but even if they were losing money on it mask packs would at least have been a boon for MOCers.

Are there any good ways of cleaning and polishing up old bionicles stuff? I've been digging up and rebuilding my old sets and a lot of parts are pretty busted up from having to live in a loose lego bin for like 20 years. Mostly just scratches and the odd bite mark.

I'm already planning on replacing some stuff that seems beyond saving but I'd rather not replace everything.

What sets TSO apart from Makuta, is that he's basically just a heartless businessman, rather than some big final villain type..
He can co-operate with other factions or even form co-exist with them peacefully if need demands (his temporary alliance with the Order, or the Kingdom universe), but the moment a chance arises, he'll stab them in the back no time.

They just wanted a fortress within Metru Nui for the notoriety. They only declared war when they were refused. It was just another business decision more than anything. TSO wanting the Vahi and Kojol's viruses to take control of the universe is a whole other thing. He's definitely evil, but that doesn't necessarily mean the Hunters are.

The funny thing that occured to me is that if you took away 90% of the Makuta's powers, they'd still be ridiculously powerful.
It would have honestly worked much better story-wise if they haven't been given the whole package and instead each Makuta was given Shapeshifting + 5 other Kraata power that varies per person. Those powers would also fit their personalities.

Well just because a Makuta has all of those powers doesn't mean they use all of them. They can only use them one at a time, so I'm sure each Makuta has their preferences like that which suit their fighting style and personality.

Solid stuff and I had been thinking the same. There would've been some overlapping but it would've been much more interesting to see each Makuta's unique power set. I'd switch Magnetism for Gravity though, since the former was more Antroz's thing. Icarax was more into gravity-crushing his opponents.

The root issue with the 42 powers aspect is that it wasn't something the story team actively wanted, but it kind of became a neccessity to explain how Teridax back in 2003 could create all those Kraata with different powers. For each Makuta to have their own powers(et) you'd have to rework the way Kraata/Rahkshi production works.

It's not like Kraata Powers other than those of the six Rahkshi sets were particularly relevant back in 2003. Story-wise, it would have been easy to introduce new Kraata with every new Makuta, just the collectible aspect of it would have been an issue.

I've done some experimenting with bigger tit builds, this is the one that looked the best, though I lack the parts to make two. Not the best shot of them big floppy hangers but it's the best I got because I already took 'em apart for parts I needed on redoing her legs lel, they're a lot sturdier and her knees have a greater range of motion now. They look a lot longer too but I swear it's only by like two studs.
Shots of that coming soon-ish.
Still have some work to do on white-blue ladybot, I am working on more reasonably sized funbags for both.

As for the other big tit builds, unfortunately Fenrak heads are not the right shape, too narrow and triangular, you want to turn that into a convincing breast you're going to cover them up with so many other parts there's barely going to be a head left, to the point where there is no advantage to using them. Gadunka has the right shape, but the curve is very subtle and you'd probably have to use two to three per tit to get a proper curve, and I only have one.

There's some CCBS sets that use it, like the Chima croc, and I'd guess some Star Wars sets probably use it, there's some rare colors in those.

One of the Ben 10 sets was also mainly sand green. But yeah, Zaktan was about it for Bionicle itself.

Looks absolutely rudonkulous I agree, but almost any art with tits hanging down to crotch does as well so...
I do agree they should be a bit lower, but that would require rebuilding the entire torso to fit them and I kinda like the design I got going on for it right now and don't want to stray too far.

What would be great is some nice smooth convex curves to properly simulate that heavy sagging look but I can't find a lot of suitable pieces that have that in my collection.

Well Greg did say that if the Makuta in Karda Nui had fought at full power the Toa Nuva would've been dead under 30 seconds. The story team basically worked themselves into a trap with those 42 powers.

Kraata (and Krana for that matter) only got powers because it gave fans a reason to buy collectable packs, but it's true they never got much of a story purpose. Teridax might've been fine with 42 powers if he had stayed as the sole Makuta, but as it's been stated many times already a whole species with those powers is ridiculous.

My ideal scenario would be that each Makuta has
>element power of Shadow (which doesn't make much sense, but it is what it is)
>Shapeshifting/mass absorbtion abilities (less of a power and more of a consequence of their biology)
>Telepathy
>3-5 Kraata powers

Cragger from Chima doesn't use sand green, that's olive green, which has never used in G1 since they invented it in 2012. The only CCBS sand green pieces that exist are the 3M shell and the small Protector foot, unless you count knockoff sets.
