>>7632507>I'd imagine if there was a time when there was a lot of anti-G1 sentiment, it was probably just before the movies during the Unicron era. It seems to me that the late 90s through about 2006 was a nadir in Geewun interest levels. There was still interest in G1, there always was, but G1 purists were more understanding at the time. Ironically the Bay movies bought a lot of the louder G1 voices back, crying about their childhood being raped or Bay ruining things, despite the Bay movie paying a lot of lipservice to G1 and being what brought back Welker and Cullen, making Ironhide, Ratchet, and bumblebee mainstays again, bringing more budget for Classics and the MP line.
This is probably most notable to the role of Beast Wars in the franchise too. In those days, Beast Wars was just accepted as a thing, it was understood to have a huge fan following and those that didn't like it quietly acquiesced to it, no reason to fight over it. The more recent Unicorn trilogy was the more hotly contested thing. When the old G1 fans came back they jumped onto disliking Beast Wars because that was the last "new" Transformers thing they remembered before the movie, and it was another departure for G1. Not the UT is treated how BW was back then, though with less of a fan following.
