>>7605884I used to make chainmail with 12 gauge wire, which is about coathanger thickness, and you absolutely need some kind of guide or it'll come out sloppy. I've never made stands, but try to find something solid and about the diameter of however big you want the base to be. I used steel rods, but I only needed them to be a few millimeters wide to make rings, so you might have to get creative. Use a good pair of pliers or vice-grips to straighten everything out beforehand.
