>>7622544>implying a mass market toyline can be sustained by adult collectorsAlmost everything you see in toy aisles is going to be bought by or for children. At least 90% of the market is for kids.
Collector shit is niche as fuck compared to mass market stuff. Something like 50k is a great order for collector stuff, while mass market is at least 100k, if not into the millions.
Sigma 6 failed on three fronts. The cartoon was canceled before it finished (whether it completed its run on air i forget). The 2.5" line was pretty middling, but nothing special. The main 8" line sold well initially, but stores couldn't clearance later waves even with additional discounts.
Kids simply did not want it and neither did adult collectors. TRU made a decent profit off of the 1:18 line during the Sigma 6 era.
Hasbro and stores really wanted that higher price point, same way they want the $20 6" figures over 1:18 because it's more money per case, per peg, per purchase.
I'll be surprised if Hasbro doesn't do two mainly packs again once GI Joe is relaunched in the next year or so.
Itd be cool if Hasbro followed the trend of diorama/storage boxes you see with other 1:18 companies like Toy Notch and who those Russian/Chinese figures are made by. I'd pay extra for weapons lockers, kinda like you see with those Fortnite pinatas.
