Anyway to make my bitching actually on topic, I've fondled most of the mattel mass market shit and its just so bad. The Buzz didnt have wings, even if they couldnt make the cheap version have pop out wings, at least include ones you can pop on. Limited posing, had its arms in a fixed pose, etc. Bad paint apps all around on all the figures.

I mean, fuck. Do you even realize the backbreaking effort that goes on to even make the designs for the packaging? Each and every single toy in the movie is a love letter to a hyperspecific type of toy. Every single detail straight down to the smallest most insignificant texture you didn't even notice was painstakingly created to emulate the specific way light bounces off cheap plastic or the delicacy of porcelain or even the individual seams of thread running through a piece of cloth. When you put that much amount of dedication to your craft to create a figure that may only show up in the movie for less than a minute, not even a main character and most likely out of focus in the background, I think the least you can admit is that it does a darn good job at emulating the same type of toys you had as a kid and is worthy of some praise at a technical level

Figured this would be a good thread to show off my collection. Any ideas on the major, notable players I’m missing?

The biggest main character I don’t have is Mrs. Potato Head. I’ve never liked any of the ones available, but with Toy Story 4 they released a decently accurate looking one (for only $12 to boot). I’m definitely picking her up in the next few days. I also want to get the nice 13 inch Disney store Zurg which has been available for a while (mine is an older 8 inch one)

Other characters I want that are accessible are Ken and Barbie. Besides that, I feel like I have every “major” character, and I’m going to now start looking on EBay for the rare, expensive, minor characters (like Mr. Mike). The others, I’m gonna have to get custom made because no good ones are available, like Chuckles the clown, Big Baby, the hockey puck)

What do you all think?

Bandai's gotten pretty good with color separation over the last couple of years. My guess is that the emblems on the chest and arms, the pupils, the teeth, and the tops of the wings will be stickers, with molded-in lines to make painting easier should you want to do that. They included waterslide versions of the stickers in their Star Wars kits, too, so maybe they'll do the same here.

Since so many of the Toy Story toys are inaccurate to the movies, I'm planning to do just Buzz (bought him years ago), Woody, and Zurg. And if any accurate Combat Carls ever get made I'm hopping on that.

Found this Zurg at a thrift store today for $4. His left arm is a bit loose and the cape has some marks on the back but I couldn't resist. This will replace the old Zurg toy I used to have before I gave it away. It was the Mcdonalds toy for Toy story 2 if i remember right.

Just ordered this Woody with Buzz, Jessie and Bullseye, all from "Vivid Imaginations". I prefer that Toy Story 3 Jessie doll with articulations even if her hat doesn't stand but it has get way too expensive over time.

Toy story was my life as a child. 4 was definitely the worst and felt more like a glorified fan fiction. Have some collection photos. Also possess the junkyard action links set and 1 and 2 on vhs (not pictured). Wish I had a better way to display them but my hoarder ass has to leave them here atm.

Not sure about that one specifically, but this one I managed to find at an antique shop for $3. Works perfectly, very clean, and she was only missing the hat. Her head has a bit of a wobble but nothing terrible. Her arms are a little long but they’re way better than the TSC and standard ones for sure.

I actually wouldn’t recommend the Buzz from the line. Disney did a horrendous job on him. I’ve been through 2 and I’m not at all rough on toys. Within 20 minutes of taking him out of the package and replacing his batteries, his right wing stopped working with the lights. Then on the first one the foot fell off when I got him out of the package. Later on the 2nd one, the karate chop action arm sprang out of place. I literally played with them for 5 minutes, and they fell apart. The Disney Buzz is fucking garbage, and the best bet for a Buzz, is finding a used Blast off Buzz Lightyear, or a Signature collection Buzz.

The reason he looks like that is because JcPenny is currently re-selling the old Toy Story 3 Spanish buzz that the Disney store used to sell back in 2011 for a very limited time only. One of his buttons sets him off, and he starts talking in Spanish just like Buzz did in Toy Story 3 when the bad toys messed with him.

All I know is that I recently found a very used old 2010 Disney Store Buzz for $3 while thrifting, and while he had a few scuff marks and some of his stickers were missing the toy itself was still in one piece and everything worked great. My new JcPenny Spanish Buzz is still going strong too. Weird.

Seems the product description saying "2 types of stickers that can attach to the sole" was just referring to "Andy" and "Bonnie" feet, not a water transfer option. Kinda gutted since I'd be willing to paint the chest buttons and wing stripes myself, but it's not like I can replicate the badges/labels

Just got my used TSC Woody in! He had a few paint scuffs here and there on the vinyl (and the boots, i gotta take a magic eraser to those spots still). there's a bit of paint wear and a little bit of scuffing on the hair (and the painted cheeks to a lesser degree), but i'm not touching that with a 10 foot pole. I can't paint for shit haha

He came with the (hand-stitched, polyvinyl) hat, and the seller mentioned bite marks but he came with another hat so not a huge deal. I wanted to see if the hat was fixable when i got it in, but I'm pretty sure those bite marks are from a dog, and some went all the way through. So for now, Woody's gonna wear this cheaper hat

This RC is actually pretty cool for 6 inch scale stuff, it comes with an attached woody/buzz, all I had to do was unscrew the top(4 screws) and unscrew Woody. Been playing with it every now and then, prob the cheapest movie accurate option out there, even has a turbo mode. It's on sale on walmarts website right now for 11 bucks and some change, worth it imo. Might even try to mod it to go faster at some point.

If you soak the bite marks with a bowl of boiled water from a kettle, the plastic might be able to bounce back and the damage shouldn't be as obvious.

Combat Carls arrived 3 days earlier than expected, which was neat. I really like how his right hand can be detached, just like in Toy Story of Terror. Shame that there isn't that much articulation (8 points of articulation), but they're still great. Not bad for £5, including shipping.

Wonder what's going on with the Beast Kingdom Woody? These should have been released by now but they've been delayed.

The one on the left (with the grey Woody) is from this 2019 SDCC and the finished one of the right is from 2018 SDCC.

Looks like the wrists might have been re-tooled with a smaller ball joint - thankfully.

Hopefully they've made some other changes because some of the joints on that Woody did look pretty bad - like the shoulder joints. Too bad they haven't added some texture to the pants.

This is the only Toy Story toy I have. It's old, beaten, ugly, dirty and is almost 24 years old.

As a kid, if I had a bad day, I'd cry and tell Woody about it. If I was having a good day, I'd laugh and tell Woody about it. He went with me on all the family trips to Six Flags and all the camping trips I went on. He was my best friend before I had any friends and I don't think I'd ever want to change that. This doll has gotten me through my entire childhood and is my most valued toy. It might not be worth much, if anything, but I love it.
